How many calories per day in the first few months?
@Djmohr Thank you! That's awesome news! I really can't stand having to use the shaker and the potential for the clumps. I've had the Premier Protein and it's delicious! I think I'll give that a go for a while since it seems to work for so many people! Also thanks about the heads up for the calories. I think I'm just going to chill out and not worry about it and just follow what my NUT said. It's working, obviously, but I just was worrying myself about it so I am just going to step back and take a deep breath and keep on keeping on Great job at getting to goal! I can't WAIT!!! :) PS: I JUST remembered that today is officially my one monthaversary! Down 32lbs since surgery date! Ridiculous!!!

How many calories per day in the first few months?
@Cervidae : My doc said that the Premiere Protein shakes were good but that we should only count them for half the protein as is listed on the nutritional information, because it was something about the fact that they (and things like Muscle Milk) are concentrate, and bypass patients won't be able to break it down as well. Otherwise those are wonderful! @James Marusek : my NUT did give me volume recommendations 2-4 tbsp for this first month, but didn't give any calorie recommendations. Maybe it's just not that important in this phase? Thanks for those recipes!

How many calories per day in the first few months?
Okay that makes me feel a bit better. What protein shakes do you recommend? I usually use Unjury or Syntrax and they are about 100calories per scoop. And thank you!

How many calories per day in the first few months?
I need some advice from some bariatric veterans out there...I am almost 4 weeks out and worry that I'm already doing this wrong. I've been following my NUT's instructions, and am on the soft food stage (scrambled eggs, purees, tuna, yogurt, etc). She told me to continue doing the Protein shakes (60-80g daily) and incorporate two or three 2-4 tbsp meals in addition to this. She did not mention the amount of calories I should be getting daily. Well. I worry because it's already about 400 with the Protein Shakes (sometimes more if I use almond or skim milk), and then adding the small meals per day I am nearing 700 calories daily, and a lot of things I've read and heard is to try and stay between 300-600 calories per day. And this is at the very minimum amount of food, so I worry I'm already messing up! So my question is, what calorie range should I be within at this point, and how do people get all their protein without going over? (Some of the meals I make are 1 scrambled egg, salsa and cheese with a tiny bit of avocado mushed in / tuna and hardboiled egg with mustard and paprika / oikos triple zero greek yogurt / tilapia and mushed cauliflower) What sort of daily meals do you guys do? ***ALSO, as it gets further down the road, say 6 months+, how many tablespoons or ounces of food would you say you eat in a meal? I'm just hoping to get a frame of reference THANKS!!

Strange back pain post op out of nowhere
I get this too! In my lower back. I feel like it might have something to do with losing muscle? I feel a lot less strong, especially in that part of my back. I also get muscle soreness now even when I haven't exercised much. Like today my thighs feel like yesterday was leg day, and it's even hard to squat down to tie my shoes!

Can't feed the food addition... Now what?
Thanks for all the good feedback, guys!! It's a new day and I feel immeasurably better! I think this is just going to be a struggle and I have to think of ways to break the "head hunger"! And yes, once I'm on regular foods again it will probably be a lot better! Honestly I'm just craving a beautiful delicious strawberry right now!

Can't feed the food addition... Now what?
So I'm 3 weeks out from GBP RNY and I'm physically feeling great. I can get all my liquids and Proteins no problem, I'm incorporating the pureed foods in just fine. I'm getting a lot of walking in, have even tried a little tennis (although I don't know if I'm quite ready for that yet). But overall I feel physically good. The problem is my fat girl brain. I'm just starting to realize what people mean when they say they miss their addiction... In a way I've lost my only coping mechanism and my best friend: food. I'm feeling a little depressed and almost don't even want to bother with making pureed meals because "why bother?" I can only have a few tablespoons, and food even tastes bad now. And I'm never hungry. And for whatever reason, I just can't get myself to feel better. My smart brain knows this to be nonsensical. But my fat girl brain misses that feeling of satisfaction, of feeding the addiction, and for the first time ever I don't have the ability to shut her up with delicious ice cream or mac & cheese. This is so not me. I'm positive and happy and generally just have my head screwed on straight. That's all. Random rant. I probably just need more exercise and to be patient.

Isopure ready-made protein drinks
You can also go to stores like the Vitamin Shoppe and just buy a bottle to try them before you buy a case! They are different, but a good change from the thicker Protein shakes, if you're looking for a good fruit option

I'm paranoid because I'm doing so well, if that makes sense. :/
Thanks for all the feedback, guys!! I was so worried, so it's nice to see that it's not just me! [emoji4]

