  1. Hey John and Prettyinpink,

John are you getting your Protein Drinks in? I have 3 cups of Protein Drink a day and eat about as much as you approx. 700 calories/day. I am never hungry. My surgery was 9/10. To date I've lost 33lb (13.5lb was pre-op diet). The Protein 'shake' i am using is Unjury and their chicken Soup flavor is really pretty good or the unflavored one in Beef broth (s &p to taste) is also okay. Ive been drinking the savory flavors cos I got burned out on nearly 3 weeks of slimfast vanilla, strawb and choc! The savory flavors actually fool me into thinking I'm having a meal. And each cup is packed with 21g of protein. I do believe that that protein 'shot' 3x a day is what keeps me full and full of energy. Hope this helps - hang in there - I am told it will get even better after the fill. My first fill is scheduled for Oct 21st. :o

  2. Got banded on 9/8/9. Still having lots and lots of bloating. Makes it real hard to want to eat or drink. Dr says to walk and take gasx. Still not much relief. Any ideas or clues out there pls.

Im right there with u Ivnrey... I have been burping non stop since I got home from the hospital on 9/10!!! Its the worst feeling - feel like i just ate thanksgiving dinner all day every day for the past 4 days! Guess I'm gonna walk walk walk - It hurts to burp!

  3. Thanks for all your responses everyone. Well at least I'm now prepared going forward lol. Since im only 4 days post op it hurts quite a bit to burp so that's why it was getting me down. Also, I think the dietician had me on a rigorous schedule to eat then drink Protein Shakes and Water - gosh I felt like I had just eaten Thanksgiving dinner all weekend long (I was banded last thursday). Yesterday i tried to do stuff at my own pace - only drinking or eating when i didnt feel completely terrible. I still got all my Protein shakes, water and meals in I just stretched it out over a longer period of time. I burped less and felt better. I am going to call my doc and dietician today and see what they say. Good luck to you all!

  4. I was banded on Aug 17 and am on my last week of mushies and purees. Next week I graduate to soft foods, and the following week anything goes.

BUT, I've been cheating slightly, to no detriment, except for Wednesday. Wednesday I "splurged" on a Thai dish -- salmon and veggies (not too spicy). I was craving veggies. I didn't eat a large portion (only 1/4 - 1/3 of the dish).

Boy did I pay for it today. Very uncomfortable.

Which leads me to a question -- how have you been able to get vegetables in during mushies and soft food? I feel like all I'm eating is Protein, dairy, and more Protein.

Also, I'm not really feeling restriction except for the stitches. I've had no issues drinking Water, finishing protein shakes (except for taste) and other issues I was warned about.

Is this just because I haven't had a fill yet (scheduled for 10/6).

    Thanks for any advice!

    Hey Joshesgirl,

I was only banded yesterday but in the full liquid and mushies stage i'm going to be pureeing/liquidizing all sorts of stuff in a blender. I have a Magic Bullet blender so i think its gonna work out fine. Gonna dump some veggie Soup in there and blend up a storm

  6. Hello everyone,

I was just banded this morning. I was a bit nervous about the whole procedure but luckily, just a few hours before surgery I found your site and read all the Post-Op stories to try to get an overall idea of what to expect and of coruse... it helped me A LOT. Thank you all so much.

It's only been a few hours since my surgery, and besides they pain and overall discomfort I like they way the band feels: I feel mentally "hungry" but physically satisfied I dunno if that makes any sense to any of you, but it's helped me deal with the whole liquid diet thing. So since 3pm today (it is now 1am) I've had a small cup of apple juice in the hospital, a single scoop of mango ice cream (non-dairy) a couple of lemon popsicles and a large cup of fresh made chicken broth. There is no additional discomfort that I can associate to these liquids, so it all seems to be going down just fine but... Am I "eating" (drinking) too much for this being my first day?

