    Terrified

I think I've scared myself silly. I'm doing tons of research prior to getting my band on November 1 which lead me to reading the message boards at obesityhelp.com which lead me to their memorial listing. I was saddened to learn of the passing of two young women from Toronto within the last 2 months who both died as a result of RNY surgery. I read their on-line journals and it's hearbreaking to read about their own fears similar to my own about the risks of WLS. They both seemed like such wonderful women and I can't help but question the risks of WLS. Logically I know that the lapband carries less risk than RNY and I also know that I'm probably going to die of heart attack or something by the time I'm 40 if I keep going the way I am. I have felt really confident about my decision to have surgery but now I'm starting to have fear. Does anyone have any words of advice?

    Can Liquids Stretch Your Pouch?

My doctor is more conservative and wants his patients to restrict fluids to no more than 1 cup every few hours for the first month after surgery. I personally feel that it's a little extreme but I rather err on the side of caution.:phanvan

    October 2006 Bandsters!

My realistic goal is to lose at least 20 pounds and make it into twoterville. But I'm really hoping to lose a good 30 pounds by then.

Time to Put Me to the Test!

Have a great time! I love amusement parks and can't wait to ride without the fear and anxiety (and humiliation) of not fitting on rides.

    Canada Or Mexico?

I'm canadian and am having the procedure in Canada. By the time you figure in the exchange rate and travel expenses, I think it would be more expensive to have it in Mexico. And who needs the hassle of trying to find a canadian surgeon for aftercare.
  6. What's the difference between an Inamed lapband and a Swedish band (SAGB)?

    Pre-Op Problems

You're not alone...I'm currently in the pigging-out stage. Quite frankly I'm getting disgusted with myself! I've been eating massive amounts of food for the past two weeks. Thank goodness my pre-op liquid diet starts in 2 weeks - I'm so ready to hand over control to my band.

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Has anyone started their preop diet early? I'd like to do 4 weeks (instead of 2 weeks) of liquid diet in order to lose more weight but I'm worried I'll be cheating by week 3 and sabotage my liver-shrinking diet right before surgery.

    Pills and the Band

Thanks for sharing that info! Does this only apply to pills that you swallow whole or does it also apply to pills that you crunch down?

    Road to "TWOterville"

I'd like to join the Christmas challenge. I have no idea how fast or slow my weight loss will be after surgery. I'm hoping to drop at least 10 pounds on my optifast preop diet. I know a lot of people don't lose any weight during the first few weeks after surgery so I'll set a conservative goal of 1 pound per week for myself. Please add me to your list as: Aza 317 299 My Christmas gift to myself: Membership to Twoterville!

    October 2006 Bandsters!

I'm going to pick up my Optifast for my pre-op diet next week. I don't actually start the diet until Oct. 20 though. This is going to be the first Halloween in years that I won't eat chocolate and candies!

does anyone feel the same way?

I worry about it too. Just like most of you, I've been on every diet known to man, I'm fairly successful at losing weight but I can't keep it off! I always revert back to the same old habits. I worry that after a few months of having the lapband, I'll somehow revert back to my bad habits and eat around the band.

Yikes! Don't tell me I'm all alone in November :phanvan
  17. Happy to find a forum just for us canucks! I have a really stupid question...what exactly are the "band rules" I keep reading about? Are they the rules in the lapband guide for patients?
  18. Hi all, I'm new and my surgery is scheduled for Nov. 1. My BMI is 52, I currently weigh 317 (all-time high around 336) and I'm 5'6. I'm so excited about getting this band because for the first time in a very long time, I finally have hope and I truly believe that I can lose this weight and more importantly keep it off for good!
