  1. i have lost 50lbs in three months. I am six pounds short of being half way to my goal, but i'm excited that i lost this. I had the goal and was hoping i would reach it, however i was not going to get upset if i didn't make it. But passing all of the Desserts and treats at work this past week has paid off!!!!!! I'm just so excited. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!

    way to go, gonnaloseweight!!!

  2. The good news is that all of my 3 month labs are NORMAL. I was very surprised and thrilled. It surprised me because although I do eat some fruit 2-3 times a week, I'm not really getting in any veggies...no room for them after getting in the required protein! I think that the Vitamin Water I'm sipping on all day helps a lot.

The bad news is, the upper GI xray showed that I now have a small traction epiphrenic diverticulum. Bummed. I never knew that the esophagus could have a diverticulum so have been reading research online to learn about it. Luckily I'm not having any symptoms so it's probably going to be just "watch it" scenario. I'll see my gastroenterologist after the holidays to see what he recommends.

Dr Aceves thinks it's from "overeating". He's recommended I go back on mushies and liquids for now and reduce the volume I ingest at any one time, to prevent pressure on the diverticulum. I'm going to see a local gastroenterologist after the holidays. Wish I lived closer to Mexicali so I could get to Dr Aceves' office but it's not in the cards for me.

At three months out, how much of a Protein Shake can other folks drink over a 30 minute period? I've been doing one cup, which is one shake. Now I'll have to cut it back to 1/2 cup. It's going to take me longer to get in everything, but I guess no one every promised that this would be easy. No solids means no Christmas dinner with my family! Double Bummer for Christmas!

Today will be the first time some of them see the new me, 68 lbs lighter! I've not told them so they will be very surprised!

Does anyone have experience with this, or know someone who had it? I'm looking for all the information I can get. Apparently it's rare.

  3. There are liquid Vit D drops. I don't have any reference on it, but maybe you can google it.

After one nauseating try, I did not focus at all on solid Vitamins the first month...just made sure to open up the nexium and take the granules without chewing, in some liquid. I took liquid Vit D from my Dr's office, and sublingual B12.

Now at almost 3 months I can take most pills. The big Calcium pills I break up into smaller chunks and take with liquids.< /span>

  4. Girlfriend if i we're you i wouldn't lesson to no one, And i don't I'm following my heart. And i know the dear lord will be with us all. It's good you post this thread b/c my sorry boyfriend keep saying I'm not going to have $5,500 to put on this surgery.FYI ,I Support Me, Kids and Him financly right now so if i want to put my income tax money and sale my car to have my surgery that is exactly what i am going to do and if he are nobody else like it they can go to HE**.I figure this, I can get another car and I am always spending money on other stuff (like my kids and his broke ass) why not do something for Me this time w/my tax money. It's not like I will be carless sh*t we have another one .(sorry about the rant I'm just so depressed and so ready to get the sleeve already)So i say to you go with what you feel he** we all live once and i'm ready to live it to the fullest.

    GOD BLESS

    RIGHT ON, SISTER!

    You've got your priorities straight!

  5. Ok!! I am a little afraid about going to Mexico. The fact of thinking that another doctor won't touch me if i have complications is scary. I can't afford the price here in the us. I know that dr. Aceeves is wonderful but i'm still afraid. Please!! People help me out, I need encouragement.

My internist did not bat an eye when I told her I had gone to Mexico for the VSG. She ordered all my 3 month post op tests, and has been fully supportive. If your PCP has not been supportive, look around...you can fine one who is.

You will love Dr Aceves and Dr Campos. And you will be impressed at how much more personal and how awesome the care is at their hospital, compared to U.S. hospitals.

  6. Thanks for checking on me Lan2K, How are you doing? managing any new foods yet?

I find it very bizarre that I've gone 6 full days on clear fluids. Apple juice, SoBe Water, low sugar gatorade, Crystal Light, tea, chocolate powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, homemade broths....I feel absolutely no hunger or cravings. I remember when recovering from having the lapband installed that I cheated and had a tablespoon of lowfat cottage cheese on the 5th day because I couldn't stand it anymore. Maybe it's just more important to me now, maybe I'm really ready...or maybe the VSG works entirely differently. All I know is it's working for now and I'm thankful. I return to work tomorrow, we'll see how that goes.

    Tracy,

There is a physiologic reason, and it is the greatest gift of the sleeve in myopinion...the part of the stomach that was removed is the part that produces grelin...the hormone that causes hunger. That will help you lose weight as long as you don't give in to "head hunger" or habit.

