  1. Just curious but what reason did they give for denying you? I hope you win your appeal!
  2. My surgeon made me see his dietician. She gave me one set of rules and a post op diet. Then I had to see his bariatric coordinator- She gave me the same set of rules but a different post op diet. I'm so confused:( Then I read the thread in the Nutrition forum about stages and foods and I'm even more confused. The way I understand it is this: Week 1 Protein shakes Skim Milk Strained Soups juice coffee Tea broth Jello Week 2 Cream of Wheat oatmeal Fat Free pudding Nonfat Yogurt Lite Ice Cream Mashed Potatoes Applesauce Baby food plus everything from week 1 if I want it Then on week 3 it says to advance to regular food and it lists: Extra lean ground beef, turkey, chicken, pork, fish deli meats boiled vegetables shredded lettuce Healthy Choice meals Raw Vegetables and Fruit and Bread But then the dietician specifically told me not to eat bread or raw fruits to use canned instead. It looks like I still have lots of questions. At least I understand the pre op diet completely.
  3. Oh Angie that sounds great compared to my doc's plan:( I'm sitting here trying to figure out what all I can eat for the next month or so. It will be worth it though. This is a great thread!
  4. Mine was BMI of 40 with no co morbidities OR BMI of 35-39 with one co morbidity Either way you must use an In Network surgeon and Hospital. I was approved in 8 days.
  5. I think you should talk to someone in your human resources department. Ask them if the new plan will cover it. As long as it will cover it I wouldn't think you'd have to wait any longer.
  6. Well I had something similar. For me everything is covered 100% EXCEPT the dietician and psych consult which my insurance does not require but the surgeon does. That was $225 cash. I was given some Un Jury sample packets to try but I haven't tried them yet. I'm also wondering which powders/shakes taste best.
  7. Do you mean me? I was approved on Tuesday and given a surgery date then.
  8. I'm glad you posted this b/c the dietician told me I would NEVER eat steak again. This post gives me hope:) Steak is one of my favorite main courses and I like it medium well.
  9. Okay I got a temporary card that I was given at my pre op appt on Tuesday. So does Lap Band automatically send you a permanent one or do I have to order it?
  10. I only asked b/c I've had 5 surgeries total- 3 of them were abdominal and the only one I had pain with was my knee surgery. I'm just wondering if I might get through this without pain also.
  11. Definitely check with your doctor. It sounds like your bp is too low now.
  12. How painful was your surgery? Where was the majority of the pain at? (shoulder pain, port, incisions) How many days was it really bad before it got better?
  13. IDK b/c my paper says to make the Protein shakes with Water only. But then it goes on to say that I can have no more than 3 servings of skim milk, cottage cheese or yogurt a day. Misleading huh? Why not just put the milk in the shake?
  14. Her PCP told her it couldn't be done that way but I was thinking he was wrong. She'd totally do it if it could all be done at once.
  15. That's kind of what I was thinking. I didn't get approved until this week and last week I decided I was tired of my clothes being so tight so I ordered new ones. Had I known approval would come so quick I would have waited.
  16. What I mean is last week I ordered some new clothes b/c my others were a little too tight. They will be here today and I start my pre op diet on Monday. I'm wondering if I should keep the tags on them for now instead. I spent $200 on them but I'm not sure I will get $200 worth of wear out of them now. What do you think ?
  17. Congrats to us both:) It's such a great feeling isn't it?
  18. Do any of you know the answer to this: My MIL is considering having Lap Band but she has 2 abdominal hernias that her PCP says has to be fixed first. Can it all be done in one surgery instead of two? I plan to ask my surgeon about it just to see what he says. Thanks!
  19. My diet will be strictly Protein shakes and sugar free Jello, popsicles, cottage cheese and yogurt. My last weigh in will be August 3rd and then I have surgery August 6th.
  20. I think it's normal. I've done the Atkins diet before and I figure the pre op diet will be pretty similar. On the first 2 weeks of Atkins you would go through a lot of symptoms. But by day 4 or 5 you'd start feeling better and your appetite would actually diminish greatly. I'm expecting to feel pretty crappy but it's worth it!!
  21. My friends mom chose the band over bypass. She started at 350 and is now 170. She's done absolutely great with hers. It is frustrating but you'll get there. Good Luck!!
  22. I plan to:) I thought I'd miss food or a crave a last unhealthy meal but I don't. I'm ready to get started on my journey instead:)
  23. What I mean is this: I was approved yesterday and my BMI is right at 37. After the preop diet if my BMI goes below 35 I can't be denied right? I tried to ask the co ordinator this question yesterday and she's so flipping hard to communicate with. She immediately started scolding me about how I must follow the diet and lose 10 pounds or they won't do the surgery etc etc and she never did answer my question. Also should I worry about losing the 10 pounds? I mean will I really lose 10 pounds on a 10 day pre op diet or should I start a few days early and do a 12 or 13 day diet instead?
