  1. I take 2 chewable tums w/ calcium 750 per day. I also have a multi Vitamin and Vitamin D. Though the "D" was suggested by my gyn b/c of my birth control. I am 41 and a bit away from menopause. The calcium was something they tell all patients.
  2. First day of school and a student I had last year, but disappeared mid year is back in my class. She walks in and says at the top of her lungs: MISS, YOU GOT MAD SKINNY! A bunch of heads turn and I imagined the kids who did not know me were like...HTH fat was she before. LOL Yes I am thinner, but SKINNY....Not yet. Was nice she noticed, just wish it wasn't a school wide announcement! (This is 10th grader)
  3. Amanda, I told my classes the same thing last year (just a procedure) and when I lost a little weight I had on a new bra, they were convinced I had a boob job. I just laughed. I did eventually tell a few kids who I felt close too. If parents ever knew half the crap kids tell us about home, they would die!
  4. I am well onto solids, but have been feeling like general crap the last 3 days. I also have had indigestion the last couple of days, everything I eat is just "sitting". Not stuck, but sort of 'in my throat'. I also have a cold/allergies and got my period. (which I should not get due to my birth control). I wonder if all this along with the malaise is related???? I was able to eat melba toast at about week 4. There also is something in this are called BIMBO breads. They make a lot of stuff, but have already toasted white and wheat in packages. It worked well with a little soft speadable stuff. Good Luck!
  5. I wish all the pre surgical education would cover this. It is so frustrating. At least you would know. The worst part of bandster hell is the not understanding that this happens.
  6. I have changed so very many things about the way and what I eat. However, I can not abide "fake" mayonnaise. I have tried them all: FF, LF, Light, brand name, generic, etc. I have subbed FF ranch on my wraps and am fine with that. But, when I make egg or chicken salad I have to use real Full fat Hellman's. I cut down the amount I would normally use. I don't make it all the time either. What "REAL" food won't you compromise on?

    stupid ugly!!

You can't compare. I am a bit discouraged by my loss:55 lbs. in a year. I see people who were banded in May and have lost that much! Be patient...
  8. Just flipped on primetime (ABC) and they are doing brain surgery on an obese woman to trigger weight loss. WOW Gotta watch the whole thing now....
  9. I taped it too and will watch the rest laster. Yes, you are awake. They stimulated the brain and created cravings, heartburn and vomiting. Really weird...

    What are you craving???

Now I want White Castle too! LOL I have been craving penne ala vodka. the good creamy pink kind. I have had a teeny weeny helping at a party, but that was before my latest fill. Doubt I could do it now. Oh, and Pasta carbonara .......
  11. Suddenly, since last fill I can not eat eggs! very annoying. I can do egg salad, but that is a real slider with the real mayo. Will not eat fake mayo. Always trouble: Burgers, pork (deli ham is fine) doughy bread, white rice and Pasta. White meat. Can eat a wet rice like a rice a roni flavored thing but must mush it in my mouth.
  12. I agree with what was written already. My doctor hardly does GBP anymore. The Band seems to be preferred today. I think it has to do with the idea of eating and getting the nutrition. While I am aware the weight gain is possible with both procedures, I have seen 2 people with the GBP stop losing and regain all, plus more within 2 years of the procedure. My surgeon said I wasn't big enough to warrant the GBP. He said 10 years ago, he would have done it, but now he rarely does not do the band. I was (and still am) morbidly obese. I started at 289 and am 11 months out at 236. He is happy with my progress. So am I. The dumping syndrome w/ GBP is awful, as I have witnessed it w/ a friend who never saw the relation between what she ate and the dumping. Tells everyone she has never had it. This lie along with the others she tells herself is why she has been unsuccessful. She was out of school from June first and returned in September. She had full open surgery and was still not 100% by September. I love my band. I am a HS teacher and was out a week. Third Grade may prove more active:wink2:, so play it by ear. Good Luck and do what you feel most comfortable doing.

    Protein Powder!!??

