  1. Gaining weight will make you less likely to be approved! I have yet to be banded and will probably be down 70+ pounds by the time my 3 months are up. I have asked them the same question every time I visit the surgeon's office and always get the same reply. They use the starting weight and BMI when they submit to the insurance companies. The supervised diet is to make sure that you are willing to change because the band is only a tool and it is you that will be doing the real work.
  2. I am no psychologist but I would be willing to bet that she is in denial about WLS helping her lose weight and doesn't want you to get it and prove her wrong. WLS if a big step and you are changing your life forever. Anybody that is going to tell you that it is a mistake when what you need is support is only going to do you harm.
  3. The poster is looking to scam an insurance company but it is not an insurance company at all. It is the American tax payer. Please get your hand out my pocket!!
  4. Drop your "friend" like a bad habit. She is nothing more than a hindrance to your well-being.
  5. I know what you meant but it seemed like it may give Patty comfort and we can't have that. :scared2:
  6. Speak for yourself. I am and I'm not alone. :scared2: The fact that there are so many delusional adults that still believe in that crap scares me.
  7. I think Rebeca looked kind of trashy with the blond hair and not in the good way. I'm glad Danny won too because I have disliked Rudy since he voted Shay out.
  8. I don't think anyone has answered you original question yet. It will be 5 to 8 months from now. Plenty of time to think about and make sure you are ready. What you are calling approval is probably only the fact that you fit the criteria for approval. After your initial consultation with the surgeon, his office will set you up with an appointment to see a nutritionist or dietitian. From that day on you are on what is referred to as a supervised diet. Most insurance companies require 3 to 6 months of supervised diet. During this time, you will probably have to get a psych eval and sleep test done. They will probably also be looking for any proof of wight you have for the last 2 years like doctor visits or whatever. You'll find out a lot more during the consultation. Don't be shy, ask the surgeon or his staff all of the questions you can think of.
  9. That is the total for the day. I have a Bodybugg and it tells me how many calories I am burning throughout the day.
  10. This is hilarious and I just wanted to see it in quotes
  11. for most of us the only way to prevent the loose skin is to stay fat and that obviously isn't an option if we are here. Quite a few people have asked about this prior to even starting the banding process. I'd think it would be the last worry on anyone's mind. There are surgeries to take care of loose skin but that is something you should worry about after you've lost the weight.
  12. I don't think it is discussing bypass that gets some people here's blood boiling. It is the way that some people come across. For instance, some come in with the attitude that people that got banded didn't do their homework first and know nothing of bypass. Others come in just trying to cause friction by alluding to bypass being better than banding. It's all in the context that you bring it up.
  13. Did you look in the closet and under the bed?
  14. Your surgeon is obviously not a dietitian and I am willing to bet that he/she does not follow rule #1 and shouldn't be suggesting it to you. Cutting out carbs all together will only make you crave them more. When you finally have had enough of this fad diet and start eating carbs like a "normal" person, you will gain the weight you lost back and maybe even more because it will have altered your metabolism. Rule #2 doesn't sit right with me either. Protein shakes are slider foods. They will not make you full until the next meal. #3 is right on. This is why everyone suggests we get second opinions. Your surgeon should not be pretending to a nutritionist any more than a nutritionist should be operating on anyone.
  15. That is not going to happen. It is just the current hot political topic. There are too many smart, working people in this country to let it happen.
  16. I consume about 1,500 a day and am dropping 3 - 5 pounds a week. It all depends on how active you are as well as your age and weight. I have a Bodybugg and it makes it a lot easier to know what needs to be done. It tells me how many calories I am burning and I can either work harder or eat less.
  17. Wow! Sounds like you are doing everything right. If you do find out something is missing, please post it because I am curious. Have you considered a device like the Bodybugg to tell you how many calories you are burning? It's not cheap but it helped me a lot.
  18. It is not really a balanced meal. Sorry, but where are the fruit and/or vegetables? Onions, peppers or mushrooms would have been great additions. How about some sort of melon?
  19. She may be just trying to keep you from getting depressed by telling you what you want to hear. This is not necessarily what you need to hear. Tell her to be honest with you. Sometimes we need a kick in the ass to see reality. My latest was a heart attack at 45.
  20. nellie, You posted what you are eating and all sounds good but what kind of exercise regimen are you on? Your body adjusts to what you are eating and the activity you do daily. You need to change it up. Also, how much Water are you drinking? Believe it or not, if you don't drink enough water, the weight will not come off.
  21. Prove it. Just kidding. I figured it out by the amount calories you are consuming. Women burn far less calories than we do. I doubt anything would be lost by a normal woman consuming 2,600 calories a day. The original poster and and anyone that thinks they are doing everything right and still not losing weight should look into investing in a Bodybugg. It will tell you how many calories you are burning. Then you enter what you're eating on their website and they do the calculations for you. It is working for me. I am burning an average of 4,000 a day and eating less than 2,000. I'm dropping 3-5 pounds a week and won't be banded until February.
  22. Is this your initial consultation with the surgeon? Have you not had any kind of waiting period or other appointments? If so, sit back and enjoy the ride. It's probably going to be a while. I had my initial consultation on 9/18/09 and they scheduled me for a nutritionist; psychologist; sleep study; a follow up with them for the next 3 months and a final consultation on 1/06/10. I was told that my paperwork would be submitted to the insurance company on January 6th or 7th and I would probably be scheduled for surgery in early February if all goes well.
  23. I quit reading after the second paragraph. It is a horrible program no matter what the rest of the article says. It is discriminatory that only those with a BMI over 30 have to take this course. I may be all for it if it were all students.
  24. Have you sought therapy? If it's in your head, that would be your best bet. You have the Lapband in place and know what needs to be done but can't do it in your current mental state. Talk to a shrink or psychologist. I prefer shrinks, they have script pads :w00t:
