  1. Sorry I haven't been updating much. It's the sedond day and has been a rough one. We've been walking the hall quite a bit but still have pains. We were allowed to drink Water for the first time a few hours ago. They also had us drink 4 small medicine cups of blue apple juice so they can test for leaks. That took a while to get down and it's funny cause everyone is walking around with blue teeth and lips. About 1/2 hour later they brought us hot tea, apple juice and some crystal lite. We just drink it as we can.

I'm pretty groggy cause I had pain meds earlier to I'll keep this short.

    Report more later.

  2. Thanks for all your wells wishes. I think I was the last one sleeved because I didn't get back to my room until after 6pm. I walked once last night before going to bed. Surgery went very well and no hernia which I expected might be the case. Brenda had hers before me and I think she's doing great. I'm not in a lot of pain, mostly just estremely sore. They did do the spinal shot, but by the time they do that to you, you are just about totally out of it and don't feel a thing. So don't fret about it ladies. They do this because it kicks in about 2 hours after surgery after everything wears off from the surgery and keeps you comfortable.

    I'll write more later.

Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers.

  3. I'm still waiting in line for surgery. I wasn't the first taken in and it looks like we have a full house here. Two other ladies had surgery yesterday and we meet them in the hall when we arrived. Just found out I'm going to be the 4th in line today. Brenda just got her happy pill which means she is next in line. I'll post again after surgery. I probably won't be out till late this evening.

  4. Well, we made the trip to San Diego and then on to Mexicali. My flight was an hour late so I was so worried that the van would leave without me. Of course they waited for me.

We did all our preop tests today. They actually weren't bad at all. They drew blood, did x rays and a ekg. We met with the anesthesiologist first and then Dr. Aceves. I loved them both. They were very detailed about what to expect and what is expected of us. Had lots of paperwork to fill out. We were allowed to go out to dinner tonight after a full day of fasting. Needless to say, I ate to much. I was starved by the time we had dinner around 6pm.

The hotel is very nice and the restaurant here is fantastic.

I met Brenda and her mother. Great people. We actually had dinner together tonight.

Tomorrow morning Ernesto will pick us up at 7am to head to the hospital for surgery. Surprisingly I'm not nervous at all. They did give us an antibiotic we are to take tonight and a pill to help us sleep.< /p>

I'll post more tomorrow after surgery.

Wish me Luck and all prayers appreciated.

    :)

  5. Beth, This is what I read on another thread:

    1) For the first 10 days following surgery, nothing other than Clear liquids and a Protein supplement should be consumed. ABSOLUTELY no solid food!!! Clear Liquids consist of Jell-O, sugar-free Crystal light, Water, and broth. A high quality Protein supplement such as Isopure or whey protein should be used in order to obtain approximately 70 grams of protein per day."

But seems I read something different elsewhere, I'm gonna look. I remember reading something about day 1 through 5 being something, and then you could ad stuff after that.

  6. I actually wore bikini panties and my drain fit perfect in there! But this is after losing 40+ lbs with the band before the sleeve.

I loved your title "big girl panties" and the story behind it!! LOL

Fabby, I wish I could wear bikini's!! Hopefully after my sleeve and probably plastics...I might be able to. lol :001_tongue:

  7. Well 5 days away from surgery. :001_smile: I think I'm as prepared as I'm going to be. I did last minute shopping for things I need to take with me to the hospital. I bought a cheap gown to wear, just in case I feel good enough after surgery to wear one. I bought a comfy jogging suit to wear there and back. I also took peoples advice from this site and bought some "big girl panties". Sounds like your belly swells up a bit after surgery and big panties are more comfortable than your regular ones (not that my regular ones aren't big girl panties already:001_unsure:). I normally buy my undies at Dillards and never really paid attention to the size. I just pick up an individual pair, eye ball them, and then buy them. Well last night, I decided to go to Wal-Mart to look for those panties that come in packs. I've never bought undies like that before and was a little confused as to what size I needed. After some serious contemplating I picked a pack that I thought would be big on me and headed home. First thing hubby said when I walked in the door is "Did you find some big girl panties"? I pulled out the sealed pack to show him and started to open them up. The first thought that went through my head was "What if these fit me perfect, and I just think these are going to be big on me"? I would NEVER bring these back to get bigger ones. As it was, I made sure it was a lady cashier before I would check out and felt like I was waving them over my head as I walked to the check out counter saying "Hey everyone, look at these huge panties"! :lol0: Funny how our mind works, huh? lol Thank goodness they were big and will work just fine.

  8. Here's the information my doctor gave me for pre op diet:

    Pre Op diet

In the obese, the liver is a huge, fatty organ. It is “in the way” of the surgical area during surgery, and must be held back with surgical instruments. An enlarged liver is very fragile and bleeds quite easily when touched or manipulated during surgery. This bleeding can be difficult to control, and the extra care required with an enlarged liver increases surgical risk, as well as surgical time. Longer surgical time and extended time under general anesthesia can make both immediate and longer-term recovery much more difficult for you.

For those with a BMI of 40 or over, a special high Protein low-carb pre op diet has been extremely effective in shrinking the liver, so that the risks of bleeding and extended surgery times are greatly decreased. Those with lower BMIs may also choose, if they wish, to follow the liver-shrinking diet to further decrease their surgical risks.

Following this SPECIFIC DIET PLAN is extremely important. The goal is not to lose weight, necessarily, but to enter a temporary period of dietary ketosis, which is not harmful to you at all. However, many do lose a good amount of weight, which will jump-start your weight loss as you begin to regain and improve your health. It is this dietary ketosis that results in liver-shrinking and the normalizing of your metabolism so that you can do well with weight loss surgery.

    LIVER-SHRINKING DIET PLAN

There are NO CALORIE LIMITATIONS on the LIVER-SHRINKING diet. You may eat/drink as much as you wish of the allowed things to feel satisfied, although we suggest reasonable limits to assist your weight loss. This does not have to be a liquid diet.

Start a low carb (30 grams or less daily), high Protein (minimum 60-70 grams daily), keep a close eye on the fat intake (don't over do it) and at least the minimum required daily amount (64 ounces) of plain Water intake diet prior to surgery.

If you chose to drink a Protein shake. Please read the labels. You should get at least 15 grams of Protein & less than 6 grams of total Carbohydrates per serving. Protein shakes are NOT required, but are very convenient.

You may have low fat yogurt, lean meats, grilled chicken, green vegetables. We recommend checking the carb content on your food. You can find a very useful carb counter on Atkins.com

  9. Hi ladies! Your time is getting so close! I haven't posted in a while, but I am in San Diego now - getting picked up tomorrow morning to head to Mexicali! I hope you all do well on the pre-op diet & I will post again tomorrow night to update you, once I'm in my room after all the testing is done.

Not gonna lie... the jitters got to me slighty & I was tempted to "vacation" in San Diego & catch a plane home all in tact! lol All is well now though (many thanks to all the reassuring posts on this site) & I am back on track & more focused than ever! Yay sleeve! :biggrin0:

Kai, Just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you and praying everything goes great! Can't wait to hear from you.
