  1. I was always hot before surgery too. When I started the presurgery diet, and was losing weight fast, I became cold...and I'm still cold.

My theory is the body metabolism slows down because it thinks is starving. I am 3 1/2 months post surgery and I am still cold. I wear wool socks, 3 layers of clothes, and sometimes even a hat. It's one I got years ago in Alaska, and it makes me laugh when I put it on because that's where I feel like I am...especially these past few days. It's supposed to be 17 degrees with the wind chill here in Southwest Louisiana tonight.

I can deal with the cold in exchange for all the weight loss! I am stoked...it is hard to believe.

At our family christmas dinner, as people arrived I noticed everyone looking at me with that look that says...hmmmm...something is different...but no one "got it". So I did not tell them. Mischievous me!

Next time they see me, I think they will realize, because I can now see that I have cheek bones in my face...(and I feel "cheek" bones when I sit. Lots of NSV's.:thumbup::thumbup:

  2. That is great news! Thanks. I guess I'm just anxious to get things started & I overreacted when I saw those numbers. I don't want anymore delays - I am ready NOW!!! Whew!

As far as my name - it stands for 2 things. One is obvious, a minature version of the current me. Two is my obession with MINI Coopers . I have a MINI Cooper S Clubman (Hot Chocolate), my husband has a MINI Cooper S Coupe (British Green) and over the summer, we purchased a Classic Mini Cooper (English White). Our families think we need an intervention, but we know how much fun we have when we drive them. Plus, I've met so many friends because of the MINI Club to which we belong. Two friends had a gastric bypass and three had lapband. So, I guess you can say I'm surrounded by a bunch of Losers! :) They are very excited to see how the Sleeve does for me.

One of the NSVs that I will be glad to experience will be the ability to get a smaller car. I've been so big that I could only drive a big one, for comfort. A Cooper sounds nice...they are so cute.

  3. Many obese people (including me) have a deficient glucose-insulin interaction, causing insulin resistance. This may cause low blood sugar reactions, or high blood sugar (diabetes). Low insulin levels is one indication of this. People with this condition gain weight (and have a hard time losing it) if they are eating refined carbs that have a high glycemic index (sugar, corn Syrup, white flour, products made with white flour/sugar, white potatoes, rice, pasta).

You might ask your primary provider to test your glucose and insulin metabolism (glucose tolerance test, Hemoglobin A1C, insulin level)

Also chromium deficiency is linked with abnormal glucose-insulin metabolism so you might want to get that checked too.

I agree with staying below 30 grams of carbs daily, and preferably they should be complex carbs (whole grains, legumes, fruits), especially if you have this problem.

  4. I have had high bp for years and was on medicine. I stopped it about a month ago because I kept getting 110/60 readings and felt dizzy off and on. For a couple weeks the BP stayed down but it has crept back up to 140/80 the past few weeks...maybe because I've been sick with a cold/sinus. Am just watching it closely and if it does not go back down, I'll get back on the BP med, maybe a half dose or something...will talk with my internist about it.

  5. I add some stevia to mine, because I don't tolerate splenda and the other non-sugar sweeteners, and don't like their taste. Stevia tastes like sugar to me. Once you are on regular food, the greek yogurt (I use OKIOS) is great with some fruit in it. When I was on regular food I used fresh/frozen blueberries a lot because they are so Vitamin dense. (I am back on mushies for now)

  6. so i go tomorrow! eeek! and i'm getting everything ready....i'm not bringing my cell phone, the bf is bringing his so it's less to keep track of and worry about for me....but i SWORE there's a number for the driver...you know, like a number you can call if there's an issue and your driver is late or something ya know?

but i can't find it in any of my paperwork. am i just crazy?

do any of you have the number!?!?

You are advised to carry your patient coordinator's phone number with you while traveling in case of delays. My coordinator was Monica and her number was 619-817-8181. another number is 888-344-3916. I had a weather-related flight delay and was very glad to have Monica's number. She was able to rearrange my lab tests and hotel stay before I even arrived.

  7. Yes, I my surgeon was Dr. Stephen Burpee in Tucson. His office is helpful. The surgery was very successful with no complications and didn't take long in the OR either. The best part is the affiliation he has with Northwest Hospital in Tucson (a walk from his office). The weight loss program they have there is great. Tons of infomoration and informational classes to take before the surgery so you know what to expect. An RN by the name of Gail is the head person for the weight loss program and supplies you with a great binder including what to eat at every week, and lots more information like Vitamins, Protein, exercise, etc. etc. She also visits you after surgery and the day after that. She makes frequent calls to check up after you and tell you what you should be eating, I guess in case you haven't read your binder. I like Dr. Burpee as well. I didn't have a lot of questions for him at all, so I just didn't converse with him much. The seminar he conducts gives you lots of information too. Office visits post surgery are at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and yearly after that. He just makes sure you are where you need to be and checks out your blood work. After reading some people here that don't know what to be eating or what they should be doing after a couple of weeks, I realized how fortunate I was to have Dr. Burpee and Gail. If possible, they provide you with TOO much information!!

You can find info on Dr Burpee at

  8. Down to 215 today. The scales is on the move this past week, 9 lbs past ten days. Probably partly because I am not getting in 6-800 calories, since I have this darn esophogeal diverticulum. I have cut back on the volume I am eating to about what I was consuming the first few weeks post op. in case there is a pressure problem inside my esophagus. Am going to see the gastroenterologist today, hope to get some answers. Glad for the wt loss but not a good way to do it!
