  1. I found the hunger was really getting to me. So, I went off the "diet" and started eating regular (healthy though). I was doing fine until this past weekend when we had to travel. I gained 3 pounds back. Haven't changed my ticker but suppose I should. My first fill is tomorrow at 5 weeks post op. My doc feels once your healed to fill the band quickly. Every fill is 2 weeks apart until you hit that "sweet spot". So, that's where I'm at. Just checking in and saw that many of us are suffering again. It will soon be over and we'll be losing that weight again. Have a good day everyone!!!

    I sure hope you're right!

  2. Well I hate to say it but I am glad I am not the only one who is still in bandster hell. I am 5 weeks post op and there is NO RESTRICTION - hunger and craving is at an all time high and to boot I am not motivated to exercise. The weather is cold and I can't sleep well (apnea), so I am tired. I am hoping that the weight loss (whenever it decides to show up) will eliminate the apnea, then I will have more energy, then I can exercise. I would just like to get moving on this new life of mine . . .GRRRRRRR

BTW my first fill (I am hoping) will be February 2nd.

  3. Does anyone know why we can't have milk? Even if it is skim? I like doing half milk half Water with the Protein powder to get some calcium... Thoughts?

    Hey Moe

I was told there is a possibility you may not tolerate milk after being banded, I was never told that we could NOT have it at all. I happen to be lactose intolerant so I dont drink milk. I use soy milk for my Protein Shakes and its awesome, I buy the light which taste really go to me. It is a very good substitute if you dont drink milk or you are not allowed.

    Best of Luck to you!

  4. First day home from the hospital, and I am so sore! Ouch! Started sipping liquids this morning. Going to take Vitamins and meds in a few. How long does the pain last?

    Hi Lisa:

Congratulations! The pain will be gone before you know it. The first day home is the worst and I think us late thirty and forty somethings are a bit slower at recovering. Im post op 9 days and although I am pain free, I am still pretty fatigued. Hang in there the recovery is actually pretty fast!:)

  5. Yay, I'm not the only starving Bandster! I was banded on 12/14, made it through the liquids and mushies fine. I finally started solids, and I find that I am SO hungry! I have even gained back 2 lbs that I lost, though I wonder if that has anything to do with not eating any "real" food for a few weeks after the surgery. I'm really trying not to eat a lot even though I don't feel any restriction. Why don't they fill your band right away? I'm not having my first fill until 1/23, and I feel like I may gain all my weight back by then! Feeling slightly discouraged with this...

Don't be discouraged, I know how you feel, I was hungry coming out of surgery and confused! We have to remember that this is a time for healing that is the PRIORITY, once our bodies heal and everything sets as it should then we can begin the real journey. We don't want to mess that up right now by being discouraged or moving ahead to soon before our bodies are ready.

Like Grandma used to say "this too shall pass"

  6. I started mushies today and I am so excited. I made some chicken in the blender. I also blended some peas and added Unjury unflavored Protein Powder to the blend, you can't even taste it! I had about 2 oz chicken, 2 oz peas for dinner which rendered about 19 g Protien. I'm drinking Natures Best Isopure throughout the day. I'm totally nervous as I'm going back to work in an hour! Here goes nothing!!!

We were banded the same day - I can't start mushies for another week. So jealous (but happy for you ), I did call my doctor's office today to make sure and they confirmed it! Oh well, I am doing okay, not too much hunger, I bought some Carnations instant Breakfast and it is really good, I put all natural Peanut Butter in it with soy milk and extra Protein powder. Anyway I hope it goes well for you!

  7. Why is ibuprofen a no no. I take Volteran and it has iduprofen in it or something like that. My doc said it was okay to take. Just curious.

They did tell me that ibuprofen (advil, motrin) cause's bleeding and it may not be good. Plus I heard that because of the irritation it causes to the stomach, if it sits in the pouch it could cause stomach ulcers. I did hear that the liquid is ok.

  8. I have been like that since the day after surgery. But I have held on to my diet and been good. The weight is coming off slowly. Maybe you can get a fill tomorrow. Hope all goes well for you.

me too, I feel some restriction but I think the hunger is back (I call them cravings) and liquids are going down way too easy!

  9. Okay so here I am Day 7 of my journey. Not so bad, but still pretty tired and sluggish. I went out and did some light shopping on Christmas Eve and then enjoyed Christmas Day with family. I cheated a tiny bit ( I knew I would) nothing earth shattering. Im talking a tiny tiny bit (like the size of a small piece of lint) of red velvet cake on Christmas Day. I really don't think I was hungry, just craving, which I think pretty much goes away with a thick Protein Shake.

