  1. Tammy..

Wish I could say the Protein Shakes keep me full!! I think I am a muncher instead of a slurper:faint:I did put a couple of strawberries in a slimfast and whirled it in the blender and it seemed to improve the taste. Three pounds down of the five of the weight I was not supposed to gain. :help: I just keep repeating I know I can...I know I can!! I really admire the ladies that have their heads on straight to do the correct thing!!!

Slim Fast has never done much for me either. Are you using any Protein Powder? I am using Six Star whey Protein powder...I mix 2 scoops with 8oz of skim milk which gives me 49g of protein in each shake. More protein...more filling! I am not one to posess alot of will power so I have to believe the protein is really working. Yes you can do it...I KNOW YOU CAN!!! :thumb:

  2. I have been gimping through my pre-op. I've been told this is the toughest and now that I'm three days from surgery.. I BELIEVE IT! ARGH...

Don't know if y'all have heard of this but I've been drinking a non-flavored Water called Smart Water. They call it that because it's clear and tasteless, but it has electrolytes in it. I think it actually taste better than regular water and is 'more' filling if that is possible for water...

    T

It may have been hard, but the good thing is YOU DID IT (well almost...:biggrin1: ) Three more days and you are there! Never heard of smart water, but if it is more filling than regular water I am going to get me some! Anything that will make the pre-op diet a little easier is worth trying.

  3. Tammy, I'm supposed to have at least 100 gms of Protein per day while on liquids. Glad to hear that it will keep me full. I called my surgeon's nurse the other day asking if the Dr. usually prescribes appetite supressants during the liquid phase, and she gave me a little attitude. Then I felt silly for asking.

That is so funny. I thought about asking my dr. if I can take phentermine to get me through the pre-op diet, but I was afraid he might think I'm a wimp. I'm glad I didn't ask. :paranoid

Besides, I think we'll do fine without it. :thumb:

  4. We aren't trying to start a discussion on what religion is best. We were just stating that our beliefs are "Other" and we started our own thread for it.

Our spiritual beliefs make up who we are, and I don't want to feel like I'm not welcome here because I am not Christian. I'm still a March Bandster, and I think that is what should be important here

Thanks for clarifying that. I don't know what made you feel like you weren't welcome here. I wasn't aware that religion was an even an issue on this thread. We are March bandsters and I hope we can all be of support to each other next month when we are all banded.

  5. Well, I start my pre-op diet tomorrow - consisting of Low Carb Slim Fast, and Medifast Soups, puddings, and drinks. Surgery is on the 5th. I'll then be doing 1 week high Protein liquids after surgery. The 4 weeks pureed, 2 weeks soft, then regular food. I've made some homemade turkey, beef, and chicken broths and put them in the freezer. They will be much healthier and lower sodium than canned broth. I can truly say I'm ready to start this journey!!

Best wishes to all of you re: your pre-op dieting and upcomming surgeries!!

I have to start full liquids this Thursday. I have been on a semi-liquid diet for the past 6 days and I am doing fairly well. The Protein Shakes keep me full for a long time. Let us know how you're doing! Knowing that others are going through it is motivation for me. Good Luck!

  6. Hi March bandsters, I too am a March bandster the 14th is my date in Albany NY with Dr.Singh. I started at 218lbs 5ft 0in (42BMI) I am currently (aprox) 195. my personal goal is 140. However my IBW is 95-116lbs. Best of luck to all.

    Congratulations and Welcome x-ray chic!!!!!!!

  7. Alas, I was turned down by my insurance company - apparently, my BMI is too high for their criteria for LB; they claim it's not clinically proven to be valuable at my size (BMI 58, I think). It's slightly disastrous, because my surgery was scheduled for 3/15, and I've arranged my work schedule around that date (very difficult to do, high stress profession blah blah blah). And the surgical coordinator is away until 2/28 - I should be starting the preop liquid diet the next day.

    Wah.

So now what do I do? I have Empire BC/BS, and am going with Dr. Fielding at NYU in NYC...

I am really sorry to hear that. I really wouldn't know what do next, but I hope you can get everything resolved quickly. Let us know what happens!

  8. Hey ThickChick, We've missed you around here. Your date is coming up soon and I know you're excited!

:welcome: momlambert, You are definitely a special lady! (10 kids...WOW!) You deserve this and more. We all worry about whether this procedure will work for us. I am so afraid that I'll be one of the ones who won't lose any weight or who struggles at losing it, but I will not be satisfied unless I try this. What is SUCCESS you say...that is a very good question. For me it does not have to be reaching my goal (although it would be nice), but for me it is to stop this constant yo-yo'ing and getting to a comfortable weight that I can maintain whether it be 220, 200 or 175. I love that Slim Fast commercial that says find your SLIM! Good Luck to You and keep us posted!

Scarlett, thanks so much because I have really been trying. I went through that eating everything phase for about a month and it will subside and if not, that's the reason we're having surgery! :biggrin1: I hope the band helps with binge eating because that is definitely one of my problems. The band and proper restriction is supposed to prevent us from over doing it.

