  1. I just went to my surgeons seminar last week ( I had already decided on him but went to the seminar with a friend) . Something I asked him was if we already know we want a tummy tuck prior to surgery does that make a difference as to where its placed. He said that the low profile ports just became available "Standard" ( I think that was the word he used) about 2 weeks ago , and that he would put in a low profile and put it in a good spot if i already knew i was going to have a tummy tuck. Mindy
  2. That's been my experience. There are some people I told thinking they would be very supportive of me (Namely my best friend of 20 yrs ) and she was probably one of the most negative people . So I wish I had not told her. I have no issue telling anyone. I feel I know everything about the band I can without being banded (thanks to this site) , So any questions anyone has I can answer w/confidence . And like you said it just benifits my case. Usually the people who have the most negative things to say are the ones that do not know what they are talking about, do not know enough about the band . Mindy
  3. I can tell you that since I am an "Open Book " kind of person , I am what I am and if you dont like it that's your issue, it never occured to me NOT to tell everyone close to me until reading other posts. BUT I can say that after some family members reactions, comments.. ect . That I had wished I had waited at least until I had the surgery . It took my mom and dad quite a long time to come around and not be negative about the surgery. My mom thought " i had not done enough on my own to loose weight " . Grandparents, well they jus tdo not understand the whole concept so they think im crazy . My best friend again , all what SHE wished SHE has seen be done before "resorting" to surgery . Since Im not banded yet, and wont be for another month (HOPEFULLY) I Do kind of wish I had waited. I still do not care what others think, but some days when im frustrtated its just better to not hear others comments. As someone else said on another thread discussing something similiar, I now tell people " SO what if it IS The easy way out, im getting healthy that's all i care about if its easy its easy " HTH Mindy
  4. The long term testing was done for the vaccine by the FDA to get the vaccine approved . It takes an average of 10 YEARS for the FDA to approve a drug or vaccine. During that time testing is done. It wouldnt be on the market if there had not been studies to show its affective . I do agree with you that drug companies have alot of money invested in things. I do not agree with them hiding behind things. If something is funded by a drug company it needs to be apparant , not hard to find out. So i dont totally disagree w/you . Mindy
  5. It sounds like your heart procedure could be what "Fixed' your migraines. I have wanted to go get this checked out myself. I saw somewhere that something like 75% of woman who have migraines with aura have the PFO in their heart. I told my husband If i could have surgery on my heart even and it cure my migraines i would do it. The problem is that unless you get in a PFO study docs wont really even test for one with out certain symtpoms showing up . Im glad your have found relief in your migraines. Your one of the lucky ones i just wish the medical community would open their minds to other conditons taht might be causing migraines. I worry so much about strokes because of my migraines. Mindy
  6. I sleep with a cpap and let me tell you i had NO IDEA I felt so bad until i started feeling " Normal again " . My doc told me that I never got into REM Stage sleep . So I bascially was not sleeping when i thought i was sleeping. He asked me how long i have has insomina ? I told him " About 4 yrs " He said " Mindy You have not slept in 4 yrs " he said i was up and down and tossing and turning all night long. It took about 2 weeks to get use to my cpap . the KEY is getting the RIGHT MASK . the one that yoru comfy with . NOW I cant sleep with out and my husband sure cant becuase i snore too loud lol mindy
  7. Sara is 100% correct. See an endo that is up to date on PCOS . Family practice and OB's will test your levels and see "normal" ranges and endo will look at that same "normal" range and say " this is too low or too high for your age and height and weight ect .. " But like i said before watch out for docs that dont " get or believe in " PCOS . Ask their nurses when you call or ask other people in ur area for an endo that nkow's about PCOS , i have found usually younger docs are better up to date with it > HTH Mindy
  8. NO I does not mean you can not have kids. I know plenty of people with PCOS that have children , namely me and I had no problems getting pregnant. I do not have periods unless I induce them with Provera. I have been like that for many yrs. As you loose weight your period will probably come back. When I was thin my periods were still a little messed up but not as few and far between as they are now. ALL of my PCOS symptoms were not as bad as they are now that im overweight. Fertility issues will get better also once the weight is lost. There are lots of things that can be done to help you once you do get pregnant or to help get your pregnant. I didnt see if you were banded yet but I think you will find once you loose weight alot of the issues you have now will get better. Mindy
  9. I took it the same way , i took it as against it. But maybe i took it wrong as well . Personally i have issues with drug companies. they overprice meds and spend $$$$ whining and dining docs and their offices where they could cut that out and save the consumer money . However, if they are trying to get the word out about a drug that can save lives in the future , what's the issue. I dont see one as long as its getting out. MOST drug info is out by drug companies first , that's how the public finds out about it Mindy
  10. That's what is so crazy about Migraines and PCOS . everyone is so different. I for one never had fertility problems . It took 5 months to get pregnant with my second son and my first was a "surprise" . With migraines , I for one cant do soy but others can . so many variations. Im glad this is helpful lol Mindy
  11. Thanks , The problem with MSG is that its under SO many names. I wish the goverment would do something about it . Regulate . That's how chinese food resturants can get away with saying " NO MSG " its because they have MSG its just in the food under a different name. So if you do not know that its under 20 other names and ask " Do you have MSG in your food" they say no you assume its safe and its not " The best thing I have done is to try to stay away from the inner isles of the grocery store. that is the best way to avoid preservatives. But nothing works 100% for me . Mindy
