I have a question about throwing up
I almost threw up yesterday. It was different. My mouth got all hot and Water and my stomach felt like something was coming up but nothing ever came. So with the band do you actually throw up? What do you do when you get a stomach virus with the band? I mean is it okay to throw up all day or will it mess up your band somehow?

Do any of you take Prozac?
I tried this and it was nasty also. Turns out they make Prozac in liquid form but my insurance won't cover it and it's $200 for a 30 day supply:( I only pay $4.00 for my capsules. I guess I'll back to Lexapro for now until I'm able to swallow good again.

WLS article in my local paper today...
When I went for my pre op appt the doc asked me if I was wanting the Band or the Gastric Sleeve. I said definitely the band. He said they offered both. Then today in my local newspaper they ran an article about a lady who received the FIRST gastric sleeve in my area just a month ago. She's doing great and the article went on to say that WLS is NOT a miracle or a quick fix and that you still have to work at diet and exercise. I was glad they pointed that out. My FIL thinks I'm crazy and I've taken an easy out here.

August 2010 anyone?
I just thought of something funny. You know how they tell us that we MUST shrink our liver or they won't do the band? I did everything I was supposed to and I lost 15 pounds so I really had nothing to worry about but I was still worried. The recovery room nurse woke me and said they are all done. I said you mean I have my band? She said yes maam and you did great. 5 minutes later I looked at her and said I know I've already asked you this but you did say my band is in their right? LOL She smiled and said she thought it was time for my family to come in b/c I was definitely waking up good. LOL

pre-op house cleaning!!! Just venting...
I feel the same way! I honestly don't know who's messiest my kids or my dh. I bought new living room furniture in September and I picked leather. The salesman was like you made a good choice leather is nice with kids b/c it repels liquid and stains... My kids aren't the ones that spill on my furniture though my DH does. Sometimes it gets very, very annoying!!

How to decide lap band or gastric?
I picked Lap Band b/c it's safer and it's completely reversible. I know a lady that had severe permanent health issues from a bypass gone bad.

Do any of you take Prozac?
I tried Effexor and it actually made my anxiety worse. I have a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that causes my anxiety and the Prozac keeps it completely in check for me.

Day 4 post op and feeling a little down today
I'm feeling the same way today. I wonder what I've done to myself. I know it will pass and I know I've made the right choice but I'm going through a lot of emotions right now and like you I've been off my anti depressant also. I really need it but the doc said I can't swallow it. Tomorrow I'm calling my PCP to ask for something else. The surgeon told me to open up my Prozac capsule and just take the powder inside. Well I tried and that was the nastiest stuff ever. I spit it everywhere and it took forever to that nasty taste out of my mouth:( I also feel like before getting banded food was an important part of my day. I spent a good bit of time eating, thinking about what to eat or cooking. Now food is just a small little side line and will be the rest of my life. I find I have a lot more time on my hands and I'm not sure what to do with it. Does that make sense?

Alright I almost threw up just now help please...
I was thinking I could take the Zyrtec at night. It really doesn't matter when I take it. Hopefully this passes soon.

Do any of you take Prozac?
I've been on 40 mg for almost a year now. I was told after surgery to open the capsule and take the powder inside. Well I tried and it was nasty. I couldn't swallow and I almost vomited and it took forever to get that foul taste out of my mouth. What now? I have depression but what's worse is I have anxiety and panic attacks and the Prozac keeps my anxiety under control. I'm calling my PCP tomorrow to see what she recommends but when I will be able to swallow my Prozac again?

I'm otherwise fine. I took the same meds yesterday with no problem. I guess today maybe I just drank too much?

Alright I almost threw up just now help please...
I was trying to take my medicines. I take Synthroid for my hypothyroid, a blood pressure pill and a Zyrtec. I have severe allergies so the Zyrtec is a must. Anyway my discharge notes say to split them all in half and take a half at a time. Well I got the first 2 halves down with 2 separate drinks then I got a third half down with another drink then when the fourth half went down I suddenly got hot. I felt really really sick to my stomach and my mouth started watering really badly. I sat down for a while and I feel a little better now but I still need to take my blood pressure medicine and I'm afraid to drink anything else right now.

Itchy incisions?
My incisions are itching like mad today. Is that normal?

Pressure in my chest?
I wasn't given a blower thing but the nurse they gave me was just banded in June. She told me that it would be normal to feel chest pain and shoulder pain and it was nothing to worry about and would go away on it's own. Last night my right shoulder was hurting so bad that I was in tears. Dh massaged it for almost 15 minutes before I finally felt some relief.

Post Op diet questions..
Okay I wondered about that. I'll wait till tomorrow to move onto full liquids.

BMI 51! & questions to those who know
Some insurance companies require a 6 month supervised diet. Mine did not require that. I first saw my surgeon the first week of June and I was banded 2 days ago. Good Luck!!

Post Op diet questions..
I should clarify. My diet is clear liquids for 48 hours and then onto full liquids. I'm guessing since I was banded on Friday then today would be the day to try the full liquids right?

Protein shopping
I've tried Bariatric Advantage, BSN, Un Jury and Syntrax nectar. The Syntrax IMO is the BEST! If you call them and ask for a sampler they will send you a single serving of all their flavors for $9.99 with shipping. It's a total of 10 or 11 flavors. The number is 1-866-333-7403

August rush 2010!!!
Hey Dee I was just banded yesterday. I think you should be able to return to work on Monday as long as you have a desk type job and not manual labor. I'm already up and going today. The only pain I had was pain from the gas they use to do the surgery with but it wasn't too bad. Congratulations!!

Post Op diet questions..
I was banded yesterday. My instructions say liquid diet for the first 7 days. It says I can have: coffee, Tea, Skim Milk, etc. But the one thing it says I can have that I'm not sure about is Tomato Soup. Would tomato soup be too acidic to eat right now?

Time lines
My first consult was the last week of May or first week of June and I was banded yesterday.
