Thinking of using Dr. Aceves in Mexico
cajun replied to shanda7182's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oregon Daisy, What phone service do you use? I am wondering if my verizon will work in Mexicali. thanks. -
I started a modified pre-surgery diet (hi protein, lo carb) about three weeks ago and since I knew it was not required, did not feel bad about eating a concentrated carb (chips, and ice cream) three times during that period. Now that I am on the REAL pre-surgery diet, it's not too hard. Once you see that you've already started losing some weight, it helps with motivation. You can also come to this board and ask for support when you feel tempted to eat the wrong things. Your buddies here will encourage you to stay on the path.

Today, in tears over non-coverage of VSG...
cajun replied to lapfish's topic in Insurance & Financing
Ask what their criteria are for approving a VSG. Read the article at SpringerLink - Journal Article You will find good info there on your rights. Don't give up....ever! -

Donna, I am so glad to hear something positive about Canadian health care after all the blarny on the TV about how the US should not choose universal coverage "because it does not work in Canada". Why don't we hear more stories like yours? I'm insured but work in a State hospital that cares for the indigent as well as the insured. I see an astounding number of patients who would not be as sick as they are, had they been insured and able to seek care earlier. Instead they suffer silently and eventually when they find the affordable system available here, it is often too late...the leg is lost, the cancer has spread, etc, etc... How sad, and unnecessary.

How do you manage the trip home?
cajun replied to stoongal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another tip: sometimes if there is an empty seat in first class, if you ask at the gate before you board you can purchase that seat for a minimal fee...like 50-75 dollars above your ticket price. It is worth it in my opinion and I have been able to do it several times. -
Really cute outfit tiff! Yep, I'd lose the bracelet too...it distracts from the prettier part of the picture...YOU! He will be so excited and happy for you!

don't make this mistake
cajun replied to Bob_350lbs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since hominy is actually corn, it has a very high glycemic index and should be avoided as much as sugar. We used to have it when I was a kid and I liked the taste. But I also love fritos corn chips! Dangerous, dangerous food for me.. Can eat a whole bag, so I just don't buy them. -

Daisy, I am so sorry that you have had such a difficult time...so many losses at one time, it must seem overwhelming. The one loss that is a happy one is all the weight. Know that you have many friends here.

20 pounds in 2 weeks, but I'm miserable....
cajun replied to ADNK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may be in a superficial vein, and if so, not such an emergency. Still not fun! I don't know the particulars. -
Janette, I will keep you in my thoughts that you recover soon. I presume they took the band out...did they do a VSG too?

Carrying your own meds to and from mexico
cajun posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it a problem to carry your own meds (hypertension, thyroid meds) to and from Mexico in an unmarked container? Do they need to be in a marked prescription bottle? My Rx bottles are the huge ones that the mail order pharmacy uses...one size fits all, and I have a few tiny pills in the bottom of the bottles. I'd like to just put them in my little (unmarked) pill box to carry. But will that cause a problem when I cross the border coming home if I am "searched"? Still trying to get all my ducks in a row, and pack light, before the trip! Thanks for advice.