And after what you've been through, you are also probably much more ready to work the sleeve optimally.

    Good luck!

  7. Some people have more trouble with others, having "head hunger"...longing for certain foods and feeling "hungry" for them...but after getting in some fluids often that feeling goes away. I have not had much of that, in fact, am still having some days when nothing tastes good but I eat because I have to get in the Protein. It's a slight nausea but not really...hard to describe. But it's so great to not have that old hungry all the time feeling that kept me obese. What a miracle, really.

I have to remind myself to get in the fluids and food...just get busy doing things and remember that I forgot to eat and drink.

  8. This is just about the saddest thing I?ve ever read!

  9. Hey everyone! I am sooo excited. I start my preop liquid diet in two days. I have a surgery date set for December 30th with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico! I have struggled with my weight for the past 14 years. I am only 33 years old and I know if I want to live a long healthy life this is the best decision I could have ever made for myself and my family. Wish me luck!! I am not nervous at all--- I can hardly wait!

    Drummm ROLLLLLL....

Soon you will be post op and the pounds will start falling off! Keep us in formed on how you are doing! We care!

  10. I am in day 12 of my 14 day pre-op diet. I have lost 12#. But I still do the "yo-yo" one day good, then the next not so good. That goes for exercising this last week as well. By exercising, it is suppose to help strengthen my lungs and heart for surgery, also help with leg circulation to prevent blood clots after surgery.

I know one of the main reasons for the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver to help the surgeon perform the procedure better. But really, how important is the pre-op diet overall? I mean in all reality, how much does it really help?

If you have been advised to do it, it is extremely important. It will help your liver to not be so slippery and large, so you will have less chance of getting it nicked during surgery, which could cause hemorrhage, blood transfusions, or worse. For your own good, do exactly what the surgeon recommends.

Some people who are not so big are not required by their surgeons to do a preop diet. Mine required it. I lost 17 lbs during that pre op period, and it was not easy. But I was very committed.

    25. A picture is worth a thousand words, but it uses up three thousand times the memory.

    28. The original point and click interface was a Smith &Wesson.

    29. I smile because I don't know what the hell is going on.

  13. I think it was day 5 or 6 when I had my first, and it was actually several days of diarrhea...purple peacock poop from the stuff we were given for the sleeve test.

Once I was cleaned out I had to start taking Metamucil clear every day, to keep from being constipated. The high Protein diet does not produce much bulk, so gotta take something. You don't want Constipation or hemorrhoids, so get on it and stay on it until your diet is more normal. I do fine with one tsp of metamucil clear in a glass of Fluid daily. Even with that I only go twice a week.

  14. Today I weighed 156.5 lbs, which is a little less than 10 lbs. to my goal and the lowest I've ever weighed. On a normal day I really don't notice much difference, but when I look back at pictures, I can really see the changes. I thought I'd post a couple of pics to show the difference, one is from December 2007 (around 235 lbs; size 20 pant, 1X top in picture) and the other is from this year December 2009 (156.5 lbs; size 10 pant, Small top in picture).

DeeDee, you look beautiful! You've done a great job working your sleeve! Congratulatins!

  15. I'm home. Exhausted, car unpacked, dogs greeted, laundry started, flannel nightie on....just totally wiped out. I think adding in some Protein tomorrow will be a very good thing. No problems drinking or with incisions. Haven't fainted on anyone... so this is a plus. More tomorrow when I'm coherent.

thanks for all the support. '

    I'm home....& thankful for it!

    Tracy

Welcome home...glad you made it back to your own bed? I remember how good that felt! Keep in touch!

  16. I am still pre-op but I have finished my Kaiser Options Classes. As of 12/17/2009 I have lost 44.6 pounds with my classes, and I still waiting on my date.

I would like to still drop 23.4 pounds before surgery its my personal goal to be only 100 pounds away from my final goal before surgery. If I make it I will be thrilled, if I dont well I tried darn hard!!! LOL

I am hoping for a surgery soon, but I figure I have waited this long whats a few more months right? (HA!)

Super job Katrina. Your attitude and determination will get you to your goal before you know it!

  17. DeeDee,

You could have it altered to fit for not much cost.

I've "taken up" some of my scrubs, and (TMI my underpants which were falling off...) If you can sew, some alterations are quite easy. Others...well, get to know a good seamstress for the dresses and clothes that you love. Great job working your sleeve!
