  1. Hi Everyone I am from Melbourne and am starting a support group. Sometimes you can feel alone not knowing many or any other people that have had weight loss surgery, and there are always so many questions that we have and support that we need. Sometimes it helps just to talk to someone that can relate to you I would love to hear from others in Melbourne, Victoria that are interested in this support group. Hope to hear from you soon Leanne

Hi Guys how is everyone going?? Haven't been on for ages as I have had a not so great year in the health department and wasn't coping too well so have let everything slide for a while. Nothing to do with the Sleeve all is going well with that. How is everyone going???? So many posts to catch up on when I get time

Hi guys and welcome to you @@Kogo Great to hear from you Hey @@VSGmary great to hear your from Melbourne too How are you finding the sleeve? I was sleeved in Feb 2014 so been done just over a year and loving mine....I have hit a wall trying to budge under the 90kg but am hoping the gym will get things moving for me (after the initial muscle weight gain) I am down 50kg's so far and 60kg's since the beginning so I am very happy with my progress @@Bellarose stalls just happen and it won't last long.....probably just Fluid @@Kogo you have been through the hardest part......won't be long till your back on normal foods and feeling like your old self again...only lighter Who was your surgeon??

Well done ladies on your weight loss Sounds like you are both doing really well All ok here although havent weighed in for a while....think I will later in the week My Dr warned me that I will put on weight on the scales when I start gym so I am leaving it for a while till I get back on It's a lot of fun though Have just been doing classes so far and I am mostly enjoying them.....wow I needed this though haha Very unfit

half a kilo in 3 days isn't slow....that's a massive amount to lose Can I ask what you are hoping to lose each week? What has your surgeon told you that you will lose? Yeah bloating and swelling happens its been major surgery with most of your stomach cut off. I got swelling for many months after the surgery...but I do swell easily. You are going well and have lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time so be kind to yourself. I had my 12 month check up yesterday and all went really well. He said he thinks I will lose about another 15 to 20 and the rest will come off with a body lift so I am really happy with hearing that. Have about another 20kg to lose until I am at my goal weight so have started back at gym. Did body balance yesterday...thats yoga, ti chi, Pilates etc all combined and I am feeling it today.....was fun though.

I thought my specialist was conservative.....wow 4 weeks of Fluid is a long time but your over half way there now so you can do it easy!!!! Skinny cows the best lol When do you start puree or do you go straight onto solid foods??
  8. steveelea

    Australia - Melbourne

Are you allowed puree yet?? I cant remember exact times and stages for foods but I think I was on puree in week 2 which was great. I made everything from spag bol to lamb stew and just made it like baby food. I even did the cheese sauce on top of the spag bol and it was yummo Anything and everything I put into the blender and just portioned it up and froze tiny amounts of it to eat at later stages. Also baby food jars are handy with fruits and custards etc....but from memory it had to be like the 4months baby food stage puree and a little runny I think week three was thicker puree and mash (or was mash week 4??) When I got to mash my nurse gave me some great ideas as well as what was in the cook book we were given. I used to cook a crumbed fish fillet and eat the inside of it with some mayo mixed through. the outside of the fish is too hard but the inside is mushy and it was so good....Loved that idea oh and tuna with mayo too Its hard because we all get told different times to start different foods. I will look up my book when I can find it Did you get a book on what foods to cook and at what stages?? I don't want to tell you something different to your surgeon. Also some ice cream and icy poles are nice too (you can get skinny cow ice cream which is diet ice cream and yummy too)

Ok Miss @Bellarose...why are you weighing every day?? 300g could be a pee or a poo lol Don't make the mistake of weighing everyday and becoming obsessed with the scales as it will mess with your mind Try weighing 2 times a week if you can't bear to weigh only 1 time but seriously you will not be gaining weight. It's not even been 3 weeks yet and you may fluctuate like @@nerms said and that is completely normal, and you will have a lot of swelling too Please don't get down about 300 grams. Problem with weighing in all the time is that you will notice little things and become disheartened. I know I have done it. This is a long term thing not a short term thing so just relax and let it come off as it will. At the start it will come off fast and your body will need time to catch up at times too. Please don't get down on yourself as you are doing really well. You have lost almost 10kg's already.....you should be so very proud of that. Remember we retain Fluid and especially in the heat!

