I have had weight issues since I was a teen and discovered binge eating. I battled dieting and tried most, with good, not great results. After wasting my twenties and thirties being over 200 pounds, I finally realized that I didn't want to waste my 40th decade. I didn't have any real medical issues other than sleep apnea, but I knew that it would eventually come. The heaviest I had ever become was 276 and though I was down to 261, I knew I was in jeopardy of going back up again. In the past year or so, several people at my job had the surgery and looked great. I promised myself last year that if I didn't lose more weight I would consider the lapband. I was able to lose some, but not enough and I felt myself hitting the wall again. I received a referral from one of my coworkers for Dr. Spencer Holover and went for an appointment on October 21, 2009. I then began the journey of visiting the specialist and learning about my body. I received mostly good news and had only two issues, that were easily remedied. My surgery was on December 22, 2009 and I stayed overnight at Mercy Medical Center.  I had extreme gas and some pain in the area of the band, but I was able to move about. It's been three weeks and I feel great, but I'm starting to feel  hungry again.
