We were taught to always say Grace before we ate..something I would have done well to observe. I have found that if I truly give a problem to G-d, that He solves it for me...including the food. I am not denying HIs ability by getting a band, I am doing my part in the rpocess: cutting off theat which offends....I have not been willing to give this problem to Him and allow Him to dictate when and what I would eat... That is the curse. I am hoping to employ a greater tool now to assist my will: the band will slow me down, and will remind me that I have a problem that needs attention. Am I lying to myself? I surely hope this is one of the benefits of the band...It is difficult with the band to forget that I have taken action to restrict my eating. I am about to go to my first consultation meeting in 48 hours...I was gung-ho about the lap band after the seminar, but then I went on you tube and saw a bunch of videos about how the lap band did not work for people...and they went with bariatric, etc. I did not watch the videos but only saw there were alot of them there. I am a little worried about the fact that most of what I have binged on and liked over the 20 years I have been this heavy, are soft foods, like ice cream and dairy products and cheese and such. I am watching what I eat and find that I do not eat very many things I have to chew...isn't this an odd realization??? (Being facetious.) I started thinking maybe I need to ask the doctor about sleeve gastrectomy, since I am going to be 64 in Dec and once I am 65 Medicare (which I will be forced onto) absolutely never covers any type of bariatric surgery other than the lap band. Any ideas about this? Abd please tell me someone something of the types of food you eat now with the band...are they all to be chewable foods, pretty much? That's OK I just would like to know.

  4. I have finally decided to look into bariatric surgery....I weighed 296 in 1998; went to a weight loss clinic and lost 120 lbs, but within two years it all came back on....I have tried and tried since then, but currently weight my all-time high of 325. I am scareed about the powerlessness I feel the last six months..have never ever felt this out of control..and completely unable to curb my appetite. I am so heavy (5"8") and BMI of 49. the doctor won't give me diet pills anymore because it could hurt my heart. I am 63 and am pretty resigned to Water aerobics and that's about all I can do...the rest of the day on the computer...no social life left at all. husband quietly enraged, but loves me and is very good in spite of his anger at me. he understands but it still makes him angry that I cannot get more "willpower." He smokes. so he understands how hard it is. BUt I want to do this because I truly no longer am the same person I was even 50 lbs ago...cannot walk very well, etc. tired easily.
