    Coke drinking poll

Just something to think about....think about adding Alka-Seltzer to a balloon.....it will BLOW IT UP! Just a word of advice to the risk-takers out there....do not risk popping your little balloon for a quick fix of a carbonated beverage. If you are not very tight then you might be Ok, however, if you are tight you will hurt yourself - it's just not worth it.

    Self fills.

Ok - stop the insanity! I cannot believe anyone would even consider this. Let me tell you a my story. I had two fills the first year and lost 85 lbs...doing great. Well, finally my body decided that it was time for another fill - I went to the doc and got another fill - he added 3/4 cc so one would think that would be enough and the weight would start coming off, right? Not so, I had no restriction - even less than before the doc visit. Now, I am relatively intelligent like I am sure you all are too! Something wasn't right so I take my happy self back to the doc. He starts the process of drawing out to see how much more saline to add...well, I had lost most of the saline..he's scratching his head saying, 'didn't you say that you had almost 3 cc's?' Yes, but I told you I had no restriction the next day after my last fill and after a year and a half, I know the difference. Then I start thinking back to the fill a few weeks earlier...he had trouble finding the port even with flouro..I am positive that the poked around and knocked the tube loose or something..hard to prove but still makes logical sense to me! I say, 'well, what do we do now?' He says 'You wait and see if this fill holds then we know for sure'...ARGH!!! I know that something is not right - so I wait just to prove that there is something amiss...a couple of weeks pass - we try again and get the same results...'okay, he says, you are leaking time for a port revision'. Now, I have a surgery date scheduled so long story short - DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ON YOUR OWN NO MATTER WHAT YOUR DOC SAYS IS POSSIBLE! If a trained professional with the aid of a scope makes a mistake think what you could do...... Just something to chew on!

Possible solution for PB's and restriction pain

:embarassed: "Nodumblonnd - Slime is a graphic way of describing what happens when food gets held up. Whenever you eat, your mouth produces saliva to assist the food with passing thru your esophagus. When food gets stuck, your mucus producing tissue in your mouth secrets a thicker saliva (aka Slime) that, when swallowed, should help you swallow the food easier. Its very slippery. However, because the band is actually restricting the food flow and not just a large bite of food, swallowing this saliva just makes the situation worse. To complicate matters, you feel like you should swallow but you physically can't. It doesn't have room to go anywhere." Hi All Actually, the slime is a normal thing that your body does when you start eating. Your stomach produces the slime to protect your stomach and help the digestion process. When you have a restriction it's all about hydraulics - there is a smaller opening so you have to just pay attention when you eat - chew your food (now I sound like your Mother!) well! Once gravity kicks in the food will start to slide down if you don't panic and tighten up. Putting Fluid on top of the clog is not recommended - it only lands on top of the clog and will be the first thing out of your mouth when you burp it up. This is not projectile vomiting...just clearing the path. Hope this helps! If you think about it, it is an art to learn how to eat and not get the clog.

    A Complete Unfill ... Anyone?

Hello Ladies - I am completely deflated due to a leaking port...I have gained a few pounds and am completely miserable....just waiting to get on the schedule for a revision of my port...I had lost about 80 lbs over the last year mostly in the latter half of the year so was really excited. I had no real issues and pretty much sailed on. I had only 2 fills for 2005 so I was feeling really lucky. I went in for the 3rd fill this summer and somehow my port started leaking. It took the doc 3 visits to confirm this was the issue - I am thinking that he was a little too rough and must have loosened the tubes...anyone experience this?

    LA Weight Loss and Insurance

I had to give a life history of dieting...but they didn't ask for detail records.... I think this is fairly standard when insurance is looking for any way not to pay...stupid really when you think of the money they will be saving over the course of your life in other health related co-pays!!!

How will I keep my secret in this situation?

LOL - you ain't kidding....who would complain about that?!!! Really - I am with Tired...you might consider another past-time...I wouldn't lie - if anything just tell the truth - you are taking care of yourself and eating more healthy....at some point, people are going to notice and then the rumors will fly - they will know you had surgery - and probably think that you had the bypass...like Oprah, right?! :girl_hug:
  15. Hello Dr. Adam Smith did my surgery...we have a support group that meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday (in Ft Worth) at 6pm. He pays for the facilitator who is a registered psychologist - her name is Marcie. I think he covers your fills for the 1st year... Dr. Smith is banded as well - most of his office staff has been banded so they know the real deal. You can contact his office at 817.850.1100. You can google him to get more information. Please check him out!
