I'm already practicing and it's not too bad.

I don't have my band yet, but I still quit drinking soda(except when I'm sick) about a year ago.
What is the reason you can't drink soda?

Becky, I get up an hour earlier each day (at 5:00, instead of 6:00) and I WALK. I can walk about 4 miles in an hour but you can start out slower and build up speed with time. It's good exercise! There are books you can read about walking off pounds. I'm supporting a family of three and after a layoff a year and a half ago, I'm doing it on 12,000 less per year. Needless to day, there isn't a gym membership in my future either!I've discovered that on those days that I can't get out an walk, I miss it....a lot, actually. Who knew? LOL
Do you walk in your neighborhood or did you find a trail at a local park?
Would it be the same as using a Gazelle or treadmill for the same amount of time?

So with the New Health Care Reform passed through the House. Who is for or against it?? Why or why not?I am not in favor. My opinion (whether it's right or wrong) is why should we pay for the people who are too lazy to get a job just so they can have health insurance? Now it's different if they are disabled and unable to work. But these people who won't get off their butts to get a job shouldn't get subsidized health care that we, tax payers, are paying for!
I am fortunate to have very good health insurance paid 100% by my company.
That being said, it's not just the people who are out of work that can't afford good health insurance. Not all companies provide as well as mine and others do. It doesn't always have to do with "people sitting on their butts".
Most of your small business owners don't have insurance and I'd bet my bottom dollar that they're not sitting on their butts.

This is the doctor I've chosen.
He seems like he really knows what he's talking about and speaks to his patients like they are real people.
He says that obesity is a disease and should be treated as such.
After my seminar, for the first time, I actually felt like I had hope.
Has anyone else had experience with Dr. Gorjala?

i think it has to do with your weight. the more you weigh the more your feet have to carry, so there for your feet can get wider they dont grow longer just wider. im not a doctor or anything but that is what i think.karen
I agree. It's actually very logical.
Your feet are at the bottom of your body and they carry the burden of your weight. It's only reasonable to assume that your feet will be more squooshed the heavier you are and then when you lose the weight, they burden is a lot less.
I thought about that when I noticed how much tighter my sneakers were and how much heavier my steps were.

I have United Healthcare too.
I went to my primary care physician on 10/3/09 and was approved in less than two weeks.
I was very surprised that it was so fast and I didn't have to jump through any hoops for the approval.

Thanks for the welcome!
My doctor is Dr. Srinivasa K Gorjala and he operates out of Southern Regional Hospital in Clayton County.
I chose him because he's close enough that I won't have to miss a whole days work when I go in for fills and he came highly recommended by several nurses I know that work in the same hospital.
And Maggie, the weather is amazing here today!

Hey everybody!
I got my insurance approval about two weeks ago and now I'm doing all of my pretests.
I wasn't sure I'd be covered because I fall in the 36 BMI group.
Since I have some medical issues related to being overweight, my doctor was able to get me approved and I am just so excited!
So far, I've been to the seminar, had a mammogram, and done one sleep study. I have to go to another sleep study next week and try it with the cpap.
I have my psychiatric evaluation and meeting with the dietitian both scheduled.
I guess I still need to go to some support meeting too.
Anyway, I'm Paigey and I just wanted to introduce myself.
I welcome any and all advice!
Stoked in Georgia!

I was really surprised at how fast I got the approval too.
I worried that my primary care physician wouldn't even give me the referral because he's very overweight himself.
Instead of downing me for wanting this procedure, he actually understood and said he'd help me as much as he could.
Within a week, I had my referral and all my pretests scheduled.
I also had no idea that I'd find a surgeon on my side of town(Stockbridge), but when I searched for a seminar to attend, he was the only one that popped up!
I've been very lucky!
