    Pain after eating?

I had it, i had all sorts of niggling pains that i was not expecting. All of these little bits and pieces go away in the end. I'm pretty sure its gas. Whatever it is, i think its just your body recovering from the surgery and the changes. I was sooooo stressed at first and thought it would never go away. It all did!! Just ride it out.

    Romance?

Haha, my partner was wondering the same thing and was too scared to touch me. I think you'll know when you are up to it. It took me about 2 weeks to recover from the surgery which i think is a long time compared to most. Then you just have to deal with the port pain for a few more weeks. Id say 3 weeks and i was in good condition again. Everyones different though and i think you'll know when you are feeling up to it.

    One more thing done!

Congratulations and all the best. I am not 6 months post op, half way to goal and happier than ever. It's a tough road but well worth it!

A little when my band got too tight (have since had an unfill).. but NOPE, you should notice a dramatic improvement. I have not had that hot lava feeling since and im GLAD to see it gone. GOOD LUCK!!!

    Fills?

It's really nothing but a slightly annoying injection that lasts for about 3 or 4 seconds. Don't stress!! The more relaxed you are the easier it is.
  6. I know exactly how you feel. Its a never ending battle.. this isn't the easy way out and that's the first thing you need to accept or it simply wont work. I had 5 fill and wasnt feeling restricted until the last.. i have since had some Fluid taken out because i was spitting up almost everything i ate. I find that it doesn't actually make you feel like you MUST stop eating.. more like you can stop eating. Sometimes i have to tell myself to stop and then i realise hours later that I havnt thought about food at all. It doesn't do all the work and i had to learn that the hard way. You must be in charge of how much you eat and then enjoy not being DESPERATE for food like you used to be. Eat larger meals of good nutritios low calorie food while you are getting closer to restriction. This weight loss thing has been significantly slower than i had hoped. But be grateful when you maintain your weight.. remember when you would gain weight every day??
  7. Hi there, My BMI is 35 and EVERYONE told me I was crazy for doing this and that its only for HUGE people. The thing is, i have been obese since i was in grade 3 and i have been fighting it for 10 years. The reason my BMI is low is because I have been dieting for half my life, if i wasnt id be 45. DONT listen to anyone. We are doing this so that we dont have to be BMI 45 and likely to have a heart attack and i bet a lot of people on this forum would say they would have done it earlier. I struggled the first week out of surgery, dont know if it had anything to do with my weight but it was a shit week. OH well, 3 weeks later i feel fantastic and 99% back to normal. Be prepared that after surgery sux but it gets better and all worthwhile. My appetite is back and although i lost 10kgs in the first 4 weeks (2 weeks pre op and 2 weeks post op) i am eating almost as much as i used to so i expect the weightloss to slow dramatically. Im getting a fill next friday but have heard it takes a few fills to get it right. You are smaller and so probably can expect to lose heaps of weight as fast as the bigger people but hang in there, you are more likely to get to goal. I havnt even started yet and already happy i made this decision!!
  8. Hi, I am 16 days post op and feeling a whole bunch better than i did a week ago. It's true that you really start to feel better everyday!! I started mushies yesterday and it is unexpectedly painful to eat. About 30 seconds after i swallow i feel a niggling pain in my tummy and then about 15 mins of sharp pains in my shoulder. I am not sure if there is something wrong or if it is just a part of healing. The pain is bearable so if its normal, then i wont be concerned. If this sounds like something is wrong or if you can offer me any information or experiences i would really really appreciate any help i can get. Thanks to anyone who helps, :w00t:
  9. I have been wondering about the very same pain. Today is day 16 for me and i am considerably better than i was a week ago. HOWEVER, i have been getting unexpected pain. That burning/tearing pain in the left abdominal is really annoying!! I havent been too worried about it because I was expecting some unexpected things and have heard about port pain. Mine is getting better. Good to know that it can take 4 weeks though, it means i have plenty of time to heal. I cant promise you thats it's ok, but i can tell you that you are definitely not alone!! Good Luck!!!
