    Help Please

Hi! I had surgery the same day as you did. I went to Dr. 1 1/2 week post op and had lost 14lbs. Went back today for my 1st fill and had only lost 1 more.....the reason is "bandster hell" the period between surgery and your first fill where you have no restriction. I honestly felt like nothing had been done to me....so, you are not alone. Today for my first fill Dr. put in 5cc's...said that 2-3 remain in port/tube so only 2-3 would be in band...well, I could not swallow water (even one sip). I immediately threw up and it hurt really bad. So he came back in and took out about 2cc's...I instantly felt better. I just drank some chocolate milk and i can feel restriction!! Here's hoping that I have some restriction!! You will feel better after getting your first fill, but even then I have heard that it could take a couple of fills to feel restriction!! Good Luck!!
  2. Wow!! This thread took on a life of it's own!! I am LOVING these blogs!!
  3. I am feeling hungry...at least I think I am feeling hungry. I am not sure....it is "to me" a growly, rumbly sensation that makes me think it's hunger. I called my Dr. yesterday and they moved me to yogurt, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cottage cheese etc... I am only eating a small amount at a time about 1/4 cup and then I am feeling really full, but this feeling of fullness only lasts for a couple of hours and then I am hungry again. How do you know what the true feeling of hunger is...or is it just a feeling of my stomach settling or healing?? I hope this question does not come across as dumb

Sorry to butt in on your thread :frown: but i saw you guys were banded a day apart from me and I went for my follow up today....down 14.8, but I am bigger than both of you!! I am on solid food as of today and just told to be really careful, chew well and go slow! I also have a fill scheduled for Oct 15th....after begging!!
  5. How did they fill you? My Dr. may want to fill me at 2 weeks post-op but my incision, where the port is, has a nice scab over the entire thing. Also....followup appointment today. Can you think of any questions that you did not ask that you wish you did. Thanks!!:frown:
  6. Hi I was banded on 9/23....surgery went flawlessly as did recovery! I feel great 100% Walked 2 miles last night etc... My only concern is that I feel no restriction. I just ate a baked potato smashed up to mashed consistency and I stopped myself after about 1/2 of it, but not because I fel full.....just because I knew that was about all I should be eating. Is it ok to not feel restriction right now? I feel tight at night after exercise, but that is usually after eating dinner and an hour or so later, but other than that I pretty much feel noting at all. Thanks for your help!!
  7. Gina-the bloating will not last forever..mine did last for a week though. I was so bloated (i gained 10lbs when i got home from the hospital), i felt like something was wrong because i did not think a person could be this bloated. It finally went away...I lost the 10 gained + 8 more so far!! For the ticker just click on mine and it should take you there
  8. Thanks guys!! I was thinking it might be "bandster hell", but I thought it is too early. I was trying to be in denial....ha!! I go to my surgeon on Monday and we will see what he has to say. I know that I have no fill in my band right now as he doesn't fill at surgery. I am leaving for vacay on 10/23 and hoping to get a small fill before...he usually does one at 4 weeks!
  9. I was banded on the 23rd....I am at the mushy stage now and doing great. I also had 1 night in the hospital and thought day 2 was worse than day one....every day since then has been better and better!! My stomach is still badly bruised though!!
  10. I can't handle blended foods either...so my menu looks pretty much like the above one, but I was also able to add really soft flaky fish and I love sweet potatoes...I am still on mushy now. My sugeon is much more lenient than yours....I was banded on the 23rd!
  11. I would call!! I was on only liquids for the first week, but was so hungry that I called my Dr. and asked if I could add anything...they told me cream of wheat, oatmeal, mashed potatoes and that after a few days on them I can add flaky white fish mashed sweet potatoes etc.... II would def. call and ask. I understand the whole thing about being able to not give in right now, but I also think that some people heal faster than others and can tolerate things better....so why torture yourself.
  12. Gald to see I'm not alone!! My tummy does feel better now that I have been able to add some of the thicker liquids and some oatmeal etc... I am still TMI.....constipated and bloated!
  13. My surgeon required 1 night stay in the hospital. I was self pay so it was all included up to a 3 night stay. I was happy to stay the 1 night just to get the care and fluids etc... I had a private room and it was great!

    just got banded

i was banded on 9/23 and I feel HUGE too!! I am so bloated...I gained 10lbs right after surgery....now I am down that 10 plus another 5!! I still have major bloating though!
  15. I had surgery on the 23rd and no ovemnet as of yet...called Dr. today Spoke to the nurse and she said this is completely normal, but if uncomfortable (an I am) and bloted (yep, big time) then I can take 3tbsp of milk of magnesia and place a heating pad on my abdomen. I just took the MOM and I am going to drink some hot tea.
  16. :thumbup:I loved reading these stories pre-op so here goes!! Banded 9/23 Arrived at hospital at 8:30 am...waited in a holding area for an hour (was aggravated and getting scared) They brought me back into pre-op, I had to pee in a cup and they took blood. Soon, a really sweet nurse started and IV(ouch) and then gave me a shot of Lovenox (did not hurt or burn) in my stomach. The surgeon came by and said he was ahead of schedule and that I should not have had to wait and he was ready for me! The OR nurses came and introduced themselves and the anestheologist came and asked me a million questions. I have never had surgery before and was startig to get nervous....at some point my family came back to me while I was talking to all of the people. A nurse said something and I lost it....I broke down sobbing in the pre-op (I was scared). they then gave me a cocktail of wonderful calming drugs and told me to say goodbye to my fam and I would see them soon. I was wheeled into the OR...DR. was in there and asked me what time I go there...told him 8:30 and he was aggravated that they made me wait I moved onto the operating table and was told to breathe in deeply...2 breaths is all I remember! I woke un in recovery to a wonderful nurse (her name was Robyn also) First thing I said was "am I alive" she giggled said yes and that I was doing great! I was only in recovery 45-60 minutes and quickly went to my private room. I was alone in my room for about 20-30 minutes because my family was told I would be much longer in recovery. As soon as my mom and best friend (my hubby went home to walk the dogs because he was also told I would be longer in recovery) came into the room I asked to get up and walk and go pee! I was able to get up pretty easilly and walked down the hall. About an hour later the psychologist (she's part of the bariatric team) stopped in to see how I was doing and chatted with me and my family for a while. My nurse was great and so helpful, but really left me alone as much as I wanted! Night nurse came on...it was a guy...at first I was pancked, but soon learned to LOVE him!! He was AMAZING! The only thing I was allowed to have th 1st day was a sucky sponge with Water on it and I was just allowed to wet my mouth. I had brough some mouth moisturizing gel and it was a lifesaver. I didn't sleep at all and walked ALOT ALOT!! the next morning I was taken down for a barium swallow at about 8:00 (this was the only bad experience I had and it wasn't the barium it was the radiologist...he was an ass) Barium was just 2 sips and it went down fine! I went back to my room and there was a tray wth broth and water and Jello...a couple of bites and I was done. A couple of hours later (waiting for discharge) I got a popsicle...HEAVEN!!! The Dr. came in and the nutritionist..all clear to go home!! YAY!! I even walked out of the hospital!! NO wheelchair for me! Hope that helps someone!!

    Outpatient vs. Inpatient

My doctor requires an overnight stay...which I was ultimately grateful for! I was only in recovery for under an hour and then off to a private room! I had my family and best friend in there when I got there. I immediately got up and went to the bathroom and walked alot. I did not sleep in the hospital at all, but was glad to be there because my blood sugar was really high and even insulin wasn't bringing it down....

I am 4 days post op!! I feel fine no pain except some MAJOR bloating!! I don't think that you should or could lift anything very heavy after 1 week, but I do not feel like I have many restrictions right now!
