  1. well, no death is a GREAT thing!!!!! I know there are others around here that ended up with open, hopefully they'll chime in for ya
  2. Hope is an amazing thing to have....I hate that we ever lost it!
  3. . We do greens for money, but same theory (actually I hate greens so I do spinach). Absolutely sure it doesn't work but hey, it's tradition
  4. I find this odd and it makes me uncomfortable....if there's less risk with open why are so many surgeries changing to laparoscopic these days? I can see it being easier for him, just don't understand them saying less risk. I know recovery is significantly longer with open but that's where my knowledge ends. Good luck. I hope you get done good answers to this.
  5. good for you!!!! Please know we're all here for ya and can't wait to watch you succeed.
  6. This is the first New Years I can remember where I don't feel like I failed myself the year before. It's so nice starting a fresh year feeling good about what I've accomplished and where I am. In 2014 I get to continue tweaking what is working for me and make it all even better. To those of you beginning your journey, know that sometimes it will suck and be a royal pain in the butt, but in the end will be worth it 10000x's over. To those of you further out, keep rocking it! It's never too late to take control four lives, even with a bad day, or week, we can always get up tomorrow and start fresh.
  7. Black eyed peas, greens, ham...welcome to New Years in the south! Couldn't bring myself to make cornbread only to eat 2 bites and trash the rest.
  8. Welcome!!! There's no better time for a fresh start than today. Congrats on the amazing success you've had so far, you're an inspiration.
  9. . It varies significantly from person to person, your doc will have to watch your levels to determine what works for you. I average 1000 units a day and that keeps me at a good level. Pre-RNY I took 50000 units a week to keep me at an appropriate level.
  10. . I'm closing in on a year and I'm around a cup total per meal as well (sometimes 4 bites and I'm done, it's crazy). About 1/2 protein, a couple bites of starch, the rest veggies.
  11. If you actually have the true flu they will not operate. Flu significantly increases your risk of pneumonia, surgery significantly increases your risk of pneumonia. It's not a safe combo. If you really have the flu you need to get on tamiflu ASAP and hopefully you'll be clear in a few days. Good luck!!!!
  12. I saw a patient today who is losing insurance through her husbands employer and her employer only offers catastrophic illness coverage. She has 2 major comorbidities that her insurance won't touch. Her deductible is $4000 and basically they only cover if she gets run over or has a stroke or heart attack or gets cancer. It's insane. Being middle class sucks sometimes.
  13. from someone who absolutely is not used to hearing compliments, it's totally unnerving!!! I like it!!! I like it a lot but it's still awkward and I still don't really know how to reply, I just give a self conscious laugh and say thanks and keep rolling. Don't know that I'll ever get completely used to it.
  14. You just have to suck it up and do it. There's no easy way. Make sure you're getting all the protein you're supposed to get. Keep something with you to drink all the time. If you get hungry drink something immediately (broth and hot tea worked best for my hunger pains). Savor every bite of the veggies, so many of us couldn't even have a bite! The first 4-5 days are miserable. You're exhausted, grumpy, headachy....but it does get better and in the end it is SO worth it! You can do this, trust in yourself.
  15. Welcome and congrats on being so close!!!!! It's going to be an amazing year for you!!
  16. If it's charges that were supposed to be covered by your payment then it is absolutely double dipping and wrong wrong wrong. If they're additional and legit charges I suppose it's a different story. Without more info I'm leaning towards it being a it skeevy.
  17. slow loss is still loss...it's not a race. And though it may be slow I feel fabulous! Nothing gets stuck, there's no sliming or PBing....I feel like a normal human being, not deprived or miserable. It's absolutely fabulous!
  18. i was unable to eat and barely able to sip fluids once I had a full slip....I think I'd had a slight slip for a while though....GERD like crazy and sometimes I could eat anything and other times I'd take 1 bite and be ill.
  19. . We were just south of the snow line when it came through arkansas and got the solid ice bit....that stuff was nasty!!!!!
  20. You're having sex???? Party on skinny girl!!!!! (And welcome back!)
  21. I'm in too...I think the similarities far outweigh the differences between the procedures....of course, it'll piss off some that want everything segregated but I think the value of combining outweighs the negative.
  22. Onderland is when your weight starts with a 1, so less than 200 pounds.
  23. Sure as heck better than gaining a pound every 10 days!!! Way to go!!!
  24. a size 6 and cool with it...sigh....you skinny thing!!!!! Congrats in your success:)