I am curious to see how I get through an additional week of full liquids. I still have sore tenderness at the port area, my stitches are itchy (I guess healing), still a little gassy, I am belching better but it hurts in the morning. I don't take the pain meds during the day and Tylenol does nothing for me. I took some ibuprofen for a few days and it made me feel like a different person, but I hear it's a no no:sad: So each day I wait to see what I can tolerate then see what my options are.

I am just taking it easy, I have another week off from work  so I will strategize then!

The support here is helpful and encouraging, it helps me understand things.

Maybe a little light cleaning today:glare:?? Maybe

  10. This is the best thread I have read yet regarding eating and the post op diet. I was banded 12-21-09 and I feel a little hungry not much it's mostly cravings, but I am fighting my way through as well. I am on full liquid at this point per docs orders and there are things like, sugar free pudding, creamy grits with added Protein powder and you can put almost anything fat and sugar free in blender and puree, it's the consistency and the calories that matter. I have been real creative in my eating so I can stay healthy right now, I mean Christmas day was so freakin hard, there were short ribs, roasted chicken, cabbage, red velvet cake plus I baked two sweet potato pies - Shoot! The liquid diet just freakin sucks but it is a small price to pay for a HUGE reward!

Thanks to all you guys who contributed to this thread - YOU ROCk. Oh and by the way I did throw a small spoon full of rice, cabbage and chicken in the blender with my broth and unjury Protein unflavored and had a delicious Christmas dinner **wink**.

Enjoy the rest of the Holidays Everyone!

  11. Day 3 of being banded and each day gets easier. It hurts when I belch and take deep breaths which I am trying to do often. The other pains are subsiding slowly and I am only on Tylenol so I know it's getting easier. Yesterday it was hard to drink, but today I think I will do much better, Isopure is my best friend right now. Tomorrow I can start shakes so we'll se e how that goes - I really just want to go shopping! :-)~

  12. I only met with Dr. Geiss once, but have met with and spoken with his staff on numerous occasions. I would imagine he does sound rehearsed since he has performed thousands of these surgeries. Everyone has their own preference on what makes them feel comfortable. I feel comfortable knowing this man can do this surgery with his eyes clothes. He is an expert at it and is known within the Long Island medical network as one of the best. Every consult I received from medical professionals felt confident in his work. As for his staff - they will fast track your pre-surgical requirements nearly hassle free. They know what they are doing, it would be safe to say you are in good hands.

I will keep you posted on post surgery interactions.

Well I am now off to bed all ready for tomorrow! Good night and thanks for the well wishes!

  13. you will be fine - fear does nothing for you, although it is natural to have some anxiety but try not to let it overwhelm you. There is nothing more you can do at this point but just wait, keep visualizing yourself in your skinny jeans a year from now, or one month from now your health beginning to get better! Fear is is but a distraction...

  14. Hi all, I have my surgery next Monday and I have some questions. Where can I buy the Isopure? Also, I've read some reviews on benefiber Protein powder, and I'm not sure if I want to buy it, it only offers 6 g Protein. Does an unflavored whey protein powder mix in hot foods as well as it does with milk and Water? I'd like to add it to my mushy foods when I get to that point and I don't think vanilla and chocolate will go over so well with potatoes or blended chicken  Help please!!!!!!

    HI AE09:

MY SURGERY IS TOMORROW TOO!!! I AM STAYIN ON THIS SITE ALL DAY FOR SUPPORT!! LOL! Not sure where you are but I bought Isopure at Rite Aide in the section where they sell Ensure. OMG Best wishes to you! How do you feel???

  15. Im a newbie, I decided I would join for support. I came to my decision to be banded after suffering over a year of consistent hypertension and a new discovery of sleep apnea! I am tired all the time and lack the energy to do the things I want. In any case I am scheduled to be banded December 21st (Merry Christmas to me) and the pre-op diet sucks! smoothies, broth, supplement Water and juice!! If anyone has a yummy filling suggestion I would greatly appreciate it!

Best wishes to you all out there and Happy Holidays!

Thank you all for your support...

Plain it turns out I began my pre-op too early, my BMI/current weight did not call for me to be on a strict pre-op, so I was able to enjoy some Soups and few Protein bars along with the liquids and only ONE WEEK! Thank God!

Michelle Dr. Geiss will be doing my surgery at 7am tomorrow! You will be very happy with the people in that office, they are experts at fast tracking your pre-op process. Stay on top of your primary physician to send them the info they need and you should be fine, if you are in need of good specialists everyone I saw was great, I will be more than happy to give you some numbers. Best Wishes!

AJ I am happy to know that you are doing okay? Did you or do you ever feel hungry? How hard is the liquid sippy diet those first few days? I am reading a lot of peoples post op experiences and they are so different I don't know what to expect...

Everyone thanks for your support I am goin in with a strong and positive heart! Happy Holidays!:thumbup::thumbup:
