2.5 Weeks post op
I was told that while I was healing, walking was the main exercise to do. No lifting or vacumning either. No swimming for 6 weeks. Hope this helps.

giving hope
Congrats on feeling better. I was banded 8/11 and I'm doing well with the exception of some lingering gas once in awhile. I too am on a soft diet until Monday. It isn't too bad. I am trying to be more concerned with improving my bad habits than always thinking about food. I have the motto that some others have: I eat to live...not live to eat. I refuse to let food be my controller any longer!

Banded 9/2..feeling good, but have a slight fever..???
I had a little problem after surgery and my doctor put me on a med-pack. Fine now. Call your doctor and ask about some antibiotics.

Will I get my first fill????
My daughter had surgery two years ago and she said that for a whole year, the gas would come & go. Just when she thought it was over for good, it would come back. I just know it is a miserable feeling! BTW, thank your hubby for me for serving his country and tell him that I for one appreciate his service. Good Bless him & all our troops wherever they are.

I was involved in a car accident, which caused my band to slip! Please Read!
I'm happy to hear that you are alright. Thanks goodness for your doctor. Thanks for posting this thread. You never know when it will come in handy for someone.

Will I get my first fill????
I am hoping that I get a fill on 9/23 too. So far, I've lost 26.1 lbs but I don't have much of a restriction at all. Sometimes at night, I am tight but not much. The gas is killing me tonight. Guess I shouldn't have eaten that tuna.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Hey, anyone tried the Muscle Milk and the Unjury Protein Powder? I am using the Matrix from the hospital but thought I would try others to see if they are better.
-
Shakes? Yech! Anyone else?
I use vanilla Matrix that my doctor recommended. It's okay and I can mix other flavors in it. I am going to try the muscle milk that someone mentioned on another thread.

Is this normal??
I was banded on 8/11 and I had the same problems you are having. I didn't take any pain meds at all as I have a high threshold for pain. My nurse said to walk, walk, and use gas-X. It finally got better about a week later. The only problem I have now is that my tummy itches all the time! Hang in there. You will be alright.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Thanks Shawna: I've been reading old posts and according to them, I am suppose to be in "Bandster's Hell" with no restrictions and might gain instead of losing. Well, so far, I am losing, I do feel some restriction at times, and I am thankful for it. I hope to meet you at group on the 19th.

Stomach gurgling in the middle of the night!
I know what you mean. Mine sounds like an orchestra sometimes. I sure hope it doesn't do this in the middle of church one week!
-
One meal at a time...
Yippee! You managed to beat that mean old craving. Good for you. I know it isn't easy.

Restriction is finally here

worried band is not working :(
A better choice than bread would have been a protein shake. You probably haven't damaged your band but you do need to be careful about what you are eating/drinking right now. You need to let your site heal. Bread is hard on some people that have been out longer than you, some never have it again. A good rule to remember now is that your stoma is about the size of a dime and food has to pass thru it. Oh another good thing to remember....chew, chew, chew

Band rules you consistently 'break'?
Melinda_205: Get rid of the Dt Mtn Dew. It is carbonated. It will stretch your pouch and you'll have slippage. If you have to have caffeine, drink Tea.
-
Discouraged
You are right on target. Are you getting in your protein FIRST? That will help fight the hunger. As for the other people, don't let them put you down. Explain that this is a tool for weight loss not a magic wand. Tell them that you have a long long way to go and you'll let them know how much weight you have lost when you're ready to tell it. Please don't give up....you can do it.

no food since august 4th-not losing!!!
Lisa: I too started this process in Dec2008. I am very happy to have made this decision. I think it may save my life or at least increase it. Good luck.

HELP! Is this normal?
Drink something warm. It should go away. If not, call your doctor.

Happy Loser
BethL: I am still on the soft diet following surgery. Doing great with it. Looking forward to regular food next week. I haven't cheated once and don't intend too. My health took a turn for the worse in late 2008 and I was given this chance for a healthier life style with this tool. I don't intend to ruin it in any way. So, I sticking to all my doctor's rules. I plan to see at least 100 years old and to be skinner too!

Help Needed from Banders!
You are right on track. Everything you mentioned is normal. Lots of burping and gurgling sounds. My appetite has just begun to come back. I had to make myself drink my 2 oz of shake and drink my water. Make sure you get as much rest as you can also. You know you have to have healing time.

Restriction is finally here
I am using this time to "teach" myself to slow down, take smaller bites, not to gulp, use a smaller plate/fork/etc. and mainly NOT to drink anything with my meals. Maybe when I get restriction, I'll be ready. I too don't plan on having PBs, vomitting, or anything else, if I can help it.

Burp!
I would love to stop burping! I hate to do it out in public. Between the burping and the stomach growling...I sound like a lion sometimes.

How do You do Eating Out?
I haven't eaten out as yet but Chinese is my all time favorite. I have been thinking about what I will do since my place is a buffet. I think I will stick to the Hot & Sour soup and be happy. I don't think it will be possible to count every little carb, Protein, fat, sugar, etc that you put into your mouth. Use common sense and do what you did. Eat your allowed amount and leave the rest or take it home for someone else in the family.

Happy Loser
Surgery on 8/11/09. To date, I have lost 26.1 pounds! I, never in my life, no matter what diet I was on, lost this much weight in such a short period of time. I know I will reach times that I don't lose on a regular basis but it is sweet now and I'm enjoying it.

Curious
I had surgery on 8/11/09. I have to say that this last day or two, I have finally say that I am feeling hungry. I have stayed on my clear liquids-full-liquids and am now on the soft diet faithfully. I can't afford to blow all of this over some food. I find that the creamed soups are very helpful in the food department, along with the Protein shakes. Yogurt is helpful too. Just try to find things to keep yourself busy w/o always thinking of what you can't have in food. Think about what the journey's end will bring you.
