Don't know what it feels like to be "normal" sized & scared!
Same here. I just seemed to have skipped passed the single digit sizes:tongue2: I, too, get nervous at times (and my husband really nervous as he is plus sized) wondering how a smaller me is going to change things. As with any change, their is a grief period--your mourn what you are losing. You will get pass this feeling as you begin to Celebrate more of what your gaining by losing. This website is great--it helps everyone to hang in there. You are doing the right thing. (I just pep-talked myself lol)

liquid diet
Yes! Although I can't do too much celebrating:sad: It is fully expected when I go for the pre-op visit, that I would have lost weight on December 28th!

liquid diet
I had the choice of doing the surgery December 3, 10, or 17. That would put me doing my pre-op diet during Thanksgiving or if the 17th recovering and on liquids still on Christmas or pre-op dieting. I worried about cheating, but moreso, I knew I would be out-of-town Thanksgiving and felt that trying to complete a diet away from home might be difficult. As bad as I wanted to have the surgery in December (really bad), I had to do what would ensure success. In this manner, I start my pre-op right after Christmas when I am already off work.

Advice with giving up soda?
I was a Mountain Dew addict (that stuff is liquid crack/cocaine )--so I had to find something equally good-tasting. For me it was sugar-free Kool-aid. I also will drink iced tea with sweetner to give me a caffeine boost. When I just had those bad withdrawals, I would buy one of those 5hr energy drinks and take some aspirin. It does get better!

What about sugar-free syrups? Alot of these recipes only use whey Protein mix, water and sugar-free syrups. http://www.lap-band-surgery-site.com/protein-shake-recipes.html

I choose to live.
Good for you for taking the steps for you!!!!My husband had to come around too--the only difference is he is obese is well, but because he is 6'5" his weight is not as taxing on the body, in fact, he looks smaller than me. He is even going to try the pre-op diet now. I found with him, it was his own personal insercurity--thinking I will leave him for some skinny dude! lol Thank you to this site because I has given me the confidence about what I am doing. What I share now with non-obese nay-sayers who say just loose the weight is obesity is a medical condition that leads to death--how many severely or terminally ill patients do you say just treat yourself and do not seek medical treatment for your condition? None, in fact, you try to get the best medical care possible. The LapBand is treatment for a disease that can help you, other bandsters, and myself finally win the war!

Another xcited & scared newbie
I know what you are feeling. My surgery is January 14, 2010 and one day I am confident and excited--then I almost ready to change my mind the next. I remember that I am doing this surgery for me--I have abused my body long enough. You will be fine--there is a lot of support here!

Confussed about process
I was referred by regular doctor to the surgeon's seminar--at the end of the seminar, you filled out a form to have them contact insurance to see if they covered the surgery--I then filled out a weight history to see if I was a candidate--then I was accepted as a lap-band patient. After my first appointment I was assigned a patient rep who basically contacts your insurance to make sure everything gets approved and paid for--I met with her on the first visit. My surgeon set up my other appointments (sleep apnea, psych eval). After my last appointment, I was approved a week later!

starting BMI over 50? come on in!
Thanks for the encouragement! Since my decision to have the surgery--I have dropped about 30lbs--EXERCISE is the key. I am big champion of "The Firm" workout tapes--results after 10 workouts--they really work by incorporating cardio and weights--love it!! I try to do five times a week--just finished--kicked my butt after a 2 week hiatus! lol

starting BMI over 50? come on in!
I am glad I found this group. My surgery is January 14, 2010. My biggest worryhad been that my BMI was so high that I might not be successful as I am hoping to loose over 150 pounds--I see that is a very reachable goal. My doctor mentioned it my BMI, but did not say I was not at candidate for banding, but said clearly that I needed to change my relationship with food or a lap-band or gastric bypass will not matter. This site has been very helpful!!

- Any January 2010 Bandsters????
January 14 is my big day too!!!!- Hello from South Carolina
Hi, I am new and will be banded on January 14, 2010. I am excited! It is hard to believe it has been six months already. I start my pre-op diet on Dec. 31--my pre-op appointments are Dec 28 and Dec 30th (dietician). I love my doctor as he has had the lap-band surgery himself--he understands personally the struggle with weight. I love the site already as a lot of my questions have been answered. Be blessed with your surgery!!! - Any January 2010 Bandsters????
