    Greek Yogurt

I tried a little cup that had honey in the bottom and you just stirred it up. I was thinking it might be more tolerable for me if I didn't eat it for a sweet fix and more along the lines as a dip or salad dressing if I mixed in some spices or powdered ranch dressing.

    Alcohol with band?

One of the reasons my doctor told me not to drink alcohol is because it will hit our system quicker. He said I'd get drunk before I realized it, then most likely start vomiting and that's exactly what you don't need to do. When I pushed the point, he did say that a glass of wine every so often would not hurt. Beer was definitely a no-no just because of the carbination.

    Just getting started!!

Good luck! There are quite a few of us from GA on here at the moment and I believe one of the other ladies will be using Dr. Duncan also.

    Friendly Sabotage

I don't have my band yet, but I'm on my two week liquid diet, so I can empathize a little bit. The other night, my daughter texted me from Publix, "Mom! Publix has the 20 piece hot wings on sale for just $6.99!" I texted her back, "I just had to suck on a little tiny bite of pizza and you want to tease me with wings?"

Made to feel guilty by Family Doctor?

I was really worried that my GP might not be supportive or give me the referral that I needed because he is really heavy too. He ended up being very understanding and while he'd never referred a patient for Lap Band before, he was right there with me every step of the way and did everything he needed to do to make sure I had all of my tests and medical records necessary to satisfy my insurance. I'm hoping he will see such great results from me going through the procedure that he'll consider it for himself.

    Greek Yogurt

What makes the Chobani different from other greek yogurts? Every single time I have tried greek yogurt, it turned my mouth inside out and I hated it.
  7. Here is what I found on docshop.com Many people are interested in knowing which celebrities have undergone which bariatric surgery procedures. Here’s DocShop’s breakdown Gastric Bypass Surgery Today, many types of gastric bypass surgeries, like the popular roux-en-y procedure, involve the combination of surgically bypassing a section of the intestines with the creation of a pouch (essentially, a smaller stomach). This type of bariatric surgery is associated with faster weight loss, but can be more expensive and harder to reverse than a gastric banding procedure. Celebrities who have had traditional gastric bypass weight loss surgery include : Star Jones (TV personality) Carnie Wilson (singer in Wilson Phillips, TV personality) Al Roker (weatherman on Today Show, author) John Popper (lead singer of Blues Traveler, songwriter) Michael Genadry (actor) The Fobi Pouch method is a variation of the roux-en-y gastric bypass procedure, which uses a band to divide the stomach, creating a smaller pouch. Celebrities who underwent the Fobi Pouch method of gastric bypass surgery include : Randy Jackson (American Idol judge, musician, record producer) Roseanne Barr (actress, comedienne) Etta James (singer) Jo Marie Payton (actress) Jennifer Holliday (singer, actress) LAP-BAND® System Surgery Unlike gastric bypass surgery, the LAP-BAND® System does not reroute the intestines. Instead, a silicone band is used to create a small pouch at the top of the stomach. Although not as popular in the United States as gastric bypass surgery, LAP-BAND® System surgery is typically less expensive and is both adjustable and reversible. Celebrities who have had LAP-BAND® surgery include : Sharon Osbourne (TV personality, music manager/promoter, wife of Ozzy Osbourne) Ann Wilson (lead singer of the rock band Heart) Khaliah Ali (fashion designer, author, daughter of Muhammad Ali) Joe Gannascoli (actor) Brian Dennehy (actor) Anne Diamond (British TV personality) Mikey Robbins (Australian media personality)
  8. I'm pretty sure that pro golfer John Daly had Lapband surgery.

    Emory Lapbanders?

I'm not going to Emory either, but I'm here if you need to talk. I've only got another week and I thought I'd be a lot more nervous than I am.
  10. I've told everybody in my life. Mainly because I'm just so excited, but also because I really don't care if they support me or not. This is me, this is what I want and I don't need anyone else to validate what I'm doing for my own health and vanity.
  11. That's one of my worries too. I know my ticker says that I've lost 8 lbs, but that's 8 lbs from my heaviest a couple of months ago. Since I've been on my pre-op diet for a week now, I've only lost two lbs. I too see where everyone else has lost a lot more during the liquid diet phase and it's very discouraging when you can barely lose 2 lbs. I've been weighing myself on a freight scale here at work, and today, I just don't even want to go out there.