  10. I had my op the same day as you, and my symptoms are not quite as bad as yours but worse than so many other members of this forum. I would say all the pain and comfort issues and nausea i am experiencing are related to the gas and internal trapped wind. I am feeling better today but like hell the last few days and wishing i could turn back the clock and not do it. I stopped taking the prescription meds and stuck to over the counter paracetemol, i cant imagine morphine 4 times a day is good for an empty stomach. I am also trying to increase my Water intake (as hard as it is) and taking de gas tablets which are helping to reduce the bloating and discomfort. OBVIOUSLY the best thing is to speak to your surgeon or the clinic before changing meds but thats just what i have done and its helping :-) GOOD LUCK, they all tell us that in a few weeks we will feel back to normal.. I CAN"T WAIT!!
  11. Thanks everyone. I havn't been able to get GasX strips, i dont know if they are available in australia. I am taking DeGas tabs and they are helping.. il try the different positions to release gas.. i expect that it will give me a little port pain but thats not a big deal :-) I must say that i am feeling MUCH MUCH better today and encouraged to hear that it will get better over the next week. I am very much looking forward to the the two week mark, mushies and a lot less pain :-) Not long now!!
  12. I have been out of hosptal for three days and carefully following the surgeons liquid only instructions. I have a little pain but it is quite bareable and not such a big deal. Its the nausea that is driving me crazy and making me feel like i cant be myself. It comes and goes and i am taking the anti nausea meds but they dont seem to be stopping me from feeling ill. I cant burp and so am full of gas and feeling terrible, wish i could make that go away. If anyone has some suggestions or some words of comfort i would really appreciate any help at all. I know i made the right decision but its hard to focus on the future when i feel so ill.
  13. I can't believe all of you are burping so much. I havn't been able to burp since surgery and in place of burping i do very very painful hicough things that shoot pain through my shoudlers. I WISH I WAS ONE OF YOU!!! The trapped wind pain is horrible and ongoing for me, its the cause of all pain and nausea... Funny how some of us burp so much and the rest can't burp at all. It really is a different procedure for each person :-)
  14. Michelle I was banded a week ago and wrote a couple of questions like this myself. I was terrified about eating and being hungry. ESPECIALLY because my pre op diet was the 600cal Optifast diet and that was the hardest diet i have ever done (and like everyone else, i have done them all). I have been on fluids only for a week now post op and its WAY WAY WAY easier than i had ever dreamed. Firstly, you wont feel hungry much of the time and mostly uninterested in food (i know a first for all of us) and when you do need some nutrition you most likely wont want any food. I enjoy Soups in the food processor that are made into a thin liquid, custard and banana flavoured milk. Ask your surgeon if its ok to introduce some other liquids, it's really about digestion and not so much about the calories in the first few weeks. If i could chose today between a steak and a smoothie, i would DEFINITELY go with the smoothie, i have no interest in steak :-) It hasnt been easy and none of us expect this to be a walk in the park BUT, it will be well worth it. GOOD LUCK, let us know how you go!!
  15. Thanks Jachut, Contrary to what my profile may say (because it didnt give me many options) i am in Oz too, Melbourne in fact. Your words are very encouraging and brught a smile to my very weiry face with less than a week until my op. I am really worried about the first few weeks after op, concerned that i wont be able to function as normal for weeks because i wont be eating and il be recovering etc. Just started my DREAM JOB and not wanting to be useless for a month so im quite nervous at the moment. I am hoping mushies start after a week... how long before you could eat mushies?
  16. I havn't heard back from my doctor yet and I still dont know what diet i will be on post op. I am being banded next Thursday the 19th Nov, very excited and very nervous... not about the op, more about the healing and dieting for the first 6 weeks after. I was hoping some of you could share the various diets you were given and help me to prepare. All advice and information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks ALL
  17. Hi there, I am 3 days in to my pre op diet, op is on Nov 19th. I am soooo hungry and every thought of food, sight of food, smell of food.. EVERYTHING is difficult to deal with. Its making me wonder if, after the band is fitted, i will be missing food and longing for food or feeling sad about the food i can no longer eat? I will not change my mind, i just want to be prepared.
