  1. Welcome! This is a great place to be.

I had to do a 6 month weight loss plan, with monthly PCP visits.

    Three support group meetings.

    Two nutritionist meetings.

    Blood work.

    sleep study.

    Psychological evaluation.

I recommend really taking the pre-surgery time seriously. Practice the techniques - talk and read as much as you can - soul search....all of it. Embrace the time before your surgery - it is part of the journey.

    Good Luck to you!

  2. Oh - I am sorry to hear this. Try not to be discouraged....this was nothing you could have helped and they caught it before it became a really big issue. Your journey is just a little different than the norm...but that will make the ending even better!

    Take care.

  3. I agree that is a lot going on. Honesty with yourself and your healthcare providers is essential.

As far as getting bored with what you eat - I would get bored with that menu too! Visit the recipe forums, Pinterest, or local support group meetings. Promise yourself to cook once a week....and try a new recipe each time. Practice eating out (print out one of those restaurant cards).

And you may not be able to exercise your lower half with a knee injury but you can still lift weights with your arms or do stretches.

Make a plan - set some short term, non-scale goals.

    That's my advice. Good luck!

  4. If I can manage to get an entire Isopure down...that is 40g right there...REALLY helps with the overall Protein intake. I don't bother with anything "special" that is less than 10g. I don't want to waste my time and pouch space.

Isopure, Zone Bars, and Beans (I love refried beans!) gets me to my protien goals...but it is a struggle and commitment.

  5. I have a recipe for Energy Balls - you can substitute as you see fit to accommodate your diet, but the basics are:

    1 cup dried oats

    1 cup toasted coconut

    1/2 cup Peanut Butter

    1/2 cup ground flax seed

    1/2 cup chocolate chips

    1/3 cup honey

    1 tsp vanilla

    Mix, ball, eat.

Bite size servings help me portion, flax seed is like a miracle nutrient, and if I am careful with the sweet stuff and use bariatric peanut butter...it is a treat I am ok with having.

    Good Luck!

  6. I was banded in May 2010 and did superbly - until about half way to my goal. At that point, and as predicted, I got cocky and really just enjoyed the new sizes, energy, compliments, etc.

I started to slide downhill and have recently returned to the doctor and am trying to get back on track. My slide is manageable.

Is this a good place for support or is there a forum better suited to those struggling?

    Thanks,

    Luu.

  7. After a rather heated discussion, I thought I'd do this....

I think it should move. This board has lost a lot of members because of the uncomfortable nature of the chat. I, personally, am not offended by much (Subby - shut up ;))....but others are and it represents poorly to new members entering chat for the first time.

People forget this is an international board - "after dark" can be early morning for some members.

    Annnndddd....discuss!

  8. So - have any of you post-banders gotten sick yet from non-band related illnesses - just good old fashioned flu puking?

I am SCARED TO DEATH but know, eventually, it is going to happen, right? I think about the heaving until my chest hurts, the sheer AMOUNT of liquid and the split seconds with which it expels....

Does your band just completely pop off and ricochet around your organs?!!?!?!

As always, please share - good or bad.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. I was terrified to do anything other than what my doctor recommended. The only thing I can tell you is that you worked SO hard to get here...and your body is still healing. Please go back to your mushies and believe me...pizza is NOT going to agree with you in the future. Don't learn that the hard way! LOL

  10. OMG - I love this topic. And at the risk of pissing off my band-sisters...here's my two cents:

I think you need to qualify your 9s and 10s into younger and older. Here's why:

If you are looking to bed YOUNG 10's...I think you'd have a problem being massive. Young 10's say they want a man to treat them well, it is what's on the inside that matters, blah blah blah. And they mean it - in THEORY. But the majority will, in fact, sleep with the mediocre thin hottie over the awesome fatty.

HOWEVER...if you boys would increase your age range a bit....older women know what younger ones don't. Older ones really DO want the great guy, that knows the moves, and how to treat a woman. We do. Seriously. We are also way more sure of ourselves, what we like, and are far less mean and stupid. No offense younger girls...you'll agree with me when you're older.

So edub - figure in age of the hottie chic...and you've got a whole 'nother ball game.

  11. I think it is a great idea. I was required to go to "support group" meetings prior to receiving my band. At 70+ participants...it was more like an infomercial than a support group. And on top of it, it was nothing but a big love fest for the LapBand.

This site has all kinds of opinions and I found it - and still find it - to be my most valuable Lapband resource. Hands down.
