  1. I was banded in Cairns on 20 Oct 09.

Before I left hospital the Nurse handed me a little card to carry in my purse saying that

"This Patient has undergone a surgical procedure to place an adjustable band around the stomach to assist in the treatment of Obesity.

Before prescribing medication or performing any gastric procedure, please consult the patients surgeon or a qualified medical professional."

It has my name on it and my surgeons name on it.

I is similar to the medic alert Emergency assist card that anyone who wears a medic alert would carry ( I wear a medic alert for drug allergies! but have not added my band onto the information as yet. Guess I should though.

    Hope this helps

  2. I think it is way to early to know if I do have any restriction just from the band. My guess is that it is all still a little swollen from the actual op. I don't feel hungry though (except mind hunger) and when I do eat even my mushy stuff I feel like Ive had enough! because I would be too scared to over eat at the moment I don't have any real discomfort eating either. I hope my case is the same as your. my weight loss to date is mostly pre-op

  3. I was banded by Dr Greenslade in Brisbane on the 21/10/09. Had the usual side effect , shoulder pain, wind etc, but my god its already worth it.

Totally weird think is my husband said my snoring has just completely stopped and I was BAD!!! Not sure why that has happened...any ideas, anyone

That morhine is some GRRREATT stuff too. My kids think mummmy was very funny.

    Good luck everyone!!

wow! this is soooo weird because for years my husband has insisted that we have our noisy old air-conditioner running all night on fan just to drown out the noise of my snoring...the last two nights! NO AIRCON...and he reckons Im not snoring either...this alone is a bonus as it has cause many a tiff in my household. LOL

it's a week tomorrow...I am starting the mushy stage...WooHoo... vitamised chicken and vegs...Yum! I was so sick of liquid.

  4. Hey Meg's,

I had my band done on Tuesday 20th and like you have had very minimal pain. I did however get the worst of raging headaches that lingered till yesterday, residual gasses from the anesthetic they tell me.

I am surprised at how itchy my tummy is tho! I guess it means I am healing, I never had stitches! just steri strips..

anyway we are off on an exciting journey for the better part of our lives

    cheers

  5. Hey there pipedoc,

Firstly just let me say that I wont hold it against you because you ride a Harley!!! ( I ride a Yamaha cruiser).

I know what you are saying about people accepting the lapband news. I have found my husbands mates are far more supportive of my desision to be banded than any of my so called girlfriends...maybe that is a testosterone thing or maybe women that don't support me are just envious themselves.what ever the story I am being banded tomorrow morning and I will not be labeled as a cheat..just a middle aged woman who wants the next decade to be way better than the last 2.

  6. Hi Megsy!

I know exactly how you feel, my op is on Tuesday...only 3 more sleeps, I am feeling nervous too.

My Optifast is also going OK, I must admit that I did slip up while out the other day and had a small icecream, I have been preparing my body for several months now and have lost 10kg so I dont think one icecream will hure.

I am getting very tired of Soup though.

Good luck with your op, keep us informed as to how you are.

  7. Well Jackie,

I was exactly the same, in fact I even told my daughter (she had it 3 yrs ago) that I thought she was mad..now here I am with only a few days till I get my band. I am being done on Tuesday after a long 12 months wait for my private health to kick in.

It is a huge step but we each approach it in different ways.

I asked my daughter what was her honest opinion now that she is down to her goal weight...her answer said it all. she said if anything happened that her band had to come out she would step in front of a bus!!

    very powerful words for me.

it is not an easy desision to make and you have to be aware that it is a huge commitment on your part to do the right thing if you wish it to work.

I hope you feel a bit better about it now...scared Yes! nervous Yes! very excited YES!!!!

    I cant wait now.

  8. congratulations, I am sure it was a big relief to you, I have waited 12 for my health fund to kick in and now I am being banded on 20th October...

Its all go now, very exciting.

hope all goes well for you, i will be watching for an update around that time

  9. I am not yet banded, I have a miserably slow 4 weeks yet to wait. My hubby reckons I should be proud that I've taken my obesity by the horns and shout it out loud that I am getting the band..I'm afraid I am with the majority of you in saying that there is a lot of negativity around he lapband so I am keeping my mouth shut and only telling people I feel need to know.

  10. Hi!

I have only just put down the phone from my health insurer ( Navy Health)

They tell me that anything with a medicare item number is covered under my health, and most other insurers.

I have hospital and extras....it will not cover cosmetic surgery such as boob job but will cover removal of excess skin from weightloss.

Hope this makes you day better.

as for me!!! I still have 6 weeks to get my band so it is not an issue for me yet.:)