Passing on a tip I got from Betsy on here: I use Proti Vanilla and make it w/ unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk. Much easier to take. THEN she told me to throw in a spoonful of FF,SF chocolate pudding powder. WOO HOO a chocolate shake party in your mouth. I make it in the blender w/ a little ice.

    earache

Interesting. I never put that together. Though I do suffer from a chronic ear infection in my left ear. I get a runny nose when I am too full.
  15. I try and curb these things too. I have FF chocolate milk, or my Protein shake with a spoon of FF/SF chocolate pudding mix. If I feeling really wild, I will have double chocolate Vita top. (100 cal) My friend always has dark chocolate kisses at her house, so if I am there I will have 2. I could never bring a bag in the house. I tried and ate them all. no good. I have had soft ice cream from the truck a few times this summer too. I try to fine decent substitutes. If at a party and the sheet cake looks really good, I will take a small slice and have it. I know some people are really "die-hard" about these things, and I guess my loss would be more w/o indulging, but like it was stated LIFE is first in Lifestyle.

    Time off from work???

I would like to do an occupation count and see what jobs people have that get this surgery.....Seems like an awful lot of teachers on here too. Stress eating? Nah we don't have stress. We work a half day and have all that vacation. LOL
  17. I really felt like neither fully understood. I have to have another one and this time I will make sure they get it.

    Time off from work???

That and the school lunch that is supervised by a nutritionist. Sample: French bread pizza and fries or spaghetti and pizza and fries. It is carbs, carbs and a side of fries. No wonder the kids are so fat too.

    Time off from work???

Hi, I too am a HS teacher. My surgery was on a Tuesday and I was outthe rest of the week. The following Monday was Columbus Day, so I got an extra day. I would have gone in that Monday. I was fine except that I was ordered (by idiot principal, who is male) to break up a scuffle during an assembly where I was hit in the incision. Saw stars! He then required me to stand in the auditorium for 2 hours to supervise. When I wrote up the incident report (in case there were problems medically) he was pissed. Anyway, I would say a good week is fine for healing. I was tired those first 2 weeks, but not in pain or discomfort. Great that you are taking this journey. BTW SO MANY of my surgeon's patients are teachers. Are teachers obese in general? LOL
  20. My GYN was the one who planted the seed and gave me my docs name. He wants me to speak to his daughter about it! My GP is happy w/ the progress too. I do agree that more Health professional are becoming educated. However, when I went for my first mammogram the form asks about surgery and foreign things, like pins and plates, so I wrote down lap-band. I laughed so hard when both the girl at the desk and the technician both said I would have to slide it down for the mammogram. They believed it was like a girdle......Even when I explained it they both looked confused.
  21. Men seem to lose more quickly in general.....BOOOOO! LOL
  22. I find that if I am losing well, they DON'T want to fill me more. If I gain or stay the same they are eager to fill and get some restriction going.
  23. I am confused....I received a catalog from a bariatric company. I think it was BE. Not sure. I was looking at all the different products and saw that they have a bunch of ready to go meals. I thought that getting a few would be good for in a pinch or if I go to a friend's house. Anyway, Most of them were pasta based or had rice. I was confused by this. Is pasta something we can/should work back into our eating over time? Granted I HAVE had a teeny weeny bit of Penne Ala Vodka at a party, but can't imagine making it my whole meal.... Just seemed odd that a bariatric catalog would have these items.
  24. Oh, this made me chuckle! Good NSV!

    What do you eat?

After I went to "normal" foods, I got lazy keeping track of my Protein. Mistake. I have now added a daily Protein shake and some Protein Bars as my "snack" and have been doing much better. I try to stick to about 900 calories a day. I journal sporadically, but know when I am diligent the weight drops at a better rate. I will have potato once in a while or the skinny bagel from Thomas', but only half. I am able to tolerate fruit much better now, so keep that on hand. lunch is chicken on a salad or a wrap w/ alpine american and low salt ham and FF ranch. I make eggsald once in a while too, but not a lot since I WILL NOT eat fake mayo. String cheese, light cow cheeses and RF wheat thins are an Ok snack. It is a lot of moderation. I overdid it this week and feel awful. Need a day of liquids/lite food to clean out the band. The plateaus are normal, just change it up a bit. It is easy to get into food ruts, which is why I come on here.
