  1. Katy,

I would still go to your doctor's appt and see the tech, just to make sure everything is healing properly. You can always go back and see your surgeon in a few weeks.

I have severe bruising around my belly button area. It's very tender too. Did you experience this? Or has anyone else have?

    Thanks!

    Amy

    Amy,

No, I have not had any bruising around my belly button area. The only place I had bruising was around my port area, and it is pretty much gone.

    Katy

  2. Amy,

That is nice that you actually get to see your surgeon for your two week visit. I was told that my surgeon would be on vacation this month, so I would be seeing a tech. It makes me wonder if I should just skip my two week appt. and wait for my surgeon to get back.

I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble going back to work! Yes, since you have such a physical job, you should probably stay home and let your body heal. Better safe than sorry.

Take care, and will talk with you soon.

    Katy

  3. Katy,

WOW!! 17 lbs!! That's AWESOME!! Way to go!! :smile2: I'm SO proud of you!!

I lost 3 lbs on my pre-op diet, which was high protein/low carb for 1 week and by this morning I had lost 7.2 lbs since Wed. Dec 23rd. So, I have lost a total of 10.2 lbs since Dec 17th and feel great. Can't wait to put on my work clothes and see if I can tell the difference! Yesterday, my watch was sliding down my wrist.

Katy, all I want for the New Year is a healthier life!! What a way to start, eh? We are on the right path. You are doing awesome hon!! Keep up the good work!! You are an inspiration to me!!

Please keep me posted. Hope you have a great 8th day!

    Hugs,

    Amy

    Amy,

Thanks so much for the kind words!! You have done a great job as well! 10.2 pounds is AWESOME! It sounds like you are doing well on regular foods. I am not having any problems either; I have been eating chicken, salad, eggs, and am having a chicken casserole this evening.

I did put on a pair of jeans that I wore before my pre-op diet, and I can slide them down past my hips without unbuttoning them!!! Woohoo! I am experiencing a little trouble wearing my bras, because they sit right on my incisions. Yuck. But, I put an extra bandaid over the incisions and that helps a bit.

Speaking of my incisions, I am still a little sore, but I am able to sleep on my sides and even my stomach. No issues there. Any idea when we can pull the surgery tape off of our incisions? I will probably find out next week for my two week appt.

Going back to work on Monday:sad:. I feel well enough going back to work, but have enjoyed my time off. Hope you are doing well.

    Katy

  4. Hi Girls,

I was banded on December 28th at 0730 in the morning, and gone by noon. I am so excited for this to be done. This is my second day and feeling super. NO pain pills. Little gas in shoulders, but other than that I am up moving around and feeling fine. I am enjoying my strained mushroom Soup, Protein Shakes, and Water. Tommorow is Jello, soup and water. I was able to walk right past cheeseburgers and fries tonight. Thank goodness. My husband and boys(17 and 18 are great inspirations)...take care and keep up the great works. I look forward to meeting new people on this site...

Crista, congrats on being banded just recently! It sounds like you are recovering nicely and are so enjoying your liquid diet! Don't we all! Ha! I too on my second day started experiencing a little gas, but I remembered to make sure and walk around, and that helped a lot. Keep us updated on how you are doing!

    Katy

  5. Katy,

It's been 7 days!! Whoo Hoo!! How are you doing?? I'm doing much, much better. I'm feeling a lot better. Don't know if I'm ready to return to work quite yet, though. But I am suffering from cabin fever! lol

Hope you are doing well! :)

Wow! I can't believe it has been a week already! I am so glad to hear that you are doing much better. I hear you on the cabin fever! I went out and about today buying a few groceries and such, and I didn't have any problems. I am feeling completely normal other than the soreness around the port area, but I figure it will be a little while longer before that completely heals up.

I did weigh in today to see how much I have lost, and since the day of surgery I have lost 8 pounds! Woohoo! So counting the amount I lost with the pre-op diet plus one week post op, I have lost a total of 17 pounds!! I am feeling great and on my way to a newer healthier life!

  6. I am a newbie to this so I have no idea what I am doing. But I have my 1st consultation appt today @ 3pm. I am nervouse and don't know what to expect. I have a lot of medical issues and not happy with me. I am 5'2, and weight 220lbs. I don't know what to expect at this appt.

Welcome Lucet!! I remember my first consultation appt a few months ago. Don't be nervous, they will talk to you about the lapband, and let you know if you qualify for the surgery. They will even look in to seeing if your insurance will pay for the surgery. If there is a possibility of your insurance covering your surgery, they will set up a roadmap for you that lets you know the requirements that you must fulfill before being approved. For example, seeing a nutritionist, stress test, and so forth. Good luck and let us know how it went!

  7. Now you will really hate me. LOL

My doctor said at our consult that after surgery he will want me to do clear liquids for a day or two, then regular liquids for a day or two then soft food for a couple of days. So I think I'll only be miserable for a few days.

That's crazy. You hear of so many people doing different things. I have heard of people having to do the liquid diet after surgery for four weeks. I wouldn't be able to survive. I guess it just depends on the doctor that you have.