I'm paranoid because I'm doing so well, if that makes sense. :/
Okay bear with me... I had GBP RNY one week ago. I've been doing great, feeling great, recovering great. Even with liquids, it was hard at first but now pretty easy to make goal. Today my doc put me onto phase 2, puréed. I was beyond ecstatic and went home to make a recipe I had seen online, a baked ricotta and marinara mush thing. My doc had warned me to take it slow with puréed and that it would take a while for my pouch to adjust. She said to start with 2 tbsp this week, advance to 3 the next and then do 4 max for the remainder. Well with this first puréed deliciousness, it was like absolutely no problem to do 2 tbsp, and I curiously even tried to see if adding another would make a difference and I was easily able to do the 3rd! Is this normal??? I'm worried that my pouch is already too loose, it's a deep paranoia that maybe it isn't as small as other people's, it's weird. But I'm only one week out and I don't think I should be able to physically fit that much in, let alone for it to not feel uncomfortable :/ For those of you who aren't noobs, how much were you able to eat during the puréed phase? Am I beating myself up? It's weird to be complaining because something is too easy, but it's creeping a deep paranoia into my dumb little brain, and I just want to make sure everything is okay. Since it's SO okay, you know?

8 days post op
I don't know if that's dumping syndrome or not, but if you don't mind me oversharing, I'll tell you that I'm 7 days out and did have diarrhea-ish poo for a few days, which was my first poo since the surgery. I felt like it had more to do with all the gas that was coming through and my body just adjusting to the new system. Today and yesterday, I'm happy to report, I'm having much more "normal" poos But honestly, I don't know if that's the same thing you're dealing with. I just thought I'd share in case it helped! (Plus it's fun to say "poo" )

How long to return back to work post RNY
I agree with Orlando. A lot of people recommend to take several weeks, but I work an office job that is semi-flexible with things like walking around and stuff, and I'm already back this week after having RNY last Tuesday. You will feel tired and probably have trouble staying focused, but for me I just didn't have the option to take that much time off work, and I feel great! Good luck!

I like my weight loss like I like my Netflix... dramatic ;)
Wowowow! I am feeling wonderful! I've been home for 5 days, had my surgery 7 days ago, and I've already lost almost 15lbs! I just felt like sharing... I'm feeling pretty amazing, to be honest! I didn't have a perfect surgery. I had spleen bleeding, doc had to "shave" my liver for fat, and I had a hernia that I didn't even know about, so she fixed that too! I am beyond shocked that the pain only lasted a few days, and now I'm just managing being a bit tired, and making sure to get all my liquids and protein! (Sunday was the first day I could do this!) To all of you who are pre-op and were nervous, like me, BREATHE EASY! It gets better!! The first few days are pretty brutal, in full honesty, but life is what you make of it and those days pass and then it's all uphill from there!! ... now if only I could figure out a way to stop craving "real food" like chicken and Beans and veggies and stuff! Oh I cannot WAIT until pureed phase, when I can move from my all sweet Protein shake and liquids diet! <3 <3

Calling all March bypass surgery dates!
I also had RNY on the 15th! Was released on the 16th and though foggy and sleepy, felt MUCH better than day 1! I was also not prepared for the pain! Now, having been home 2 days, I'm already feeling like my old self! I have enough energy to run errands, and have been walking around a lot! But I'm definitely slow and get the gas pains, but now the incision sites don't hurt as much! I had a lot of extra pain, I'm told, because I had a hernia that needed repair, my doctor "shaved" (I think that's the term?) my liver for fat, and I had some bleeding in the spleen, so really it was more my liver and/or spleen that was hurting the most. But now I'm up and going and it's much better! I agree with Linda about the head hunger... Though I wouldn't say it's hunger, because physically I can't imagine eating anything right now, but I made my family dinner tonight and OH my god it smelled infinitely better than my protein shakes!! can't wait until puréed phase! [emoji4]

OMG OMG OMG I got approved today AND set my date!
Thanks guys! Back home as of yesterday and feel great! More sore than expected, since I also had a hernia that I didn't know about. But I'm up and about today, it's all good!

Two days!
I'm getting the butterflies now! Two days until my gastric bypass and in having difficult focusing on anything else! I'm a little worried about the magnesium citrate I have to take tomorrow. Has anyone had half a bottle in the morning? What should I expect? Wow! It's getting real!!

How do you dwal with head hunger?
I've got my surgery coming up and this is one of the main worries I have, too! My plan is to try and find some other thing that satisfies that "thing", that addiction / feeling that you "need" something to cure boredom, the blues, etc. I haven't figured it out yet, but maybe exercise or reading a book or getting a pedicure or buying a nice new outfit? I'm curious what people who've gone through the surgery have to share on this, too!

One Week! Advice?

One Week! Advice?
You guys! I'm one week away from having surgery! (GBP RNY) I feel like I've had months to prepare, I've read every forum post, I've scoured every Pinterest board, I've read every detail about Protein, macros, etc in preparation, but now that I'm 7 DAYS AWAY (OMG!) I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! Does anyone have any advice? What should I stock in my house for the week back? What have you all found that was helpful for transitioning back to work? What did you bring to the hospital? I feel like I've been studying for months but now that it's so close, my mind is going blank! HELP!!! Also OMG I'M SO EXCITED!!!! :) :)
