  1. So, I went to the appointment today. It was very long, lol. I get do that pre-testing stuff all in one day. When the results come back they will send everything to the insurance. They say the will get approval from the insurance in about 3 days. They asked me when did I want to get the sugery. I really didn't think they would be asking me now. I am thinking about March or April. I have to bank some vacation time for work. I really don't know how long I will need. I think maybe more than a week? My job is phyiscally hard, so I'm thinking I might need more? I'm not sure. I can't believe I'm doing this. Ever have that thought?
  2. Thanks Catherine. You have helped a lot. I have one question. Was I supposed to go to a seminar? I think most people go to the seminar and then have an appointment with the surgeon, but I haven't gone to the seminar but I have an appointment. lol

    The waiting game...

Insurance is confusing to me. I think it's more confusing than buying a car. Buying my first car gave me a bad headache. Even though my first appointment with a surgeon is in a couple of days, I have taken the chance to start to eat healthier. So far I've lost 2 pounds. One of the members told me that she started to diet before she got the band because she thought it was silly to wait until she got the band. And this is what I'm doing. You are very young and so I am. So there is still a chance to lose weight and all is not lost if the waiting is long.
  4. This whole thread makes me sad. I'm 330 pounds, and I would LOVE to be in the 180s. However, what got me to 330 pounds was McDonalds, coke, chocolate, and candy. McDonalds is the worse. BigMacs are amazing, but have more that 1000 calories in each. I used to have 2 McChickens, 1 BigMac, 1 medium fries, and 1 large coke or iced tea all at one time. Yeaaaahhhh.... it's not fun to be a 330 twenty-two year old girl. I envy you those that are weighing in the 200s. It's my fault I got this way, so I'm paying the price - the price for my health and the price for the surgery. Good luck, and I hope you get the surgery.

    1000 calorie diet??? help me

You should probably go over this with your doctor. I would assume that you should eat healthy foods, though.

    Banding Jitters

I know how you feel. I am in the process of getting the lap band, but it still makes me nervous. I'm not worried about the surgery, but about the huge lifestyle change. I think it will be worth it in the end. :rolleyes2:
  7. Hiiii. My name is Amanda, and I'm 22 years old. I am in the process of thinking, lol. I think it just "came" to me that I need to lose weight badly. I've been told by my doctors that I need to lose weight, but it really didn't sink in until about now. lol I made an appointment with my GP for Wednesday. That's reallly all I know to do. I guess I'll talk to her about it. I really have no idea what to do, but I am slowly researching and I figure the GP is the first place I should go first. The insurance process makes me nervous. I have my parents insurance and all my father told me was that the insurance will cover 90% of it after $250. "Of it" is a little confusing since there are things that come with surgery like hospital stays and the such. I am 5'6" and 330 pounds. I never thought I would get this big. I also thought "one day I'll go on a diet." I guess I'm kind of late. I just hope I can get some support from my family. They are not very supportive, but I hope they realize that I'm a ticking time bomb that seriously needs help and support my decisions. Anyway, that's me in a nut shell.
  8. I'm in the process of trying to get the band. So, I've been looking at the trackers at the bottom of each post. Some of it seems insane. For example, one poster said she was banded on 12/24/09 and she had lost 33 pounds. It is currently 12/29/09. Can you really lose 33 pounds in 6 days? I did a double check of the date, and it seems a little weird to me... unless she was full of Water? Also, another poster had her band in for 3 months and lost 77 pounds. That averages about 26 pounds per month, and that seems more likely-ish? I know everyone is different, but can someone enlighten me about how much weight is lost? I'm mostly confused about the first example.

    Hello, new to the forum

I wouldn't call it slow. You've lost 12 pounds in two weeks. Normal weight loss for person without the lap band would be 2 pounds per week. Pat yourself on the back.
