    My Surgery Experience

The form fitting clothes in my closet were disappearing. So were my heels and jeans. Somehow they were replaced with sweatshirts, sweatpants, and men's t-shirts and I couldn't stand the sight of myself. I was avoiding situations where my weight would possibly be an issue. I wasn't living any more, I was existing. Once my denial was completely drained out, I realized although I promised this time would be different, my dieting and exercise attempts failed over the past 4 years. I made the appointment to learn more about the lap band in October of 2010 and after the seminar I was sure it was for me. At times I doubted if I could go through with it, if I could say goodbye to overeating. But then I remembered how I felt after I overate, how I looked after I overate. How my health would continue on the downward path if I keep overeating. So, I keep remembering that "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". Yes, I can choose to eat that bacon cheeseburger, that steak, those fries. It's not that "I can't eat it because I'm dieting". Now, I think "I don't want to eat that because I want to live". I had a great surgery experience. My veins are usually very difficult but the nurse got the IV in on her first try . The anesthesiologist was witty and charming and the surgeon was eager for me to start my new life (and also let me know Mondays are great for him because he's well rested ). They gave me a drug to relax me then took me back to the OR. We were talking and next thing I knew I woke up in the recovery room. I was in pain, let them know, and started my pain medication regimen. Then I had an xray done on the same bed, I was glad I didn't have to move around. Then I went to another room, my husband came in and I was released within an hour. I was happy to go home and sleep! Today is day 2, I have no hunger for now and I'm so glad this part is over with! I will definitely find some terrible pictures my husband managed to sneak of me a few days before the liquid diet and post them . Thanks for reading!

    Lap Band in Progress

Good luck! I hope it happens soon. And if it doesn't, don't give up

    Simple Math

True that. You could eat 1,000 calories from Twinkies every day and lose weight. You will be malnourished, but calories are calories. Although, keep in mind, running and walking a mile burns the same amount of calories . I know it's logical but sometimes I think it's important to keep in mind. I'd be much more inclined to take an hour stroll every day vs. a 10 minute run.
  4. It takes courage to let that stuff out. I wish you continued success.

  5. I agree completely. Also, my surgeon, (Center of Excellence, Director of the Program), isn't fond of the sleeve for a few reasons that I agreed with. But, like another person said that I also agree completely with, choices are great

    Counting Days

Luckily my nutritionist gave me a sheet with exact dates when to start each phase. It's nice to be able just to put them on a calendar. Maybe they can do the same for you?
  8. Thank you SO MUCH! I posted a blog on my whole experience

    My Surgery Experience

I'm so glad that the surgery itself made my dedication even stronger. Just knowing it's there makes me feel even more focused. normis, I'm happy for you! 13lbs is quite a bit for such a short time span. bmendoRNurse, nope, no gas ex. My surgeon never recommended it to me. I mostly feel sore at the port site. The nausea I'm sorta happy for because I think it's helping me not eat ravendays, it really is! I'm not a huge fan of Kate Moss but that quote stuck with me. finallyncontrol, thanks for the motivation!

decided to do the Atkins diet

That's what I'm thinking. But, if you're serious, that seems like quite a bit of food and maybe you should get an OK with your nutritionist first. Hope it works out!
  12. Thanks for reading :) When are ya getting banded?

  13. hahahaha no, the surgeon is just preparing your liver Hang in there! You'll look back on this as your first stepping stone. It also makes the post op diet easier to transition to.

    Stir Crazy!!

Eventually you'll be able to have a little of your missed foods and be satisfied, so think of it as a "I'll see you for a little while, later" instead of "goodbye". It's been working for me at least. It is a big change but it's exactly what we wanted . Try to remember how you felt after eating those old foods too. Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels! Hang in there my dear.
  15. Surgery went great! Every staff member I encountered was very supportive. I've been walking aroudn as much as I can and pain is bearable.

  16. I was banded on 1/31/11. Everything went really well and the whole staff was very encouraging. I was happy not to have a cathader! I am sore but definitely not the worse pain I've had. I'm a type 1 diabetic on the pump and that all went smoothly as well. Surgery was done at 8 and I went home at 12.

  18. I know what you mean, I was changing it every other day and now I'm down to 50 units a day. I know it will change once I eat but for now I'm pleased. I had my surgery today and ran about 220 and everything went fantastic.

    Calling all Military Spouses

I have Tricare Prime and I'm at Fairchild AFB and my husband is active duty AF. I have had to pay $320 for the nutritionist, but everything else is covered.
  20. Thank you so much for all the responses, I definitely needed them right now.

    How Did I Gain??? UGG!!!

I really like to use the Wii Fit because it charts your weight for you and you can set goals as well. It really helps to see it graphed out! The best part is it does all the work for you
  22. Tomorrow is my surgery day!!!!!! I'm feel like I'm floating.

  23. I'm a type 1 on the pump getting banded 1/31/11. I had the same concerns but what will happen is you will drop your rates significantly during the liquid diet and even run high in order to prevent lows during the first few months. During the operation, my Endo has me having my pump at 75%. I worried about the same thing! But, my endocrinologist and surgeon want me to be running in the 150's-200's for now.
  24. Same for me, night time is when my hungry comes out! It's this Monday!
