My name is Ashley, and I am 17 years old. My mother and I had attend a lapband seminar inwhich we decided to do for my weight problems. I have struggled with my weight since I was just a couple months old. Having tried the adkins diet, no carb diet, high protein diets, lots of grain diets(list goes on and on...) with no luck, I didn't think ANYTHING would work. So this summer I worked at preparing mysellf for the Lap Band. Along with the seminar workers, my doctor, and my mother, I managed to lose 20 pounds(which was required before surgery) along with the mental and nutritional evaluation. Last thing to do was have the surgery and work towards my new lifestyle. However,  I never made it to the surgery part. I feel the people my mother and I chose to go through screwed us ver royaly. I had been probly about the happiest I have felt in forever; Finnaly a silution! No more asthma problems trying to keep up with my friends who are all overly active. No more feeling embarrased at sleep overs about my unnormal breathing due to sleep apnea. First, they had lost all my paperwork a week before I was due for surgery, and having to redue ALL my paperwork held the surgery back two weeks. Finnaly, for real this time! But no, they called two days before the next surgery, they said they had made a mistake  and found out, after all this time, my insurance dosen't cover them. My insurance covered the doctor himself, just not the middle man seminar people. However, after finding out I couldn't do the surgery, it had became another kind of diet which had progress in the begining, and slowly faded into a faluire. After a month or two of thinking, and the high increase of Lap Bands adds on the media, I decided I will give it another try. I just have no clue how to go about find a doctor who will work with minors. Also, my mother no longer trusts the Lap Band because of the situation we had which costed, and costed, and we never recived the thing we worked for. I just want to find more information about the Lap Band outcomes, if situations like mine end up being common, and how I would even go about finding a doctor that is close to me, so I can have my happy ending I dreamed about all summer.