  12. hi Jules, Im going to be banded , im hoping by the end of next month. My husband bid a job with a RIDICOULOUS mark up as a joke kind of because he really didnt want the job but felt obilagted to bid it. Well turns out they hired him lol Even though he was way more expensive than others. SO as soon as that job is done , im taking the money from our profits from that to get banded. The weather here in Texas has held it up . It was suppose to be done last week. So HOPEFULLY In afew more weeks ? PM me sometime Thanks for the tip on the eggs too Mindy
  13. Its so interesting to me what can and cant be eaten sometimes. I'll have to remeber the eggs when I get my band. Kathy H I Hope you get your issue worked out and can eat soon . I So worry about throwing up too . I get migraines and sometimes throw up with them. I worry abotu that with the band too . Im a worry wart lol Mindy
  14. So is the trick to them keeping them moist or "Slimy" For lack of a better word ? LOL Im not much of a Breakfast person and thought i would be good with eggs. What about egg beaters ? Have you ever tried those ? Thanks for the input Lisa Mindy
  15. I find it interesting that Eggs are hard ? Do they have a hard time sliding down ? Or do they get stuck ? Logically you would think they would be good to eat with the band. Curious ? mindy
  16. I know you said your mom doesnt like change but prior to your surgery can you maybe start introducing some help in while your there? There are some orgainizations that might be able to help out. I think your going ot need it at least at first post op . Your going to need to rest. Can you afford to pay the home health aide a little on the side to come more hours ? Since she might be a little more comfortable with her ? Im sorry I dont have any help as far as what the stress might do to the band im not banded yet either. So im interested in knowing the answer as well MIndy
  17. Just curious. Did you have heart surgery after your heart attack ? are you aware of the PFO/migraine theory ? http://headaches.about.com/od/migraineprevention/a/pfo_escape.htm This actually might be the reason for your headaches being gone . Mindy
  18. Missy, I too have sleep apnea and have been on a cpap for over 3 yrs. It has helped some what since sleep pattern changes can cause migraines to increase. But it hasnt helped that much . If you have not tried Topamax or Zonegran i would try them . I tried everything for many yrs and then just stopped because I thought " what's the point it wont work anyway " I was on topamax for a short time went off it, I never gave it time to work . But this last time I thought ide really give it a shot. I have to tell you I didnt realize how BAD i felt until i started feeling " normal" again . Im also on 100mg of wellbutrin which helps as well. The cpap makes me feel good as well. But If you truely have migraines ( not to be a downer) do not get your hopes up too high that a cpap will stop them. However the cpap will make you realize how little sleep you have gotten over the yrs. You will feel SO much better if you have sleep apnea just from sleeping on the cpap . I cant sleep WITH OUT My cpap now . Once you get use to it you will not want to sleep with out i t. I do not have a headache that is NOT a migraine, I have tension migraines, cluster Headaches, sinus headaches turn into migraines, and I have migraines with Aura as well. So i totally understand. Mindy
  19. O2 Therarpy is only for certain kinds of cluster headaches. Its just what it sounds like you simply inhale oxygen . http://www.webmd.com/hw/migraines/hw185566.asp It doenst work for "regular" migraines. That's worrisome that your migraines have increased since surgery . Its something that I am concerned about for sure. Have you tried preventatives ? I have had migraines since i was 11 at least 4 times a week. Im now on Topamax 100mg a day . Its the ONLY preventative I have found that works for me . It cuts them down to about 4 a month. But that works for me. It has some funky side affects but those are nothing to deal with compared to migraines. HTH Mindy
  20. How long since your surgery ? I have chornic migraines as well as Cluster Migraines . ( my clusters only happen about 2 times a yr though) I am worried my migraines will kick in after surgery during the time of the post op diet. are you eating enough ? Did you recently give up caffiene ? IF you have the "Right" kind of clusters you might be able to do oxygen therapy . Have you checked into that ? Mindy
  21. :clap2: I totally agree with ya . Mindy
  22. Totally agree with ya Mandy . I hope you didnt think I was bashing it . Mindy
  23. OH I totally agree with that, Im not saying that Rosie was right. I think my point , granted not very well made was bad comments shouldnt be made about her because she made them ? I too am pre banded and I see too many times on this site bandsters who are banded making "Fat" Comments or judging others who are not banded. And I think deep down they do not mean to be ugly comments. But Sometimes I think some people forget the road they travel once they get to the end of the road . ya know ? NOW im not saying im perfect. I was a single mom at 16 and I catch myself saying " OMG SHe's pregnant at 16 ! " So Iforget sometimes too . Does that make sense ? LOL ( as i set here and listen to the ladies at the view go at it LOL ) Mindy
  24. Im sure this thread was not meant to be a debate. but they are speaking of the HPV injection. Frankly I do not see the issue with vacinating children to prevent cancer in their adult hood. My sister is 14 and I took her to get the injection. I have a friend who can not have children now becuase of HPV. Just my thoughts. I'll get a bracelet Mindy
  25. I think the docs reasoning behind this is because most people will quit for surgery then start up again. And/Or the statistics show that if you have quit smoking for a yr your more likely to not smoke again . I had not option other than self pay , i dont have health insurance and im self employed. If i had to jump through some hoops for a doc I would if it meant I could get my surgery , which i still do not have. I quit smoking back in september because I knew my doc wouldnt do surgery on me if i smoked. I have least will power of anyone lol I have a friend who told me " I cant quit its too hard " and I tell her " If I can quit anyone can LOL " Good luck i hope you figure something out . Im still waiting on my surgery money to come in . hopefully soon . MIndy
