    Dr. Aceves - August 15th

I'm home. It was wonderful to sleep in my own bed again. The surgery was successful and my recovery is going great! The only downside I am working on right now is the mental "fogginess". I know that it is because I am not up to proper levels of Protein intake but it's still irritating. Dr. Aceves was wonderful. Dr. Campos rocked. Actually ALL of the staff was incredible. Every single individual there was amazing. They were attentive and compassionate and informative. I only wish that I knew spanish. All I can say is this is completely different. You could have told be all day long that I would only be able to consume 2 ounces at a time and it still would have been hard to wrap my brain around. My husband was amazing. I am so glad that he went with me. We made several friends while we were there. But know that it has been a long journey between day 2 and today. Day 2 stunk. It is the worst I have felt in a long time if ever. But amazingly day 3 was dramatically better and yesterday was even better (except the long flights). Did I mention that I was glad to be back home?!?:lol0:
  7. Thanks, Susan. I am waiting for the prep work for surgery to start.

  8. Good luck today!

  9. AJW, Congratulations on getting home early. That's wonderful! I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly. I can only hope that you improve quickly. I'm flying out tomorrow to Dr. Aceves. Please keep us informed on how you are doing. I will do the same.
  10. My husband and I leave tomorrow morning to fly to San Diego and then ride with Ernesto to Mexicali. I am so nervous/excited. I am ready to get this finished so I can DESTROY some of the strongholds that I let food have on me. This pre-op diet of very few carbs has forced me to address a couple of issues already. I have 3 kids so we keep a variety of snack food in the house (most of which is carb rich). Man, I can't count the number of times I just walked into the kitchen through habbit or boredom and opened the cabinets or checked the refridgerator. My pre-op testing is tomorrow and surgeryon Saturday! This is the begining of the best of my life...

    Some Aceves Questions

Okay. I have a friend at home that has recently had the lap-band placed and the 10lbs for 2 weeks was what she was told. But every Dr. is slightly different. I would (and will) do what ever Dr. Aceves tells me to do. If Dr. Aceves says 15lbs. for 6 weeks, alright. Although it will prove to be more challenging since my 2 year old loves to play. Oh well...long term benefits. Thanks for the correction VA.

    Some Aceves Questions

You are not supposed to lift anything over 10lbs. for the first two weeks. You will have to sit down to hold your child if he/she weighs over 10 lbs. I know that this will be VERY difficult but the risks of complication far outweigh the short term sacrifices. You can do all of the snuggling in bed and on the couch that your heart desires!
  13. Ryansgirl, I had some jitters about telling my PCP as well. Try your best to calm your fears. There is really nothing that he can do other than to tell you that he has some concerns about what you are doing. He can't stop you, he can't disown you, basically all he can and should do is discuss his concerns and remind you that it is your decision. (And that is just what my Dr. did.) Here are some words of advice... Remember that it is not an argument, don't gear up a "defense" in your mind. You will be wasting your emotional energy for nothing. Also, you mentioned that your insurance would not cover this procedure. I am in the same situation. This gives you an advantage in the sense that you don't need a referral or permission from him. So don't worry so much about getting his seal of approval. At this point I wouldn't even worry about requesting the 3 month post op tests. Deal with that later. You are going to be okay. Chin up and relax.

    Introduction

Carmella, Yes! You will definitely see me there. In fact, I believe you will be having your pre-op work done the day after my surgery. And I will be leaving the day after your surgery. (I will come and check on you.) The countdown has definitely begun! :clap2: Is anyone coming with you?

    Introduction

Hello Sleevetalkers, I am scheduled to be sleeved on August 15th by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I am soooo excited (along with all of the other emotions that accompany such a lifechanging event). My story sounds similar to some of the others I have read here and completely uninteresting compared to others; however, it is mine. I have been slightly robust for my age and build since I was 8yrs old. Just a little "soft" or chubby. And, ofcourse, I fluctuated frequently. I felt comfort in being labeled "curvy" and men vying my affection. Ah, but those days are but a distant memory for me. Now I am a mother of three beautiful children who make my life more sweet than I had ever imagined, and a wife to a handsome man who still finds me irresistable. I, on the other hand, have a difficult loving myself due to the 100+ pounds I have put on in the past decade. So, here I am. My isurance does not cover this procedure or any other type of WLS. I started researching the band and determined that the sleeve was more along the lines of what I wanted. Like I said before, I am excited, I am determined and I am scheduled! The flight arangements have been made, the tickets are paid, I am sending my deposit check out by the end of the week and gathering my post-op diet needs together.
