  1. Hello Ladies! My four month anniversary is the 23rd of March and as of this morning I am down 62 lbs. This has been such a learning process. I have met so many wonderful people from this website it has been incredible. I wouldn't trade my band for anything. I currently have 6cc's in my 10cc band. I am self pay and see my doctor monthly and will for the first year (abuse him were his words...I think he was even more upset than I was that the insurance didn't pay).

I hope everyone has an awesome day!!

  2. Yolly I am 4 months out and have had no problems. I have lost 62 lbs so far. I would love to help you as well. You can contact me at dsmith16@tampabay.rr.com I do agree that it was hard to figure out what the signs were at first what "full" felt like but then there were different indicators that really worked for me...hiccups (main one for me)..portion control (how much did I really need to satisfy my hunger and last me until the next meal (and what foods was I eating).

  3. Hi everyone..I was banded on 11/23/9 as of this morning I was down 63 lbs (15 lbs of that was pre-op) although my tickler isn't updated. For dinner I kind of eat whatever..we do family meals however since I have been banded those meals have been a lot more healthier. My mom keeps bringing pizza on her night to cook (my parents live with us) and I keep trying to remind her pizza isn't all that great for me so we kind of argue over that so I eat a couple bites of it and a salad..so i don't deprive myself of anything that might cause a craving but for Breakfast and lunch I am very good and very strict. I also cannot live without an afternoon snack. My exercise is walking and chasing a 2 year old.

Also, just FYI for anyone who might have noticed that Yoplait just came out with Greek yogurt...if you try Chobani..you cannot switch to Yoplait, I actually had to throw it out. Chobani is awesome!!!

  4. I started out after surgery saying this is not a diet this is a lifestyle change. I obeyed all of the rules..liquids to mushies and so forth but when I was able to move on to regular foods I ate and still do everything I want. I have a 10cc band and have had 2 fills for a total of 5 ccs. I do have restriction but I also get hungry sometimes. My indicator is I get the hiccups when I am full. I also watch my portions to a point..I just can't eat that much..so no weighing or measuring. I do make sure I get a minimum of 60 grams of Protein in a day. I am not a huge Breakfast eater and I am at work by 6am in the morning so I do have a Protein Shake for breakfast..other than that no one would know that I am "watching" what I eat besides I eat very slowly, I do not drink with my meals and I do not eat much (compared to them). I have a family of 6..we all eat the same meal..I don't cook differently for me. I was afraid that if I "dieted" now that when I reached goal and changed the way I ate..I would gain my weight back. My dr knows my "plan" and thinks I am doing the right thing and he is very restrictive. I do not eat sweets. I did give up coffee..I only had one cup a day..my taste buds changed and I don't like it any more. I drink SF hot chocolate instead. Fast Food..I will eat Wendy's chili but I prefer homemade chili. This is what works for me..

  5. Outside--from what I am learning from my insurance company..it is best that you do have the doctor's office file the claim. As I have mentioned before I am self pay also trying to see if they will reimburse me for anything. So far thier (the ins co) biggest complaint is "why wouldn't the Dr file his own claim?" Also, the Dr, the hosp and the anes all three gave me three different claims...so I don't think I would have gotten them all to file thier own. I have my fingers crossed..no rejection yet but I am not expecting anything either.

  6. Hi Megg! I am also from Florida..Tampa area! I was banded in November 09. This was the best decision I have ever made. I would love to go thru this with you! I am not a pro like Sandi...but I am have been very successful so far. I have had to learn some things the hard way but the key word is learn! You can contact me directly at michele.bardo@gd-ots.com I would love to hear from you! Let's get that nay sayer out of your head so that you can get a healthy mind set and prepare for surgery!!!

  7. Hello! I would love to be a friend and help you along! I am in the Seminole area. I was banded 11/23/9 and have lost 50 lbs as of this morning (my tickler is not updated). My husband and my parents are supportive. At first my parents not so much but now they can see how little problems I have I had and how great I have done. I still have about 75 lbs to go. I do attend a support group that is associated with Morton Plant Hospital as well as I am on this sight all the time. You can email me at either of my email addresses michele.bardo@gd-ots.com or dsmith16@tampabay.rr.com Another thing you will find is that a lot of people think that being banded is the easy way out..if they only knew!! It is the best thing I have ever done and it is not easy!!

I saw in a blog that I was reading that someones NUT suggested that they fill thier glass full of ice and when it melts then they can drink it. This would help them break the habit of having to have something to drink with thier meal and you will have an ice cold glass of Water to drink. I thought it was a good idea. I just take don't make a drink for me..but I do think of one..but then by the time I have cleared the table and washed the dishes I have forgot about the drink.

  9. I ended up fighting Blue Cross for 2 1/2 years for the surgery...lost and self paid for the surgery. 15K is well worth my life! You can always submit you claim afterwards and they can reconsider reimbursing you...they have reimbursed me on some of my labs so far and are considering some of the others I have submitted so far!! You never know! My surgeon told me that one client got all of his bills reimbursed except the surgeons..so as the others have said..our lives are worth it!!

  10. For me all is great! I am loving the band! I had my first fill on 12/21 and scheduled for the 2nd fill on 1/25. I haven't had any problems to date. I read the blogs daily for words of encouragement and use the following website for some awesome recipes... I just type in high Protein, low carb and look thru the ones that sound good to me. So far I only found one that it just took too long for me to fool with but the others...awesome!!! It has the complete breakdown of items. It is pretty cool.

  11. Well I was banded on the 23rd..the first couple of days were a little rough with pain but nothing else...no gas, no nausea or anything else. I am already able to sleep on my stomach which is a huge relief!! I am on liquids for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks pureed and finally 2 weeks of solids food. As others have mentioned I am so happy I have found this website/blogs. I believe that we all can help one another!!

  12. I am scheduled to be banded tomorrow the 23rd at 11am. As with a lot of you, I just can't get enough information. So many different feelings going thru me...nervous, anxious, excited.

My insurance also denied me, so I am self paying..what a huge motivator for me to stay on track!!

I have been on strickly protien shakes for the last 2 weeks and will continue for 2 weeks after the surgery!

PS: for the gentleman heading to Tijauna...I think you will be fine! You will be in my prayers! I am also in the Tampa Bay area.