@@nerms mostly I am using the desktop but I think I will try my mobile and see if it works better. You look a lot different in that second photo......I always say don't get hung up on the scales, go by how you feel and how your clothes fit as it's usually a better indication. I will go 1 or 2 weeks and no change on the scale but all of a sudden my clothes are too big and I start getting compliments....then a while later it will show on the scale. I don't even weigh in every week now. So over it I went to the gp the other day for my B shot and I am 92 on her scales....would love to be in the 80's but am not too stressed about it...it will happen soon enough I guess @@Bellarose100 Glad to hear that all is going well and there was no infection You sound like you are recovering fast which is Fantastic!!! This "friend" I was telling you about rang me again to brag about herself for almost an hour the other day.....remember how I said she was mostly having the Optifast shakes to try to lose weight super fast.....I warned her that 8 months out is too long to be doing just the shakes and she should maybe try to eat properly.....anyway she has been eating normally for a few weeks and guess what....gaining weight. Goes to show you can try hard to diet but diet's are only fads and only last for a limited amount of time. Making lifestyle choices is a much better option......and better long term. Another thing that surprises me is that she can eat a full entree size when out. That OR almost half a main meal which consisted of a whole lamb shank and some mash potatoes...I still cant eat that much so for her that is concerning that she can eat that amount in a sitting only 8 months out after having been on mostly shakes. Another concerning thing is that she is now having Breakfast lunch and dinner with shakes in between.....not sure it's supposed to work like that as a shake is a meal supplement....oh well I can't tell her as she doesn't like to hear what I have to say....she knows best. Also makes me wonder if different surgeons make the size of the stomach different in each patient?? Glad to hear your both going so well

Ok it wont let me edit my posts or like any posts either so not sure what else to try Anyway again till i came back in didnt see your post from last night Bella Definitely need to get that check out if there is puss. I miss food still too but it's not all that often. As for the small amounts you will be able to eat more as time goes on so don't worry about the tiny amounts as you have just had major abdo surgery and most of your stomach cut off so it's your body's way of healing and adjusting. Almost a year on and I can eat 1 cup full at most meals now....a bread and butter plate almost full...about 3/4's, definitely not piled up though and a standard bread and butter plate not a big one or an entree size

Hey @@nerms sorry to hear it's not going well....three years wow that's a long time. Has he changed since you had the band done?? I know it can be threatening for some peoples partners when they start losing weight

    Australia - Melbourne

Hey Bella not long to go now just 1 more sleep. As Chez said you are best to stay in as long as they say as they know what to look for to make sure you are recovering 100% Is hubby wanting you home because he is missing you? Yeah it gets quiet on here. Usually when people get sleeved or banded they start losing heaps of weight and we don't always hear a lot from them anymore which is great that all is going well but it's also great for everyone to keep the support going.....a lot of people tend to be on here more before they have the op and just after....not so much longer term. It's a good sign that its working well for people though Have you eaten yet?? Hows that going. It's so good to shower and get into your own clothes isn't it I was in for 4 days got out 1 day earlier than planned but I was happy to stay in as long as they needed to make sure all was ok...it's just a long stay but as Chez said it's been pretty major surgery so it should be a long stay. I had so many more ops with the band and I had 3 c sections with my kids so by the time I had my sleeve done I was just like yep I can do this and lapped up being weighted on for a change haha

Hope all goes well today and I am sure all will be fine.....this stage isn't about losing its about making sure that the detox helps to make the things around the stomach more normal sized so they can get to it easily enough through lapriscope The low/no car helps to shrink things to get them out of the way in surgery....which is why this part is so important as they don't like to have to do open surgery Less than a week now...exciting times ahead
