Midband, Lap Band Who Has What?

how has it been with your bands? Have you had any problems so far?
  2. What is your height? There are many people on this forum that have started with low bmi's please check out Low BMI Bandsters - LAP-BAND As for me I started with a BMI of 33 but in Korea that is not really seen as being a low bmi because people are so skinny here so it is acceptable to have weightloss surgery at that weight. I am 5'6 and want my bmi to be about 23 or near there. Having the band is not going to make you lose weight. You must change your attitude and feelings towards food. If i wanted to I could gain weight with the band eating bad foods like ice cream pop beer fried food etc but I was dedicated to losing my weight and worked hard towards that goal.
  3. Oct 10th I had a high pressure 11cc band put in me. Today I just went back to the doctors with some concerns and I have band erosion. Just a little tiny bit about the size of a pea. I was completey unfilled ( was at 10cc) and am now on meds for 2 weeks. My doctor wants me to come back in 2 weeks to see how my stomach is then. I didnt really have big signs of erosion. My band area hurt once for 5 minutes a week ago and some of the tubing area hurt a bit for a week. I also once had 6 hours of acid reflux that was it. Anyways my doctor is basically planning on removing the band in 2 weeks because he doesnt think that my stomach will heal in that time then wants me to wait 3 months and then he will install a low pressue 10cc band.... Has this ever happened to someone so soon after being banded? What did you do? What did your doctor suggest. i am lost on what to do.
  4. I had a swedish band in my stomach. Apparently it is an older band I believe and the more fill you have the higher the pressure. When I get my new band it will be one of the two kinds that are approved by the FDA in the United States. I will get the ap-s. So begins my 3 months without my band. If you want to read more about my experience check out my blog which will have photos soon.
  5. I am already banded but my band is being removed for 3 months. I am worried about gaining my weight back so I was thinking of following a pre op diet plan. However before I was banded I wasn't required to follow a diet before surgery so I am wondering what everyone else's pre op diet plans look like. What did you have to eat What weren't you allowed to eat etc Thanks
  6. I lose weight in my face and stomach first, then my boobs then my butt, but my thighs are stubborn and i usually don't lose much there ever!
  7. So I might be getting my band removed for 3 months so my stomach can recover from a very small band erosion. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to adjust back into life without a band? Any suggestions on how NOT to gain any weight? Do I have any hope in hell of losing weight during that time? Are any of you being rebanded? Why or why not?
  8. Sometimes my port moves a little. I can feel it and if my pants are tight around my waist and i move a certain way I feel a little pop. Is that what you felt? I have talked to my doctor about this and he said it was fine, there just isnt as much fat around my port so it moves a little but the stitches are fine.
  9. i had that one before too but it doesnt work anymore :rolleyes2:

    What causes band erosion

found it  I have band erosion right now and getting my band removed in 9 days :rolleyes2: so I have been doing as much research as possible to find out why my band eroded so soon http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f78/lap-band-erosion-46721/
  11. seriously? No one has been in my boat... wow its lonely in here
  12. i have looked everywhere too with no luck :rolleyes2:
  13. I really hope you have talked to your doctor and maybe a shrink about your thoughts and concerns. You need to remember that the first few months after surgery is mostly a time for healing. Small fills a few weeks apart are important to space out because your stomach need to adjust to having the band there. Sure you can ask for a big fill but even if you get it, big fills too often are thought to be a possible cause for band erosion. Would you rather have that? Trust me it isnt fun! I think even if you talk to a lawyer about a lawsuit they will probably tell you, that you dont have a case. I wish the best for you and that you can learn better how to use this tool for weight loss.

How soon is too soon for the first fill?

your stomach is still healing you probably have stitches around your stomach too making it more sensitive. If you get fills too fast that can lead to band erosion. Only a small percent of people can it but it is possible (*raises her hand*). Think of your stomach like a babys stomach. When a baby is first born they dont eat solid food right away right? They drink milk then have mushies then work on solids. No one is expected to lose weight right after receiving the band as the first few weeks are for healing. So let your body heal now and you will thank yourself later.

    scars

im 4 months out and my scars are still there but look almost like nothing. My friends who dont know about the surgery have seen my stomach and didn't ask what the scars were. They are really faded and unless you look really hard you wouldnt really notice them. I usually forget about them even when I look in the mirror
  16. So here is my situation. In a few months I will be going home for a visit. I havent been back home in years. Anyways I havent told anyone except two co workers ( in case anything went wrong) about my decision to have lap band surgery. I dont know how to break it to my family that I had the surgery when I go home. When I left home I was skinny ( thanks to an extreme diet that failed once I moved to another country) and when my family came to visit I had put on some weight. I am sure from photos they could tell I put on more weight recently. Anyways any ideas how to break it to them. My main concern is that I had a low BMI ( 33) and so I dont think they will understand my decision to have the surgery. For me I was concerned about my health and I wanted to take control of my weight and my PCOS but I know they wont understand. I would love to avoid the topic ( which I will probably do) but am afraid that if I get food stuck they might have a slight heart attack if they dont know I had the surgery. ( but knowing me I will probably wait till an event like that happens to tell them). EEEkkk I'm so nervous to tell them!