BTW I am in Mexico City, currently weigh 286 pounds and need to lose about 120. I had the surgery done here (Visso Clinic in Santa Fe, Mexico City), the total cost was around $5,800 USD in pesos (including adjustments, physical, nutritional and psycological treament for a year) and I guess the "worst" part of my procedure was getting the IV line in my wrist (I hate needles), and the extremely sore throat during the first few hours after surgery. Other than that I think the abdominal pain has been kinda bearable so far except when I cough.

I am very happy I went thru with this and will be reading my way through the entire forum for additional knowledge. This page is of great help. Thank you all so much!

    Hey Kimo....

Snap - I was banded yesterday too. And so far I've had the equivalent of 1 cup of ice Water at the hospital and 46g Protein in the form of nectar (from Vitamin Shoppe) mixed with 16oz water. I bought the Fuzzy Navel flavor and its really not too bad (a nice change from two weeks on vanilla, strawberry and chocolate Slimfast!) I like that each scoop of Nectar is a whopping 23g of protein and only 90 calories!

So far minimal pain and discomfort (probably a 3 on a scale of 1-10). I took some pain meds before bed last night to ensure I got a good nights sleep but honestly didnt need it. Ive had minimal gas pains in my shoulders and neck - thats possibly cos all i did after getting home from the hospital is walk around and burp lol TMI.

Like you I agree - so far so good and yea having the band doesn't really 'feel' much different (yet).

Good luck to you on your journey. Our weights are nearly the same too... I weighed 288lb before starting the 2 week pre-op diet and yesterday weighed in at 275lb before surgery - a nice jumpstart!:frown:

  7. Hi Jessica,

I had issues with being tired and lethargic too and turned out my thyroid was a little outta whack.

I am now on Synthroid and i have an abundance of energy. If your thyroid is that far outta whack too it could

def be contributing to your being so worn out. You should have the labs done and get some thyroid meds if required.

Good luck in your road to looking kick butt awesome!

  8. Hi...I am wondering what kind of diet everyone did for the pre-op? I havent met with the surgeon yet, but insurance requires 5% loss for coverage...I have a terrible time losing and afraid I wont get it off in 6 months...I need to lose 16lbs...maybe more once I speak with the surgeon

    TIA!

    Lauri

    Hey Lauri,

I am on a 2 week pre-op diet: 5 x slimfast items (shakes or bars) per day plus one regular meal basically consisting of 5oz. lean meat, turkey, chicken, fish and 2 cups of non-starchy veg. I have lost 11.7lb in 12 days! I dont think you will have any problems loosing the pre-op weight if you stick to the diet. The first two days were really tough for me but Im used to it now and it doesnt bother me. I have to lose 14.5lb (5% of my body weight) by my surgery date which is Thursday next week and I don't think I'll have a problem based on the past 12 days. Hope this helps reassure you that the docs know what they're doing when they give you their diet - just follow whatever diet he gives you to the letter (no matter how difficult) and you WILL lose the weight by surgery date! Good luck to you

  9. so i need ideas, can you give me an example of what you had for liquid diet. i am sick of Protein shakes, i have surgery one month from tomorrow and i am worried that i wont loose the weight

    QUOTE]

    Hi Linda,

I am on 5 Slimfast items/day (shakes or bars) and then one regular meal at night consisting of basically 5oz lean meat/fish/chicken and 2 cups of non-starchy veg. Good luck with your diet - I'm also enjoying the rapid weightloss the pre-op diet offers - it's great and keeps me motivated!! My surgery is scheduled for September 10th :).

  10. I am so excited - just had to post!

I am on day 6 of the 2 week required pre-op diet. I've lost 7.2lb in the first 5 days!!! I hope it continues this way.... it's awesome! I feel better and more energetic already in spite of the 1200 calories a day

The first couple of days were really tough but its pretty much smooth sailing right now. The only thing thats a drag is that I'm craving salt! I'm on Protein shakes/bars all day (very sweet) then a low cal meal for dinner. Im not a really big salt fan but I'm craving it now - go figure!
