I ate potatoe chip and candy
Ditto that. But it's a good example of what we do...I know I am guilty...of mindless eating. Before you know it, the whole bag of (whatever) is GONE. Now that I am sleeved, that has stopped for the most part. There have been a few instances where I have taken a big gulp of whatever I was drinking, without realizing it...but my sleeve promptly "woke up" and "screamed" at me....STOP THAT!! I listen, believe you me! Mindful, aware eating is best.

Thanks! I wear jeans most of the time so I'll enjoy them and pass them on when I outgrow them.

VSG while staying crunchy. Is it possible?
The only discomfort was a couple of days when it was very hot outside, my room was a little warm. But I asked for and received a nice fan which really was perfect. The housekeepers are constantly, (and i mean constantly) mopping and cleaning. It was the cleanest hospital I have ever been in, and I'm a 30+ year nurse. There were about 10 rooms on the bariatric wing, and OB postpartal patients were on an adjoining hallway. the ICU was upstairs. It's not a huge hospital, quite new and very nicely decorated. Every room has a TV, a leather sofa where your companion can sleep if they wish and a nice private bathroom/shower.

Friday the big day
That's one reason I did not tell my family, did not want to have to deal with drama and misconceptions. I did my research, went alone, and am enjoying the results. 40 lbs lost!

VSG while staying crunchy. Is it possible?
The most experienced in the USA are Cirangle and Jossart in San Francisco. They do a lot of research as well. My choice was Dr Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico, near San Diego. He also has a great deal of experience and excellent, low complication rates. I was told he has never had any leaks, which is better than the SF statistics, even though theirs are still excellent. I am not financially endowed so with Aceves rates being half that of Cirangle, I chose him. I was very pleased. He seems to be more conservative in that he keeps patients in the hospital for 4 days and performs 3 leak tests. He also oversews the staple line. He is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. See credentials at Bariatric Surgeon Profile - Alberto Aceves M.D., F.A.C.S.

1 month out - feels like day 5 again...
It sounds like you are getting all the right care to facilitate healing...I hope everything settles down for you soon and your nausea subsides. Luckily you called your doctor early and got this taken care of before it was worse.

honey question
I don't think honey is a good idea...too many calories...stimulates insulin production which is not good for you...no nourishment...you need better nutrients, not empty calories. Your sleeve told you it did not like it! Listen to that smart sleeve!

expecpted weight loss after the first month?
I am six weeks out from surgery and have lost 40 lbs. Am at a stall for the past week. This happens...you can expect it so don't get upset when the scales don't move periodically. The body needs to adjust a bit.

Only 1 step left....Surgery!
Kelly, Congratulations on taking this step, you will be so glad you did! If your surgeon recommended a pre-op diet, know that it is essential to follow it carefully because the purpose is to shrink the liver, and get it out of the way so they can safely perform the surgery. If it is not done properly you have a higher risk of serious complications. Some people don't have to do a preop diet and your surgeon will let you know if you need one. Welcome to the forum!

Extreme Dry Mouth: starting to get worried!
PPI's (Nexium, Prilosec) cause the dry mouth. I have it too. It helps a little if I take the nexium first thing in the morning, instead of in the evening. It's important to keep teeth brushed/flossed really well because normally the saliva helps protect them from cavity formation. Once you're off the PPI, the dry mouth should resolve. Being dehydrated can also predispose to blood clots...so be sure to get in all the required fluids....

New to sleeve
I had waves of drowsiness/fatigue too, especially the first two weeks. I just listened to my body, and took a nap when I felt sleepy. Loved it! Rest is healing. Was glad I took two weeks off work. Mushies gave me a much more normal energy level...but I was pooped by the time I finished my work shift, for about two weeks.

New to this in Dallas with questions and fears...
The two stage procedure is what I have seen recommended in the literature, to be safer. It allows time for tissue to heal so you have less chance of a leak after the sleeve. I agree with following your surgeon's recommendation on that, even though it will take you more time to reach your goal.

problem
This post is absolutely on target. Please read it over and over...is it possible that your bf just wants to have a free babysitter??? It appears that he does not have any love or respect for YOU...that is sad for you, but you deserve more in a relationship. His behavior is abusive, and based on what I've seen in similar cases, it is my opinion that eventually it will become physical abuse. Please get out of there while you can and take care of yourself. You'll be so much happier!

2nd follow up done now I have questions...
Dr Aceves recommended nexium for three months for me. I'll try to start tapering off it after that. I'd love to end up on NO prescriptions drugs at all...just OTC calcium and a multiple vit. That's my goal anyway.

Help!! What is wrong with me??? Eating w/in days of post-op
I agree 100% with Tiffany. Your eating pattern could cause a leak, could cost you 20-60,000 bucks (or more) to treat in the ICU, or at worst, could cause you to die. Get rid of whatever is tempting you and get some help right away to deal with the issues that are causing you to endanger yourself. This is serious. Just do what needs to be done to take care of yourself. I hope you are better soon.