  8. Don't hate me, but I did not have to do any preop diet.

I am however doing as much liquids as possible today and tomorrow just for my own sake.

The doctor said I have a BMI of 35 so he didn't want me losing any weight or I wouldn't qualify anymore.

So glad to have you all a week out to get me thru this and answer questions.

You are lucky not having to do the pre-op liquid diet!! I guess you'll get your share of it the two weeks after surgery.

  9. Hi Katy,

I know how you are feeling regarding the liquids. I woke up feeling very hungry today (day 5). I would love to pick up something solid to eat. I keep telling myself that it is only for a few more days and then I can move to a soft diet. We came this far, haven't we? We can do it!!

My stomach has settled down A LOT!! First of all, I stopped my Protein Shakes yesterday (until I can talk to my doctor today). I also ate only 1/3 of what I have been eating since I have been home. I had 4 oz yogurt, 2 fudgecicles, and 1/2 cup of cream of chicken Soup in 18 hours.

My doctor and nutritionist were very clear on what I could eat after surgery but they did not specify how much I could eat. So, thanks to a board member for pointing this out to me~ I had "dumping." Dumping occurs when you eat certain things or eat too much and I was definitely eating too much. As soon as I cut back on my eating yesterday, I felt much better.

I'll keep you updated on what my doctor says.

Thanks for checking in on me!! Take care and will talk later!!

    Amy

    Hey Amy,

I am glad to hear you are doing better! Yes, I have heard of the dreaded "dumping." That stinks that you have already experienced it. Yuck. I have been eating about the same amount as you have each day. I stop eating before I get full, because I am too nervous that I will accidentally eat too much. I did have some oatmeal for breakfast...I'm really not supposed to have that until next week, but I figured I could tolerate it. No problems with that. It was quite tasty.

So I felt well enough to head to Walmart with the hubby this morning. I think I bit off a little more than I could chew; I was pretty tired after about 15 minutes!! I stopped and sat down while he finished getting a few groceries. I felt like I was one of those little old men waiting on his wife to finish shopping!!

I think I'll stay home and take it easy the rest of the week.

    Katy

  10. Hey girls,

I wanted to join in on this group because I get banded on Wed and I am totally nervous but reading your experiences really helps.

Hopefully you will all continue to come back to this thread so I have some support.

    Wish me luck.

Welcome Curiousinoh! Wednesday is right around the corner. I bet you are getting excited! Are you surviving the liquid pre-op diet?

    Katy

  11. Hi Amy,

You poor thing! I am so sorry to hear that you are having this problem! I bet you have been miserable the past couple of days. Yes, it sounds like you had some kind of an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. Hopefully you will be over that sooner than later and be back to a more comfortable recovery.

My day four was a bit more challenging as well. I woke up with a severe headache that would not go away, and I figured it was due to my Constipation. I sent the hubby to the store to buy some Benefiber, and I ended up spending the rest of the day going back and forth to the bathroom. Yuck. Atleast my headache was gone.

I am starting to find myself more hungry and am getting tired of the liquids. Hopefully I can last a little longer.

Get to feeling better Amy and we will talk with you soon!

    Katy

  12. Hi Melissa,

I bet you can't wait until the 31st! I ended up having to switch surgeons due to an insurance change, but when I went to him to set up my surgery date, he had scheduled my surgery for 6 days later!!! I was concerned about having only a few days on my liquid diet, but the surgeon said I would be fine.

I was very nervous and excited just as you are, but I am so glad I did it!!

Be sure to keep us updated on what you find out.

    Katy

  13. Poor thing, I can't believe you have to go back to work on Wednesday. Be sure to take it easy on that day. Luckily I don't have to go back to work until January 4.

On my surgery day, I had to be there at 12:30 for a 2:30 surgery. I wasn't even called back for prep until 3:00!! Grrr...He was totally booked. I was wheeled back to the OR at 4:45 and was sent home by 6:45. I was surprised that they sent me home that quickly after surgery, but I was glad to be out of there anyway!

  14. Hmmm...I wonder why he won't let you eat Jello? That's weird. Today I am experiencing a little gas (stomach girgling), but nothing that is terriblly painful. I have heard about a lot of people having gas pains in their shoulders and so forth, but luckily I am not experiencing that.

I am still on my pain meds as well, and they make me very sleepy! I am almost out of pain meds, but I am comfortable enough to where I don't think that I need them anymore.

Yesterday I felt well enough to go across town to visit my family for Christmas. It was a little uncomfortable getting in and out of our tall truck (just as you said you were experiencing soreness in and out of bed.) I also had to be very careful not to slip on the ice that has been on driveways and so forth. We have had snow and ice here in Texas the past few days!!!! So cool, but so rare!

Great to hear back from you, and be sure to keep me updated on how you are doing! Talk with you soon,

    Katy

  15. This is my very first time on lap band talk and I am very excited to be here! I had my surgery last night and am doing great!! Still a little sore in the stomach area, but other than that, I am feeling pretty good. No gas pains thank goodness. Anybody else banded 12-23-09?