    Blogging

my blog is in my signature. I am having complications and being rebanded in a few months so it might be interesting for people to read about my experiences
  18. yes you should go back to your doctor. I had a pain where my tubing area is and it turned out i needed the tubing to be moved because it was too close to my skin because I lost so much fat around my stomach area. I had a slight very small 30 second pain one day in my band area a week before my doc appointment and he decided to just give me a full check up and he found a teeny tiny bit of band erosion. Having said that its better to be safe then sorry so see your doctor as the pain could be anything. Are you maybe eating too much food each meal? Are you making sure to eat slowly for 30 minutes?

    Two Fills Within 5 days

dont rush your fills it can cause band erosion if you go too fast and your stomach cant handle the pressue. You stomach is healing for the first 6 months after being banded. Good things come to those who wait
  20. well onikenbai if u read back through these posts you would find ur answer to whether u posted before or not. I am not looking for something to pay for my fills. But with my parents health insurance I must tell them if I have had any medical procedures. Somehow all through university and college I was able to be on my parents health insurance until I left when I was 22. If I live at home I am covered under their insurance until I am 25 years old or until I finish college ( before a certain age I believe 30).
  21. yup see my parents and i are close too but I knew they would never let me get the lap band but I have researched it for years and couldnt lose weight any other way. They also worry too much because they seem to think korea is not like a first world country with great medical care and doctors where i actually cant stand north american doctors now. Korean doctors are way better. I will break the news to them when I do move back home though I am sure they are going to kill me. I would want someone close to know about the surgery. I have two co workers one at each school i teach at here in korea that know about my surgery in case anything happens to me here.
  22. I'm 24 years old. If I am in college when I go back home my parents health insurance will still cover me. I am self pay. My parents dont know about the surgery. I had it done in Korea. No one knows about my surgery actually. I couldnt get it in Canada because I started with a low BMI and self paying for it in Canada would be too expensive. I have a great job here and was able to pay each month a certain amount to be able to get the surgery done here.
  23. I didnt really have any signs of having erosion. An area where my tubing is hurt but the doctor said it is because my tubing is close to my stomach because I lost so much fat around my stomach. He told me I would have to have a revision to move the tubing and port. One day after drinking Water too fast I pbed and had acid reflux for a few hours but only that one time. That could be a sign that I had too much of a fill. One day out of no where i also had a short quick 30 second pain in my band area. I thought my band had just slipped. He did a camera scope and had to look long and hard and found a little area smaller then a pea where the erosion had started. Usually you don't find that erosion so soon but because I am a baby for pain he checked everything he could to see what was wrong with me. I'm glad he didnt dismiss my pain as just my tubing needing to be moved or I would have gone longer with the erosion. I really didnt expect it. It doesnt even hurt. I think it might have happened because I got my fills too fast I was already at 10cc in an 11cc band

    Easter Challenge Anyone?

I had a really short sharp pain in my band area one day out of no where for a minute. Then i had smoe tubing pain located under my boobs and then one night I drank Water too fast pbed and had acid relux for a few hours. I went to my doctor and he checked my port and tubing areas and said I lost too much fat in my stomach area and that my tubing was close to my skin causing a little pain. He then did a camera test sticking a camera down my throat and found a tiny little area where my band was eroding into my stomach ( he almost missed it, it is such a small hole but he checked again and again and finally saw it). I am on 2 weeks of strong meds hoping the hole will heal itself but he wants my band out wait 3 months then get a new different kind of band. We only found the band erosion so soon because I am a baby for pain and wanted to know right away what was wrong with me. I was fine 2 weeks ago but it was from my appointment with him 2 weeks ago and when I saw him 2 days ago that things changed. :woot:

    Easter Challenge Anyone?

well sadly I wont achieve my easter goal. I have ban erosion not even 4 months after getting the band and it is being removed in 2 weeks. Right now I am completely unfilled and my doc tells me not to be disappointed if I gain weight back Weighed myself this morning and I lost 1/2 a kg in a week. Wish me luck that I don't gain any weight. I'll try to keep up with the challenge but not holding my breathe Good luck everyone