  9. TGIF!

I woke up hungry, but proud of yesterday

I actually packed some LC foods for myself today....

I always start my day with coffee and SF creamer

    B - 1 hb egg

B - Dill Pickle (It was big fat and crunchy!) 2 carbs, 10 cal

B - 2 slices of thin sliced deli ham (10 slices equal 1 carb)

(NOTE: both are higher in sodium, but if I down Water it should wash it out)

    Sn - Protien shake

    lunch - Deli Ham

    - Hunk of Sharp Cheddar

    - 1 hb egg

    sn - Protien shake

dinner - God HELP ME... it's Buffet night (we pick up dbf's kids and go to the local buffet restraunt)

I am really tempted to stay home....... I am being 100% honest with you all... this is gonna be hard.

I think you'll be okay if you go. I actually prefer going to buffets rather than regular restaurants when on a low carb diet because they usually have plenty of low carb options. Going to a buffet is on my schedule this weekend...but I will be eating low carb. I am still going to have my steak and crab legs before starting full liquids next Thursday!

Also, If you do go have a Protein shake before going so you don't overdo it.

  11. hey girlies... it's 8:17 p.m. and I'm on the home stretch for day one!!!!

Yippee for me..... I did have maybe a bit to much dinner, but dang it.. its the best choice of dinner that I've had for a LONG, LONG, LONG time!

I made the tuna patties and had 15 multigrain crackers to go with it... about 27 carbs for the crackers... (I should of only ate 5, but each serving were 9 carbs. Overall I'm very proud, and ready for day two...

You should be proud!!! When I eat my meal, I am having more than I should have, but I still feel good about the choices I am making. Baby steps...! You did great yesterday! Keep going...Don't Stop!!! :biggrin1:

  12. Hello All!

This preop diet is driving me nuts. I started it last thursday. First couple of days were nerve wracking and then Sunday I think I had a mini nervous breakdown. I knew I was starving to death, didn't want to have the surgery, really wanted to eat ... everything..., it won't work anyway, everything I could imagine ran through my head. Mon. was a whole new ballgame though. I feel better. I just needed to regroup. The diet is going well, it's not really all that restrictive. I think most of my woes were stress related. Anyway I think I'm back from crazy land. 1 more week to go. I did get my surgery date today. March 2nd. It's OFFICIAL !!!

Congratulations on getting your official date!!! Sounds like you finally got the hang of the pre-op stuff. I am the same way, if I am not mentally prepared I usually fail every diet I try. Keep going you are doing great! :)

  13. Oh and I forgot to mention how after all the appointments I had this week how unprepared I still feel for surgery day! I didn't even see my surgeon, I saw him once in Sept, then maybe I'll see him before he does the surgery if he comes to talk to me before they knock me out. I asked the nurse where I'm supposed to go in the hospital...she said just go inside and ask them where to go for my surgery...ok, well maybe it's just because it's a different type of surgery, or that I'm a lot older now than the last time I had a surgery of any type, but the last time....my doctor told me every little detail from what entrance I go in, where the desk is...to where I park... UGH, maybe that's the difference in care from a 20 year old to a 29 year old...I don't know...because I'm 29 am I supposed to be more mature about all of this and not freaking out??? Am I the only one freaking out this badly?? The last couple hours I've been reading through posts taking notes on surgery day stuff so I can maybe feel a little more prepared. Did I mention they didn't say anything about when I'm supposed to stop eating the day before? I think when I had my appointment back in September they might have said something about no eating after midnight....but can I drink Water? ? I doubt that too. I'm just going to have to call them with 800 more questions I suppose. I even kinda feel stupid for having so many questions. UGH. I talked with a lady I work with tonight who was banded two years ago...she is so tiny now...maybe a size 6. She is so excited for me, I got her phone number too in case I have a (more) serious meltdown.

I'm doing the right thing. I'm doing the right thing. I'm doing the right thing.

(((Hugs))) You are doing the right thing!!! You deserve to look and feel your best and I applaud you for making this very difficult decision. You will be glad you did! You need to feel at ease the day of your surgery so yes, call your surgeon's office, ask those questions. They should be more than willing to answer them. I haven't begun to freak out yet since I still have another 3 weeks, but it is normal to have those feelings. Don't worry, your surgery is going to be a success, you will have a fast recovery and will lose the weight you want to lose! :)

  14. I am 11 days in on this pre-op diet of mine....:faint: only had one give in and that was on Tuesday made it till the gang went to happy hour and then I had 5 cranberry and vodkas. ( over a long time) but only 3 chips (we were at a Mexican food place). Had chicken fajitas with veggies and skipped the tortillas!! Yea for me!!

tammyj I think the whey Protein drinks are keeping me going to!! I use the Jay Robbs with skim milk and they smell and taste good!!! (to me anyway my DH has even been drinking them---I hope DH means husband, still trying to get the lingo down:nervous )

Anyway just need a little support because I am getting really nervous:o . I am only 11 days away!! I am about to cry as I write this:think . I know it's just all those old messages in my head that this won't work either or you won't be able to do this and this is the easy way blah blah blah blah blah!!

