Getting things ready, but still looking for post-op protiens that I can tolorate the taste of. So far the Isopure is tolorable but the Pro Performance Liquid Protien I purchased was awful and I will be taking that back. Any one have any other sugestions for the clear liquid protiens?I did buy some Isopure, but still need some other ideas as well. I also bought Pro Performance whey Protein unflavored powder. I bought unjury (unflavored, strawberry sorbet, vanilla, chocolate, & chicken Soup flavors). I also got some Chike (orange creme, banana magic, chocolate bliss, & very vanilla). I haven't tried out any of then yet.
Now I'm wondering if I should keep the Pro Performance power. Is it really bad? :scared0:

I thought I had posted to this thread the other day, but I guess I didn't... here's what's going on with me...------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all... bummer news for me. I won't be coming down to see Dr. A on the 22nd. My doc here in town wants me to have blood tests and follow up with him, and the soonest I could get back in with him is that week of the 22nd. So... I guess we shall see what he has to say, and then get the ball rolling.
Before I go, I did want to share with you what my local doctor said to me today... he said that even though I lost weight with the band, and have gained back since I lost my band... he doesn't think that being 210 pounds warrants another weightloss surgery. This, I thought, was odd... considering my past success. It was kind of crushing. I shut down when he told me that, because I was about to bust out crying... Anyways, that's my update, friends. I'm sorry I won't be there with all of you, but hope that I will be going down for surgery soon!
I'm so sorry to hear that. Why would he think that 210 doesn't warrant another weight loss surgery? If you did so well with the band, I'm sure you'd do wonderful with the sleeve. I would consider seeing another doctor if at all possible. Best wishes to you. Don't give up.

I'm so excited! The time is going by so quick..I have a ton of shopping to do for my post op diet.I'm so excited too!!! I haven't done a bunch of shopping. I've had to hold myself back. I'm afraid I'll buy to much stuff and then end up not liking it. I did order sample protien powders from a few companies, and a few other things. I'll probably pick up some other items during the week.

I'll be rooting for all of you, and am totally jealous that I can't be there with you! :001_tongue::thumbup1: Good luck everyone, and here's to your sleeve! :biggrin0:Thanks so much! It's greatly appreciated. :w00t:

Tracy...ouchie!!! I sure hope the pain eases up and that it's not as serious as it could be. Hopefully the doctor will have some good news for you.

:thumbup1:Hi everyone! Since my VSG surgery on December 30th I have been busy losing weight and starting back to school. Tomorrow my stitches come out and I have lost 15 Lbs. since the DOS. I feel great and I am NEVER HUNGRY. What a big relief that is. I am now like one of the people I used to hear about who eat to live. It is a HUGE relief let me tell you as I have been consumed with hunger and thoughts of food. Everyday I step on the scale I have lost more weight. I feel fantastic! The only difference is that I am a little more emotional...i am unable to eat emotionally any longer. I go through the motions ...walk to fridge, open it, think of it, just never do it anymore. I guess this is the real meGood to hear your update. Sounds like you are doing very well and adjusting to your new life. Keep up the great work. It will all be worth it.

Ok...I had to ask Dr. Aceves what his standards were on bougie size. He usually uses a 36 bougie and then he sutures over the staple line making the stomach smaller as if he had used a 34 bougie.
He has had patients ask for a larger size and so he is flexible.
Thanks for posting this Tiff. This was one of the questions on my "Ask Dr. Aceves List".

Bambi, congratulations! It's so exciting, isn't it? I'm on day 4 of my preop diet and it's really not so bad at all. Maybe it's because I'm so excited about the future. Good Luck and can't wait to hear your journey.

Stephanie, that's fantastic! Keep us posted.

Wow..that's hard to comprehend!! My question is how does the doctor decide what size he's going to use? I don't have a clue what size mine should/will be. Is it based on your height?

How are you feeling today Barbara and Gloria? Hopefully this will soon pass and you'll feel better. . .thinoneday,
I'm doing great today. Thanks! The headache was horrible, but this morning when I woke up it was gone. Things are going along smoothly with the diet also. My hubby is following it along with me. He's been so supportive and helpful. He wants to drop some weight also, so he's going to just follow along with healthy eating which makes it much easier for me.
How are things for you? Do you have your date set yet?

Thanks Big Tex!! Day 3 and I'm already feeling much better. :crying:
-
Let me know when it finally goes away so that I know what to expect. I hope you feel better soon! I start my diet the 19th. I am kind of working on it now, but honestly it isn't going so well.excited
Day 3 and I woke up with no headache. Yahooo!! It just lasted 2 full days for me. Today I feel really good. Doctors office did tell me that day 3 of the diet is usually the most difficult and that's when you usually crave carbs. They suggested that I make sure not to allow myself to get hungry. So that's my goal today to just eat meals and snack on things that are allowed. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones and have no headache. :crying:

Carb withdrawal headache...uuugghh:cursing:It's right up there with the caffeine headache.
Give it a couple days, it will get better.
Thanks Linda. Once the headache goes away, the diet won't be so bad.

I didn't have any issues preop, but boy howdy the caffiene headache I had the day after surgery was brutal. Even with the pain meds it was hurtful, but a cool wash rag and a shower helped a lot. By day 3 it was gone and haven't had one since.Bill
Wing, I haven't attempted cutting out the caffiene yet, although I know I will need to very soon. It's the one thing I'm hanging on to until the last possible minute. lol

Hi Barbara, yes you can get a headache from cutting back on carbs. . . your body is used to sugars and when you suddenly take them away, bang you get this headache. . . same with caffeinated products. . .take them away and there goes your head. . . hang in there, this too shall pass. . . the post op diet is nutty too, but just remember that this is only temporary and not a permanent thing. . . you can do it. . .I had no idea cutting back on carbs would cause a headache. :confused1: Nothing seems to relieve it. Hopefully it will be gone in a few days. Thanks for your encouragement. I'm hanging in there.

I started my pre op diet yesterday. It's basically a high Protein low carb diet. Less than 30 carbs a day. I got a headache about noon yesterday and have had a continuous one since.
Can you get headaches from cutting back on carbs?
Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm so happy to find people that will be there with me. I have been to Mexicali twice before, once for my lap band back in 2007 and once more to go with a friend to get a lap band in latter 2007, and this is my first time by myself. I'm not too worried to go my myself, but its comforting to meet some of you that will be there too. Does anyone know if I bring my laptop will I be able to access the internet? I never tried before because I didn't have a lap top...I'm just trying to think of things to bring to pass the time.Dr. Aceves staff did tell me that the hopsital has wifi and that it was ok to bring my laptop. So I am bringing mine and hopefully it will work.
It is comforting to have others there at the same time. I don't think you'll feel alone as we will all be there to support you as well. Be sure to look me up when there.

Hi All.... I've scheduled my surgery with Dr. A for Friday, January 22 (arriving in Mexicali on Thursday, 1/21). Buying my plane ticket tomorrow morning... So, it looks like I'll be there with a few of you ladies and gents... If anyone is arriving on Jan 21 with surgery on Friday, I would love to be in touch... as I'm coming down alone as well, and it would be great to hang out. I've been to Mexicali once before, for band removal, so I feel pretty comfortable with it, and going alone isn't a big deal... it might just be fun to know someone else is near by to chat, or whatever. :smile1::biggrin2: If you want to PM me, or say hi here, that'd be great. As for everyone else who'll be there that week/weekend, can't wait to meet you all as well! :smile1:
Youknowit, looking forward to meeting you also!!:biggrin0:
Anyone scheduled for sleeve with Dr. Aceves the week of Jan 18th - 22nd.
