    I AM FINALLY BANDED!!!!!!!

The day of my surgery went very smoothly. I got to the hospital right at 8:30am. Within 5 minutes of sitting down in the waiting room they called me back to get started. At least 10 different people came in and out my room to ask questions or just to introduce themselves and let me know they will be in the operating room. Everyone was so nice and attentive and made me feel at ease. By 10:30, I was in the operating room. By 11:45, I was in recovery and was taken up to my room around 1:00pm. I wasn't allowed anything to eat or drink the first day, not even water so I was quite parched. The only thing I could do was wipe the inside of my mouth with a wet swab. Every couple hours I got up to walk for 10-15 minutes around my room for the rest of the evening. The next morning around 8:30 I was taken to X-ray to drink the barium to make sure that everything was flowing okay. Finally around noon, after receiving the x-ray results I was brought a food tray with broth, jello, tea, apple juice, cranberry juice, a popsicle, and a pitcher of ice water. I ate/drank all the broth...which was delicious, had a spoonful of jello, drank the cranberry juice and drank 2 cups of water. I had no problems drinking at all. The nutritionist came to my room to visit and told me that she watched my entire surgery from a window. I said, "You're kidding!" I thought that was really cool! This is day 2 post-op and I am feeling REALLY, REALLY good! I am really surprised. I slept very well last night. I slept propped up on my bed/tv pillow and used several other pillows to support my back and my legs and I was very comfortable. No real pains to speak of. Still very gassy, but no trapped gas...it's coming out both ends quite often. I am so glad I did this!!!!!!!!!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

alaverde, hang in there!!! Treat yourself to another meal then get back on liquids. The 29th will be here before you know it! Kyethra, I hope you are feeling better today! Karen, my prayers go out to you and your Dad and I hope you are feeling better today! Rowdy, I've had that nasty taste in my mouth and horrible breath even before I had surgery. It started shortly after starting the pre-op diet. I agree with Machele, I think it does have something to do with ketosis, and it's supposed to clear up when we return to regular food. Glogirl, I think a cup of food is good. It doesn't sound like you over did it. Good Luck on Monday!!! Can't wait to start reading about everyone's fills! :welcome2: Medge and stacy16!!!!! I feel very sad and angry myself sometimes, but I know I've made the right decision. It is just going to take some time to adjust and to get my emotions in check. Yes, it will pass! chatgirl6, Have a safe trip and a complication free surgery! Can't wait to hear from you! I hope everyone is doing well and Congratulations to all those newly banded!!!!

To clarify, this is what my post-op instructions say when moving on to mushies. I assume because before we have proper restriction we may be able to tolerate more than this, but 3/4 cup of food should be my max. So far, I've only received post-op instructions, but I did receive a card to carry in my wallet that says this person can only eat 1/4 cup or 2oz of food at a time. I am assuming this will be after proper restriction is acheived. Above all, we should follow our Dr's orders.

:welcomeB: jono201!!!!!!! As long as you get the right amount of protein you should not be hungry. You may still crave certain foods, but it won't be because you are hungry. It's more head hunger than anything. Good Luck To You!!!!

Scarlett, are you eating real foods already? I was banded on the 15th as well and I am still on liquids. I have an appt w/ my surgeon next Monday and will graduate to mushies next week. I know everyone's post-op instructions are different, but it seems everyone is moving on to solid foods so quickly.

I'm feeling alot better this morning. I thought I was feeling good enough to stop taking my pain meds yesterday too, but after going for a short walk around the neighborhood I was in alot of pain. I took my pain meds again last night and slept like a baby. I am glad your nauseau is gone. Take it easy at work today!

:welcomeB: Rockn4u and Good Luck with your surgery!!! I was also allowed 2-3oz of lean meat a day. It doesn't sound like much, but that half a can of tuna or half of a chicken breast was a real treat and I looked forward to it everyday. See if your nutritionist will allow this. I know it its hard, but hang in there and let us know how you're doing.

How are you doing Scarlett??? I know we were both banded on the same day. I haven't weighed myself since surgery. I have to go to group support meetings ever Tuesday so I am going to wait until then. I am so afraid the scale will dissapoint me. That has always been my downfall when dieting.

I agree, that is so good to hear! My surgeons head nurse was banded in April 06 and has lost 100lbs already. She was with me the whole time on the day of my surgery and really put my mind at ease. She was also banded by the surgeon she works for.

I am feeling really good!!! I was very nervous myself, but I am so glad I did this! Don't worry...You are going to do GREAT! It also makes me feel good that people like you in the healthcare field are having this procedure done as well. We all have made a great decision in being banded!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I am sorry to hear that Cindy! I was banded on the 15th as well. Walking really helps get rid of the gas. I just walk around my bedroom or livingroom for about 10 minutes 2-3 times a day and it has really helped. Keep moving and you will feel alot better!

I'm only 3 days post-op myself so I probably won't be able to help you much, but if your meds are making you feel icky you may need to call your Dr. They may be able to change your meds. You also may be able to stop taking them. I was only told to take my pain meds when needed. I am still on clear liquids so someone else may be able to answer your questions about liquids. Feel better soon and keep us posted!
