  1. Yippee! Another 4 pounds gone this week.
  2. Please don't be discouraged. Everyone has a different situation. You may drop lots of pounds when you don't expect it. Do what your doctor says and it will get better. Are you walking or doing any exercise? Lapband is not as fast as gastric bypass. It's a slower and safer way of losing weight. When you first get your band, there is no restriction except what is in the band itself. As you get your fills, things will change. Hang in there.
  3. Let me be the first to congratulate you! Glad you are home and it's over...at least the hardest part. Make sure you get plently of rest and allow for good healing time. Don't eat anything you aren't suppose too. Your journey has begun!
  4. What is Muscle Milk and where do you buy it?
  5. Support group is on the 19th...third Saturday. Hope to see you there. Would love to meet all of you.
  6. I read all the previous posts in this thread. I can't imagine WHY anyone would pay the amount we pay for surgery, go thru surgery, pain, have scars, etc. etc and then talk about CHEATING! My goodness, I feel so fortunate to be able to even have the surgery at all. I was told in New Orleans that I was too old for it and I thought I would die a fat old lady someday. We retired and moved home to Alabama. Shortly after doing that, my health started falling apart on me. I was rushing to the end of my life as my doctor said. He suggested the Lapband for me and when he did, I started crying I was so happy. Now, I have a chance to live a long life, a healthier life and a skinnier life. NO WAY, am I going to goof it up now! I'll eat and drink exactly what my book of directions says. I'm not gambling and playing around with all of this journey. I plan to win!
  7. My doctor said to walk, walk, walk. The problem I have is that I have bad legs and walking is hard to do right now. So I walk as far as I can, rest, and start all over again. Better than nothing, I hope.
  8. I am a new bander as of 8/11/09. On Mondays, I quilt at my local church with a bunch of wonderful cooks that bring food for lunch. At 11:00 a.m., we stop quilting and eat together. Some of the husbands join us also. The main thing I am most proud of is I was able to eat my protein (fish) and I didn't drool over all of the other food. I was satisfied and happy with what I had for myself. That is a huge step forward for me. You don't know what great cooks these ladies are.....
  9. Go to GNC store and buy some Isopure drinks. They are high in protein. Can you travel with a small one-serving blender (Hamilton Beach has one)? If you can, you could make your morning shake or night shake right in your room. The main thing you want to remember is to get in your protein and your water each day. Good luck.
  10. Well, if you are losing your mind, it's okay because my mind is probably following along with yours. Some days I seem to be completely lost. Hope to meet you ate group in September.
  11. I'm sorry. I resolved the problem during the night after asking the questions. Go figure.... I deleted it since it was resolved...thank goodness. I am feeling so much better today. Now, maybe I can get on with my lapband journey.
  12. I was allowed the Matrix Vanilla Protein Powder with milk when I went on the full-liquids diet on day 4 post-op. This is a great recipe for a shake that tastes just like a Reese's Peanut Butter cup. 1/2 cup fat-free milk 1 cup crushed ice 1 scoop of vanilla Protein Mix 1 pk of Sugar free Swiss Miss Chocolate Mix 1 Tablespoon of Creamy peanut butter 3 pkgs of Splenda Mix everything well in blender and enjoy. I didn't need the Splenda..it was sweet enough for me already.
  13. I certainly hope that I don't lose my close friend. Four years she was weighting almost four hundred lbs and is now at 142 lbs after having the surgery. I was there for her then and so far, she is with me. All my other friends/family seem to be very supportive. My church friends that I am closest too, all have a daughter or niece that has had it done, so they are being supportive to us all. You have to decide who are really friends and who are people that you interact with according to the circumstances of the moment. Not all people that you interact with on a daily basis is a real friend......
  14. I love the cream of chicken the most. However, New England clam chowder isn't bad for a break every now & again but you have to run it thru the blender to get the chunks out. You could make your own potato soup, you know.
  15. By all means, at least, call your doctor's office and inform them of the problem. You don't want to take even a ting little chance when a phone call might be enough. As for sleeping, everyone responds differently to anesthesia and your body may be having a little trouble shaking it off this time. Now stop reading and go make that call please!
  16. I hope you don't have the swine flu that is hitting th schools right now. Please take care of yourself. We all need our advisor on here right now. Drink lots of chicken noodle soup...it really does work.
  17. Yippee, Jason. I agree with Busdriver...can't wait until I'm where you are now. I have stopped worrying about my band. I know that I have some good support people on here and when needed, all of you will help. I say that mantra to myself at least three times a day. I'll check on the clothes swap. Thanks.
  18. Banded on 8/11 and am doing well with my liquids.. Moved to soft diet yesterday. My doctor says NO ORANGE juice or any fibrous juices/fruits right now. I do have to make a effort to eat slower with smaller bites but I think I can do that. I am having a severe breathing problem from my COPD/Asthma and have been coughing myself into a weakened state. It is a effort to eat what I am allowed, much less to even think about cheating. I have lost weight and that is wonderful but I sure wish this coughing and poor breathing would clear up.
  19. My goodness. You are now my inspiration person. Whenever, I feel down, I'll just pull up this post. I am newly banded and have just started my journey but I hope that in 5 years, I too will be posting some wonderful pictures. Thanks so much for sharing with us. I bet your hubby is a happy man too. Did you have any loose skin surgeries?
  20. I haven't even had my first fill but my doctor says to go back on liquids for 24 hours. Call your doctor just to be on the safe side.
  21. I was banded on 8/11 also. I had severe pains between my breasts, under the ribs and moved up into my neck all on the left side. When I called my surgeon, he sent out a med pack, told me to use Gas-X and to walk as much as possible. Said it was probably due to excessive swelling in the post side. It did get better but not for at least 3-4 days later. I am still sleeping in my chair b/c I have developed a cough and I can breathe easier in it.
  22. If this is your family members, then sit them down and let them read your diet directions. If it's other people, consider the source and let it go. It's none of their business what you eat.
  23. My PCP changed my meds that were larger than a M&M per the surgeons directions. You could get a pill cutter and/or a pill crusher. Some meds aren't designed to be cut up or crushed however, so it's best to consult with your PCP or your pharmacy.
  24. Oh, that is wonderful news! The time will pass faster than you think. In the meantime, buy all the liquids that you are allowed, re-read everything you have already learned, and get ready for the new journey of your life. I am 67 yrs old, live in Alabama and because I had Medicare, I was required to stay overnight, so be prepared. Make sure you get up to walk as soon as you can at the hospital and then at home. It really helps with the gas. Good luck and keep us informed. You're going to love your band...maybe not right away...but soon.
  25. I am so sorry that you have had to deal with all this infection, Erywn. Unfortunately, there are doctors that are so concerned with the money side of situations. Surgeons are famous for being really nice on pre-op visits and being complete jerks post-op. However, you need to remember that you are the one paying the bill and they are not Gods. You really need to address this problem with your own surgeon and in the future you need to refuse to see the partner. You need to let your doctor know all about his partner's attitude towards you. If he is like that all the time, it will hurt their paractice sooner or later. Ask him if he thinks you will be willing to recommed his practice to someone else. Stand up for yourself. It's your money and maybe your life....just think what could have happened if that infection spread all over your body. Oh, by the way, your friend is completely out of line with her advice. It isn't in her nurse practice laws and she could lose her license over it. She should know better! Shame on her. I would never offer medical advice to others...I worked to hard for my license.
