So, I'm curious to know from the initial seminar to the surgery date how long did it take everyone to get a date?I've been putting off going but my PCP has been telling me that I need to go. So, I have my seminar visit on the 13th. I'd like to get the surgery done before the end of the year so I don't have to start another deductible...
If you expect your insurance company to pay for it your chances of having surgery by the end of the year are slim to none.
Your best bet is to call and ask the insurance company.

Shop around!
Consultations are free.
Then go with the surgeon or center you are most comfortable with.
Personally, I think you should check out Dr David Kim. He is my surgeon (and Nate Newton's) and probably the best in Texas.

I use bodybugg.com but you have to pay for a subscription.
FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate are some of the more popular free ones. There are literally hundreds online

I had surgery on a Tuesday and could have easily gone back to my desk job on Wednesday.
Plan on taking a good part of the week off just to make sure.
It took me 4 weeks to get stuck and if I took my time chewing and concentrated on what I was doing, I'd never get stuck.

There is no need for a gym if you don't have the time.
Surely, you can find an hour a day to walk or climb stairs even if it is for 10 minutes 6 times a day.
-
thank you guys for your responses. i must have misunderstood what the nutritionist was saying. maybe the sipping is for the first couple of weeks post op. i am so excited about this journey i must have zoned out for a minute while she was talking. i can't stop thinking about 'life after' being banded.so excited! so determined! to be successful!
If you are unsure about something your surgeon or nutritionist say, please ask them to clarify. There really is no such thing as a stupid question and this is for the rest of your life.
You'll be fine if you keep a positive attitude!

lmfao...you bad boy binger!!!!!I don't do it every day any more but I can't just have one. When I drink, I DRINK!
I don't usually eat when I drink. It kills the buzz.
I guess I am just a social drinker intent on over socializing.
-
Congrats!!
I am almost at goal and the only thing I changed in my diet is smaller portions; no fast food and no soda. I eat out 5 or 6 days a week. Fried chicken and pizza are still on the menu.
I also walk at least 5 miles a day where I used to just walk from the couch to the bathroom a few times a day.
I plan on keeping my band because it will keep me honest and I will never again be tempted to shovel the food into my pie hole like I used to.

If I didn't think I could control myself during the holidays, I would schedule a small fill.
But, if you are in no hurry, which is a real good thing; give your will power and attitude a chance. If you lose control and gain a few pounds, you will just have to work a little harder to lose it.
-
The only real drinking rule is don't do for 30 to 60 minutes after eating.
I guzzle Water at all other times.
Taking smaller bites and chewing is much more important.
I lost 95 pounds during my 5 month pre-op practice.
-
Congrats; you look awesome and great post!!
How could you think that 90+ pounds wasn't a success?
#MagicWithinme and judych reacted to this -
Mine are becoming more and more noticeable to the touch as I lose weigh. I am hoping they will melt away but don't know.

My surgeon had no restrictions with alcohol but as mentioned, it is all empty calories and carbs.
I'm a binge drinker (not proud nor ashamed) and have had no issues.

Thanks Jacqui,Looks as if I'll be fine with a liquid prep. I can understand my LB doc wanting to do an unfill if I had to take 20 big pills. I would not want them trying to get through the small opening in my band.
FYI
Just as a warning to others who may read this, here is more info on the pill form of colon prep: -
The food and Drug Administration has added a "black box" warning — the sternest warning possible — to the two prescription bowel cleansers that come in tablet form. The new warning stems from reports of kidney damage in patients who took the pills, which contain sodium phosphate, in preparation for a colonoscopy.
Also, the FDA, which can require warnings only on prescription drugs, said no over-the-counter sodium phosphate products should be used for bowel-cleansing. That led C.B. Fleet Co. to announce a voluntary recall of Phospho-soda, a non-prescription laxative that in larger doses has been used for bowel-cleansing.
My DH was given the pill prep just 2 months ago, so GI docs are still perscribing it!!!
How are you doing Jacqui? I hope all is OK with you.
Thanks for the info! Phospho-soda is what I was given prior to my colonospcopies. I have moved 1,850 miles since. Sohopefully, it will be something else next time.

I drink plenty of Guinness every other week or so.
I've tried drinking garbage like PBR, Coors, Bud and miller but they are very painful due to the high amount of carbonation.
As mentioned above, it is all empty calories and a lot of them. Be prepared to work that much harder to lose the weight if you choose to drink.
Knaroz, You're wrong on the mixer thing. The hard alcohol has more sugar and calories than anything you mix it with.

I had my surgery on Oct 21st and I am having a hard time forcing myself to drink and I am starting to feel like I am getting dehydrated. I am going to try to really concentrate on drinking...its a lot harder than I thought it would be. I have been horrible about the Water and the Protein water...and thats all i have been ingesting since my surgery.Patrice, please talk to your surgeon about this if you mean you find it physically hard to drink.
I was guzzling down Water and Protein Shakes a few hours out of surgery. I did have a fill that slowed my drinking down for a day or so but I don't think it is normal to last a long time.
-
I honestly don't think it makes a difference to me.
I was 100% covered but am just as or a lot more dedicated to being successful as those that shelled out the cash.
Then again, I would have spent the $12K plus if insurance didn't cover it.

I've had 3 colonoscopies but none since banding.
I have never had to drink the gallon of Water mixed with the laxative. My dad has. So, I know what you are referring to.
I had to drink a couple of small bottles of foul tasting phospho something or other. Talk to you doctor about an alternative laxative.
I personally would not not get unfilled just to take a laxative but on the other hand, my surgeon suggests getting an unfill for any surgery you are being put under for.

Its still effin 86 degrees here, my air conditioner is still running non stop, driving my crazy! Plus 48% humidity, hot, sticky, sucky. I'm bitchy dwarf today. :w00t:I'm loving it!!
This is what I moved to Texas for!

I am very confused...do they fill the band when u have the surgery or do they wait until you are healed and then fill i have been doing research and am a little confused as to when u actually start using the band..and how soon after surgery do you start loosing anything typically??The band comes with 3cc in it. Some spills out during surgery. Some surgeons remove it all. Some surgeons leave it. Some surgeons add more. It all depends on the surgeon.
The band and/or fills DO NOT make you lose weight at all. It is how much you eat; what you eat and how much you exercise that makes you lose weight.
The band is simply a tool to limit how much you eat.

I have to drink something to get it to pass..That's what you're doing wrong.
"Getting it to pass" it isn't supposed to have help passing.
Take smaller bites and chew the crap out of every bite.
DO NOT drink with meals.
This takes a little getting used to but you will get there.

I could've got my haircut 20 minutes after surgery. Of course, I'm a guy and only have to sit for 10 minutes.
How much fat per day?
in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Posted
Fat in general is not bad.
You should try and keep trans fat to 0 and saturated fat to less than 20 grams a day.
Talk to Pam or David at Dr Kim's office. They'll be happy to answer.
