I'm 185lbs and seeing a Dr. Aug 14th
Rachel... My best advice to you is ... Call your insurance provider and inquire as to if they cover WLS. What's the requirements? I did insurance for a few years and can tell you that all are different. Remember they work for you. I can tell you that i was 5'2.5" and weighed 213. I had just lost 10lbs with WW that took me months and months to lose. When i did call they said i had to be 220ish lbs . This was because i had no co morbids. So, i stopped doing WW and of course the 10lbs came back what seemed to be over night... lol Then i went in to the doctor... did all i had to do and got approved first shot. You may be different because you have HB. But some require that the co morbid be treated with other means before WLS will be paid for. Hope you all the luck...

Almost Died with the Lap-Band!
I get defensive when people come here and insult or disrespect my friends. The people that do nothing but try and help other and then people like this woman. If you want to sympathize with her... Go ahead. Writing a review is NOT fruitless.... Tons and tons of people everyday look to the internet for guidance and read reviews on doctors and make decisions on weather or not to go to that person. She her self said that she researched him and everything was Rosy... Her not writing something was the same as saying..... go ahead.. do it to someone else.

Almost Died with the Lap-Band!
Not really Guy.... according to this website he has 70 something patients and NONE of them has ever said a bad word about him. Also looked him up and EVERY review was great. What happen to her could have happen to anyone during any surgery around the liver. It was an accident.

Should I band or VSG having doubts
band worked and is still working for me and all my friends that had LB are still going strong, except for my sister in law. She got her band in Mex and had nothing but problems. She just revised to GB. I hate to be a debbie downer... but three weeks ago i had supper with her. We stopped at Taco Bell (yuck) but that's what was available at the time, anywho.... i had pintos and cheese and a scoop of ground beef... she had the new smothered burrito and ate the whole thing... I don't see this surgery lasting long either... Just saying. Three friends had the sleeve, one had it done 5 years ago and has gained about 50lbs back of the 100 she lost. One only lost about 50 of the 100 she said she needed to lose and the last friend just had it done in Feb and ended up in the hospital in March and had to have a stint put in due to complications. I know this is not related, but, four of my friends had the GB done. Two have gained all the weight back, one is on her way and the other is doing great.

MY ONGOING FEUD WITH MY PCP!
OMG.... i wish i could go with you next time and hold him down so you can scratch his eyes out... I'm mad for you... You are not a failure.., you are doing great. What the heck is he expecting? It's only been just over 7 months.... this means you have lost an average of 7lb per month... that is a victory in my books

Almost Died with the Lap-Band!
First, sorry for getting the date wrong... so replace the 5... with a 3ish. There.. better? I was Angry at the way you disrespected the other people here. People that were just asking questions and trying to understand where you were coming from. You said you never told anyone to not get the LB... NO you didn't but, naming a post..... I almost died with the lapband..... does imply just that. What happen to you was terrible, but you got it removed and im guessing your doing ok.... So move on. Your doctor did retire.... at the end of 2011... because he was still doing LB's at least till sept of 2011 according to this site. You got banded in July of 2010, 8 weeks later started having trouble... so, give or take.. all this happened sept-oct of 2010..... but he was still doing bands a year later and you did feel the need to write a review because it's not in your nature... but its in your nature to come here 3ish years later.... ok Did you just wake up 3 years later and think..... Hummmm even though my doctor no longer practices, i no longer have the band.... I'm going to tell my story today. What were you trying to get out of posting "your story"? Why come here and scare other people?

Need some advice, please no negeativity!
I don't think there is a soul on here that did doubt what they were about to do. Im pretty sure we all got cold feet at one time or another. My husband didn't want me to have it done either. But he came around when i stood my ground. Get those Nay-Sayers out of your mind and follow your heart and put it up to God. My only regret was not doing this sooner....

Almost Died with the Lap-Band!
So i went on line and looked up your dr. and yes you were correct. Plenty of reviews saying what a wonderful dr. he is/was. All the way to recently in 2013. What i didn't see was a review from you telling "your story". It seems to me that at some point in the past 5 years you could have taken time to do so. And WARN others not to use this doctor. But instead you come here and rant about and imply how the Lapband almost killed you. No matter how you think your "wording" of the title of your post did not indicate as such.... IT DID and that was your intent. To tell your story, get your "im sorries" and try and stop others from have LB surgery because if it weren't you would have be compelled to write a review, sue the doctor, and come here 5 years ago and rant. If you were that concerned with others safety and health... why wait 5 years? Your right not all LB surgery are successful... but there are tons of successes to every NON success. NOT all surgeries period are successful ... that's why we all sign the papers saying we understand the risks involved in going under the knife.

Almost Died with the Lap-Band!
Hey b... remember what happened to Mrs. Shirley... 54shirley I know her's was due to a slip. So i think what this young lady is trying to say is.... We should all listen to our bodies and if we feel something is not right... don't stop till you get an answer. Maybe the topic should have been more like..... complication from Surgery, almost killed me. just saying

Meh
OMG..... My friend.... i could not have said it better myself. I feel exactly where you are coming from and completely agree with everything you said. I wrote a post like this a while back, some people were supportive of what i had too say... some not so much. And to them i said.... Too Heck with you all. But you are right, we come here to talk about our experiences with other and they say.... WOW you look great, tell me how/what you did.... you tell them and they then get so offended and or jealous of your success. Im not here to compete with anyone... just to read, encourage, chat, discuss, and yes Vent sometimes..... but in all that i believe speaking the truth is the most important. But some people can't handle the truth. You are amazing and still one of my encouragers..

Mexico Lap Banders / 4cc lap banders????
My sister in law had hers done in Mex. in 2008. Im not sure who did that surgery, but she had to get it removed. complications with the band and she developed a hernia. Not sure if it caused it.. so anyway, she got her band fix about 6 months later. Then she decided she didn't want to use the band as intended... "she's lazy" and expected the band to do it all for her.... she gained all the weight she lost and packed on another 40lbs. So, She had that removed and had Gastric Bypass 9 months ago. She as already started putting weight back on. Just goes to show you ... WLS is not for everyone.

What Did I Get Myself Into?
i agree with Dylan..... Tummy tuck was not fun... but it was soooo worth it.

It's not just what insurance you have, but who the policy holder works for.
Exactly..... perfectly said.

hellllp
I agree with HotButterfly.... and as this is not a end all be all, but i scanned the information my doctor gave me and My NUT gave me. I am by no means saying these are the guidelines you need to follow, but it does have some great information. I wish you all the luck ....