I need some words of wisdom, cause I am going to get through this.

    Glogirl,

I don't know how much wisdom I can give you, but just think how great you are going to look and feel a year from now, 6 months from now, heck even 1 month from now! That always keeps me going. You are going to do great!!!

  15. I am on my second week of pre-op diet. The doctors are going back and forth about if they will do the surgery they want me to lose more weight. I have lost 15 pounds so far this month my surgery is scheduled for March2. I have to call in every morning with my weight I guess to make sure I lose every day. plus I have the flue and feel rotten.

I guess I am just having a bad week. My 17 year old moved out last night and said he is moving in with a friend from school.

I feel ready to just forget the whole thing. My husband is a wonderful man and has never complained about my weight and has always been supportive, but he thinks that the band will fail like all the times I have tried to lose weight. Anyway thanks for letting me sound off

I think 15lbs in 22 days is awesome!!! How much are they expecting you to lose? Keep your head up and don't give up!!!

  16. TammyJ: just so you know..

    I'M HUNGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to drink a glass of Water and re-evaluate!

edited: OK.. I just ate my 2nd hard boiled egg and filled my water glass, and the momentary hunger pain subsided......

Day ONE has got to be the hardest!

Surprisingly, I am not hungry! Not at all...not even on the first day! The whey Protein Shakes are really filling...or maybe I'm just trying to make myself believe that. Either way it is working! :clap2:

  17. Tammy: I have to tell you that BECAUSE of you... I brought 2 4packs of EAS Carb Control Protein drinks to work with me today AND 2 HB eggs!

I'm going to do what you are doing... 2 protein drinks and 1 lower carb meal.......... so even though I dont know you.. YOU WERE IN MY HEAD this morning!

Thanks alot Tracy! That makes me feel really good. There are a few people on this forum that motivated me to get started too. That's what we are here for...encouragement and support! Keep it up Tracy and you will be 25lbs lighter (or more) by the time you are banded. Now, I'm gonna go boil me a couple of eggs!:biggrin1:

  18. Hello again to everyone. My surgery is scheduled for March 12th. I am to start my pre-op diet on March 2nd. 10 days of liquids/liquid Protein. I have not been very fond of any of the Protein Drinks out there. The shakes are nasty and too sweet... If I can smell the vitamin/iron in the the stuff, it gags me.. even worse when I can taste it.... I even went and bought some of the non flavored Unjury protein... unflavored...yes, but still smells and taste like vitamins..... uuuggghh!! The only drink I have found that I can even tolerate, not sure about for 10 straight days though, is the Isopure zero carb drinks.. they have a variety of fruit flavored drinks... like a juice/koolaid type drink already premixed in glass bottles... they have 40g of protein and my dr only requires 20 per day... I am so nervous about surgery itself and if I am unable to follow the pre-op just right, I am a fraid I will not shrink my liver appropriately for the surgery and cause a problem.... I know that this is why we have the 10 day pre-op diet... it has been explained to me .... I understadn the importancve, but I also have no will power and I too have been planning multitudes of last suppers......... not even hungry but I act like I am.

I don't think you really need "protein" drinks if your daily requirement is only 20g a day (which seems really low). Like Magnolia said maybe try the Slim Fast Optima or Carnation Instant Breakfast. Skim milk alone has 8g of protein per serving so 3 a day would fulfill your requirement. I have to have 40-50g of protein a day and I will say, the extra protein is keeping me fuller longer and keeps my energy up and you're going to need that during the pre-op and post-op phase. Keep us posted and let us know how you are doing. :)

  19. Hello Everyone. I am actually a feb 27th banster and thought that if y'all didn't mind, after my surgery I could give you a 'blow by blow' account since y'all all are up next. It's kind of neat to be at the end of the month 'cause I have everyone elses stuff to read so I thought I could pass on mine too.

I'm about 5 days pre and I'm excited, scared, happy anxious. I'm afraid the day before I may be in tears all day. I'm having trouble picturing that I will ever be under 300 little long 200. weird weird weird. It's very surreal right now.

    thanks,

    Tracy

    Hi Tracy,

That would be great! I have been checking back and forth w/ the February bandsters just to see how everyone's doing. It's a bit scary hearing about the after surgery pains and problems with sleeping, but it is to be expected. It is also giving me some idea as to what's normal and what's not normal after surgery. I ran out and got one of those bed/tv pillows (I forget who posted the picture of it) since I don't have a recliner at home. I had gallbladder surgery about 10 years ago and I remember it being very uncomfortable to lay flat and very difficult to pull up from that position so I thought the bed pillow was a great idea. I am looking forward to hearing about your surgery. Good Luck to You and Keep us Posted! :biggrin1:
