btrieger replied to lovemysgt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I eat them all of the time. Delicious, nutritious and cheap. The bread is not an issue if I take my time. -
Congrats!!!

what is a bandster who went astray to do?
btrieger replied to Cherylita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The sooner you start worrying about yourself more than others, the easier it will be. It's like they say on the airplane, take care of your own oxygen mask before helping your neighbors. -
Check out this page:http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/ It has the instructions as well as location.

My insurance will not fund plastic surgery. However, I also have an umbilical hernia that they cover 100%. I'm having both done simultaneously and it is saving me about 50%. I have a quote for $4,870 and am going to another consultation tomorrow.

Oh yeah but I'm not rushing it. I bounced between 220 and 223 for about a month and since getting below 220 I have been bouncing from 212 to 216 for about another month. I'm looking at getting my panniculectomy in the next few months. I am estimating that to take off another 15.

Mine is like that as well. I've just learned to live with it and eat until I am satisfied. Be it a 6" sandwich from Subway or 2 boneless buffalo wings from Buffalo Wild Wings.

Record everything she has to say so you can play it back to her in 3 years after she's gained every pound back. Most by-pass patients do. The after care that comes with the lapband slows and/or prevents the relapse that most bypass patients incur.

Smoking raises your blood pressure and the chemicals you inhale in the smoke can prohibit healing or cause blood clots. It's definitely best to avoid smoking a month in advance and a month following surgery. I don't smoke hookers[sic] but I do smoke and know I have to stop for surgery.

How much weight have u lost?
btrieger replied to lml398's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
151 pounds, 10 days shy of first consultation. 56 pounds since surgery 6 months ago. -
Eating Proteins first and then the other stuff is not a rule. It is more of a guideline. The rules while eating are simple: Don't drink while eating Chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew Stop eating when satisfied

The only stupid questions are those not asked. It has begun before the food even reaches your "pouch". Digestion begins in the mouth. Saliva contains enzymes which start breaking food down. The food is further broken down by digestive fluids in your stomach including your pouch. The pouch itself is only there to slow down the food and trick your stomach into thinking it is full.

To exercise or not to exercise...
btrieger replied to dlynn44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"Muscle weighs more than fat" is a bunch of bunk! Muscle does indeed weigh more than fat but there is no way in Hell to build muscle at nearly the rate you burn fat. Are you doing the same resistance training every day? If so, you have to take a day or 2 off in order for your muscles to relieve themselves of the lactic acid you built during exercise. Also, how much Water are you consuming daily. You have to make sure to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day. Water acts as a filter and cleans your system. Also, without enough water, your body starts to retain Fluid. -
BMI over 50 - In it for the long haul
btrieger replied to wanna.b.healthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry, I could live the rest of my life on nothing but Optifast. So, I guess I can't be of any help here. I love the stuff. Is it the taste or the texture that turns you off? -
I have. It has to do with my blood pressure. I've experienced in past weight loss attempts as well. It is a pain in the ass. I am near-sighted and now have to take off my glasses to read. I am too young to be getting bifocals.
-
Actually, in this case; she should compare herself to others instead of being skeptical. Most don't lose 16 pounds in just over 2 weeks. That number is phenomenal. Congrats on the weight loss but god only knows how much you were expecting to be down in just 17 days.

Sounds like a minor slip or you're swollen for some reason. Please call your surgeon's office for their advice.

There is nothing wrong with being a scale whore. You just can't let the daily fluctuations frustrate you. I weigh myself multiple times a day and only record my weight once a week. Five miles in 90 minutes is a pretty good pace. Congrats!!

How often do you exercise
btrieger replied to ICUnurserachel's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What is exercise? Walking from the couch to the bathroom and back is exercise. So, I'd think everybody exercises every day. I haven't been in a gym in over 5 years or done a real "work out" in probably just as long but I exercise every day. -
There may be no bashing but there is a good deal of bickering and it wouldn't be interesting without it.
