I have a new pet peeve this week. Adults who use the word "tummy" when talking to other adults.
  2. I thought this season was ok. The guys losing 200+ pounds made it worthwhile. I don't know if I am being a misogynist or not but I wish they'd stop having people under 300 pounds. I don't think they have enough to lose to make it interesting. 15 minutes is about all I spend watching too. 10 minutes for the competition and another 5 for the weigh in. I can't believe they have made it this long without killing somebody. I know I'd die if I worked that hard.
  3. Hopefully she read the rest of the comments in this thread and the IHFT thread. She should have known she was opening a can of worms.
  4. Which came first the chicken or the egg? Did you look for endurance first in being able to walk a long way or did you look for speed and then start making it longer and longer?
  5. TN, Have you been to the gym? There are plenty of fat idiots. Especially around this time of year and everyone making New Years resolutions that never last. You don't need some kind of stressful work out routine that you are going to hate and stop doing after a while. The WII Fit sounds like a great way to start and then throw in a little walking.
  6. HB, I am usually the one that is playing devil's advocate and cutting against the grain but of the 10 or so of us that saw the original post, you are the only one that saw anything constructive in it. I wouldn't feel the same way if the OP at least included herself while pointing out the problem with fat people. After losing 19 lbs she was up on a pedestal declaring herself better than fat people.
  7. Sorry, I don't have Tricare but I can tell you that the bariatric surgeon I went to in Colleyville (Dr David Kim) was able to answer all of my insurance questions before I even contacted Aetna. There are quite a few in the area. You can call around and ask them if they accept Tricare and what the specifics are.
  8. "I hate fat people" started with the OP trying to come to terms with his on self hatred. The OP of this thread was on a pedestal ridiculing fatties. They are not the same. Although, there are some idiots that posted to IHFP with hateful crap.
  9. She said that fat people are dirty, disgusting, don't shower, don't wipe our asses right and don't wash our hands after going to the bathroom. Did I miss anything guys?
  10. Most insurance companies will approve because you have high blood pressure. The rule is usually a BMI of 40 or a BMI of 35 and co-morbidities. Hypertension is a co-morbidity.
  11. You generalize about fat people being dirty and eating like slobs. Skinny people and average build people can be just as dirty and disgusting. Why would you hold this just against fat people? As for getting healthier; they are either content as they are; have tried to get healthy and given up; have medical problems that keep them from losing weight or don't realize what they are doing to themselves. I won't judge them as long as they are using my tax dollar to maintain their girth.
  12. I personally am offended by your comments but everyone has a right to their opinion. No matter how asinine it is. Being fat, I probably shower more than the average person because god knows I sweat a lot more. Nor have I ever been told that I stink. You can't assume that all of us have poor hygiene because you do or did.
  13. lifenews.com is an anti-choice, xtian rag. You can't quote their numbers and expect them to be true. I personally think abortion is the only healthcare that my tax dollar should be spent on.
  14. Thanks! You look great and you are doing a good job. Checking in here will keep you on track. You can gain inspiration from the success folks and remind yourself where you came from with the newer ones.
  15. Sounds like you are falling into the same trap I have many times. Becoming complacent after losing a bunch of weight and reverting right back to my old ways. This is exactly the reason I am getting the lapband. I am hoping it will keep me from reverting back. May I ask how you are slipping if you've got good restriction?
  16. Where are you located? The larger metropolitan areas seem to have countless bariatric centers and surgeons.
  17. Stay away from sick kids! If you catch the flu or some other disease kids carry you could end up coughing so hard you tear a stitch or pop a staple.
  18. If that is your only fear, get over it. There are many on this site that Lapband doesn't work for. With most of them it is because they aren't willing to work with it. They either think that the lapband is a magic pill that instantly makes them skinny no matter what they eat. The others go into it with a "dieting" mindset. It is not a diet, diets end. You have to modify your eating habits for the rest of your life and it doesn't have to hurt. You can eat most of the same things you enjoy eating now, only less of them. I'll probably be banded the same week as you and I've done enough research to know that the lapband works for almost everybody that is ready for it. And, look at the bright side; if it doesn't work, there's alway by-pass.
  19. Anybody that says "none of this, none of that" does not know anything about a proper diet. There are no bad foods when eaten in moderation. The holidays are almost over. It will be much easier soon. You don't have to kill yourself on a diet. Just limit your portions and try to walk a minimum of 30 minutes a day. During the 6 month supervised diet do you have a monthly meeting with a nutritionist in the surgeon's office? They will give you much better advice that somebody telling to to eat no sugar or white things.
  20. Comparing yourself to others. 4 pounds in 1 week is great! If it would make you feel better, I can dig up a half dozen recent posts where people said they gained weight the first week. Everybody is different and you can't base your weight loss on the experience of others.
  21. Bariatric surgeon's have specialists in their office for dealing with insurance companies. Call a local bariatric surgeon and ask your questions to the person that answers. Many of them will answer simple questions without ever asking your name. If the questions are answered in a positive way you can make your appointment for initial consultation while you're on the phone. At the top of this page there is a tab to click for surgeons. Give one a call. It can't hurt.
  22. If you don't like veggies, why juice? You get the missing Vitamins in pill and powder form.
  23. Aetna only requires a 2 year history. Did you see a doctor in 2007 or 2008 at all? I had records from 2 doctor visits in 2008 and the lapband surgeon's office said my visits there would cover 2009.
  24. Like the poster before me said. You don't have to tell the person pickling you up anything. Tell them you had a colonoscopy, that usually keeps follow up questions to a minimum. Or get a ride from a guy and tell him it was a female thing.
