    Having Second Thoughts

Don't let once incident that happened "many years ago" stop you. You didn't come this far to turn back. There is more chance of you dying while driving to the hospital that there is in surgery. That being said, I think you have a year after insurance approves to go through with the operation. Maybe you do need to take a little time to think about it. Ask your surgeon if this is true.
  2. Losing 140 pounds in 10 months is far from unattainable but you'd have to start immediately and not wait until you get banded. You don't have to go and starve yourself to do it either. Document everything you eat; try not to drink anything except water; drink at least 90 ounces of Water a day (about 5 half liter bottles); keep calorie intake between 1,500 and 2,000; take a stroll around the block once in a while and you'll lose 3 pounds a week. Throw in 3 or 4 days of exercising for and hour and you can up that to 4-5 pounds a week. If you have $200 to spare, check out the Bodybugg. It will tell you how many calories you are burning and you can log your meals on their site. They also have plenty of useful reference. BODYBUGG :: WELCOME

    Total weight loss

I started counting when I had my first consultation with my surgeon on September 18th. I haven't been banded yet but I also didn't think it was very productive to wait to be banded to start losing weight. I still haven't decided whether I will restart my ticker when I get banded or leave 365 as my starting weight.

GAINED WEIGHT on PRE OPT DIET

It has to be water weight because 7 HC meals and 28 shakes can't weigh much more than 10 lbs.

    Help with research?

#1 Has he ever killed a patient! - If the answer is not 0, RUN!!! #2 How many lapband surgeries has he performed? - If the answer is 0, RUN!!! #3 Make sure his office is close. You will be visiting a lot over the next year. These are the 3 main things I considered when choosing a Surgeon. I went with the first one I looked up because he fit all of the above criteria.
  7. It is overestimating how many calories I am burning. Therefore, it is telling me that I am eating 200 more than I actually am. It's a small thing but I take it personally and feel like the computer is calling me a liar. I leave the watch thing in my car and look at it maybe twice a week. It is kind of useless to me. I get what I need when I upload.
  8. Mine overestimates a little but everyone is different and no device will ever be right on. I can tell it is overestimating because I am obsessive about logging everything I eat and it tells me that I am eating 200 calories more a day than I "know" I am. It is still, by far the best investment I have ever made as far as losing weight goes.

    slowing loosing

Having the band and getting fills don't make you lose weight. It is how many calories you are eating and how many calories you are burning. Are you logging what you eat? That is a start and it really helps. Use this calculator to find your Body Mass Ratio (BMR) BMR Calculator Your BMR is how many calories you burn with no activities. To lose 2 pounds a week, you want to eat 1,000 calories less than your BMR every day. 500 calories less for 1 pound a week.

    Biggest Loser 2010

I thought this season was ok. The guys losing 200+ pounds made it worthwhile. I don't know if I am being a misogynist or not but I wish they'd stop having people under 300 pounds. I don't think they have enough to lose to make it interesting. 15 minutes is about all I spend watching too. 10 minutes for the competition and another 5 for the weigh in. I can't believe they have made it this long without killing somebody. I know I'd die if I worked that hard.
  14. Hopefully she read the rest of the comments in this thread and the IHFT thread. She should have known she was opening a can of worms.

    Couch to Marathon, join me?

Which came first the chicken or the egg? Did you look for endurance first in being able to walk a long way or did you look for speed and then start making it longer and longer?

    Not Confident Enough

TN, Have you been to the gym? There are plenty of fat idiots. Especially around this time of year and everyone making New Years resolutions that never last. You don't need some kind of stressful work out routine that you are going to hate and stop doing after a while. The WII Fit sounds like a great way to start and then throw in a little walking.
  17. HB, I am usually the one that is playing devil's advocate and cutting against the grain but of the 10 or so of us that saw the original post, you are the only one that saw anything constructive in it. I wouldn't feel the same way if the OP at least included herself while pointing out the problem with fat people. After losing 19 lbs she was up on a pedestal declaring herself better than fat people.

    Tricare in Texas

Sorry, I don't have Tricare but I can tell you that the bariatric surgeon I went to in Colleyville (Dr David Kim) was able to answer all of my insurance questions before I even contacted Aetna. There are quite a few in the area. You can call around and ask them if they accept Tricare and what the specifics are.
  19. "I hate fat people" started with the OP trying to come to terms with his on self hatred. The OP of this thread was on a pedestal ridiculing fatties. They are not the same. Although, there are some idiots that posted to IHFP with hateful crap.
  20. She said that fat people are dirty, disgusting, don't shower, don't wipe our asses right and don't wash our hands after going to the bathroom. Did I miss anything guys?
  21. Most insurance companies will approve because you have high blood pressure. The rule is usually a BMI of 40 or a BMI of 35 and co-morbidities. Hypertension is a co-morbidity.
  22. I think he is referring to your self-loathing.
  23. You generalize about fat people being dirty and eating like slobs. Skinny people and average build people can be just as dirty and disgusting. Why would you hold this just against fat people? As for getting healthier; they are either content as they are; have tried to get healthy and given up; have medical problems that keep them from losing weight or don't realize what they are doing to themselves. I won't judge them as long as they are using my tax dollar to maintain their girth.
  24. I personally am offended by your comments but everyone has a right to their opinion. No matter how asinine it is. Being fat, I probably shower more than the average person because god knows I sweat a lot more. Nor have I ever been told that I stink. You can't assume that all of us have poor hygiene because you do or did.

    Health Care

lifenews.com is an anti-choice, xtian rag. You can't quote their numbers and expect them to be true. I personally think abortion is the only healthcare that my tax dollar should be spent on.