    Surgery date - 9/28/10

Good luck! We have the same surgery date :smile:
  13. I'm going to try to go this last week without cheating. I know it will make the surgery safer and it's definitely encouraging to see others doing it too.
  14. Are there two September threads? My surgery date is September 28th and I'm on day six on my liquid diet. It's really hard and I'm soooo hungry. I've cheated a few times and had a small bowl of soup, but otherwise, I'm really sticking with it.

    Stoked in Georgia!

I will definitely continue with the support meetings. Not only do I think they're beneficial, my surgeon's office requires their patients to attend at least 8 of them during the year after surgery.
  16. Hey everybody! I got my insurance approval about two weeks ago and now I'm doing all of my pretests. I wasn't sure I'd be covered because I fall in the 36 BMI group. Since I have some medical issues related to being overweight, my doctor was able to get me approved and I am just so excited! So far, I've been to the seminar, had a mammogram, and done one sleep study. I have to go to another sleep study next week and try it with the cpap. I have my psychiatric evaluation and meeting with the dietitian both scheduled. I guess I still need to go to some support meeting too. Anyway, I'm Paigey and I just wanted to introduce myself. I welcome any and all advice!

    Stoked in Georgia!

That's great! Isn't it exciting? Will you have to do a 2 week liquid diet too?
  18. I'm in GA too, but my fee is only $150.
  19. I'm using CIB until the Unjury I ordered arrives and I got that way by the third day and had to eat some soup. Since then, I make sure I don't let myself get so empty. I am also allowed to eat cottage cheese and yogurt a couple of times a day and that really helps too. The cottage cheese with a little salt and pepper really breaks things up when you get sick of all the sweet shakes too.
  20. My surgeon's office gave me two different diets to choose from and one is the CIB. It's 5 shakes made with 2% milk each day, plus juice, cottage cheese, gatorade, yogurt, and sugarfree jello/pudding cups in between. Example: Breakfast: 8 oz shake and 4 oz juice(not mixed together and I wait about 30 minutes before I drink the juice) 10:00: AM 8 oz shake and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese Lunch: 8 oz shake and 6 oz cup of yogurt 3:00 PM:8 oz shake and 8 oz gatorade Dinner: 8 oz shake Once a day I can have 1/2 cup of broth and all day I can have Crystal/Wyler's Light, sugar free Jello, coffee or tea with splenda and Water. Honestly, I haven't been drinking as many shakes as I should and I got really weak and nauseated yesterday and ended up having to cheat at lunch. I only ate a cup of won ton Soup, but I felt really guilty. I'm only doing the CIB until the unjury that I ordered arrives and then I'll stay with that one.
  21. I'm on day three now and I am starving too. I think I am going to cheat this afternoon and have some won ton soup for my lunch. I just don't see how you guys are doing this for the whole two weeks. I already feel kind of weak. I'm still running a low grade fever, but I am hoping to kick it by this weekend.
  22. I went for my pre-op today. I weighed 224.5. I really thought it would be a little more than that, so I was relieved. Right now, I'm scheduled for 2:15 PM on the 28th, but they said they were trying to work me in earlier and to be prepared to arrive around 10:00 AM. My only concern was that I had a fever of a little over a hundred degrees when I first got there, but I had them take it again before I left and it was back to normal. She said if the blood tests showed an infection of some kind, I might have to put the surgery off. Has this happened to any of you?

    Stoked in Georgia!

Thank you all for the well wishes! I went for my pre-op visit today and it all seemed to go well. The only thing that got me a little worried was that I had a fever a little over a hundred. I don't feel sick though and it was pretty hot outside today.

    Stoked in Georgia!

Hey neighbor! Good luck on your journey too! I began this process almost a year ago when I went to my seminar on 9/19/2009. I can't believe it's finally going to happen for me. It's like I'm walking around in daze because I'm so excited and happy that I'll finally get the help and accountability that I desperately need.
