  1. Are you sure it is not Ketosis? This happens when you diet too much and the body starts to basically "eat itself" I lost weight too quickly and when I went to see dietitian after my band she said she could smell my breath ( which was quite embarrassing) and that I was in a state of ketosis and needed to eat more calories.

    Scale Obsession

Yes I am obsessed. Weighing myself first thing in the morning, straight after a pee always gets the lowest reading for me. I even have a app on my iphone to record my daily weight. (I told you I was obsessed) I'm not sure I want to get past it to be honest. I am at goal now so want to make sure I do no start to gain. Sometimes I do gain slightly after being naughty and eating some junk so will then make a extra effort for the next few days to get it back off.
  3. GUYS, I hope you all don't mind my jumping into this thread because I am not a 2010 bander. However, I was banded in September 2009 and am now 120lbs down. I just wanted to post this because I know you will alll be looking forward to losing the weight. It has changed my life and is the best thing I ever did. Good luck in the coming year. Stay strong and enjoy all the new confidence you will develop. This is the start of your new life:smile2::smile2:

    Port: Where's yours?

Mine is right in the front of my chest about a foot above my belly button. The only time it causes a problem is if I try to sleep on my stomach

    Carbonation!!!!!!!!!!!

I drink Soda and beer without any problems what-so-ever. My Hospital group in the UK say it is fine and the only thing I have to worry about is the calories in the beer. They have outcomes that equal the best 5 star hospitals in the USA and publish their results annually. I got banded a year ago today !!!! I have lost 120lbs and feel like I have died and been reborn. I am a completly different person. I still eat and drink everything I did before my operation but just in smaller quantities now. I will have a can of diet coke a day, and a few beers with the guys after work once a week. I used to drink beer each day. I suppose I may be lucky and drinking soda may hurt some bandsters but this myth about stretching the band is just that in my opinion..... A myth.
  6. I now limit myself to 1 diet coke a day and have not had any problems since getting banded in Sept 09. Same with the beer, I used to drink it everynight but now limit myself to 5-6 bottles of Buds once a week when out for a meal with the DW or game of pool with the guys from work. I know this will horrify a lot of banders who have been warned by thier doctors to avoid it. However, the team that carries out my surgery allows it, and told me that so long as I don't consume any more and limit the beer to once a week I will be fine. They are more worried about the calories in the beer than the gas and bubbles . I am not trying to get anyone to go against the advice of their doctors which I believe they should always follow, but I think that for me, missing out on these treats for the rest of my life would have been one sacrifice too far.
  7. This program caused a revolution when he did a version here in the UK. It had such a effect that the Prime Minister was forced to meet him at downing street to talk his ideas and demands through. It just grew and grew and politians from all political parties we forced to jump on board and back his demands. School meals were completely changed throughout the UK. Out went the high fat processed garbage and it came healthy meal replacments. Now there has since been a back-lash, some kids used to burger, pizza and fries refused to stay for meals and their reck-less parents blamed the schools for not providing what the kids want. Generally though it has been a great success. I hope it has the same effect in the US.
  8. Had my 4th fill on Thursday taking me to 6cl in a 10 cl band. I seem to have great restriction and can really notice the difference. I could only eat a small amount of food tonight and left most of the plate full of food. I had this restriction briefly 2 fills back but it disappeared after 2 days so I put it down to swelling. How long does it take to know if this restriction will be permanent? Thanks

    Where's your port?!

Mine is 1 inch above the xyphoid process right smack in the middle.
  10. Thanks for the replies. Well its day 3 now and I still have restriction and I am loving it. I am a 2 year weight loss program with my hospital and have regular monthly appointments booked for the next 18 months so any fine tuning can be made. Jachut- Its good to hear that your last fill and restriction has lasted 2 years. I hope to be at that stage by the end of my program. Thats to say, just maintaining my weight loss long term. Its really strange being full on so little food. I just cannot get used to it yet. I suppose it will take some time.
  11. It could be Gallbladder problem like a previous poster has mentioned. This is happened to me. I had pains like you described and a scan revealed gallstones and a damaged gallbladder. I have to have this removed next month. This is a common problem following lapband surgery. Like all these things, we will just be guessing in giving our opinion though and it will need a proper medical examination to get a correct diagnosis. As a side issue, I wouldn't dream of lecturing people from the states on politics, but I am just so glad here in the UK that I dont have to worry about having to pay for medical care and it is free at the point of delivery. I have been in and out of hospital so many times over the last year and worrying about paying for it on top of my illness would have been too much to bear. Hope everything works out fine for you.
  12. Mistake, big big mistake, hugh mistake, enormous mistake. Do not do it !!! You have been warned !!!!! Wipes tears from eyes, and posts thread :frown::frown:
  13. Thanks for sharing the video, you are a inspiration and so beautiful. Sometimes in life we have to make tough choices and it looks like you had to make one of the toughest in order to start the healing process. Well done and good luck.
  14. john47

    where did my energy go?

Yes, dont panic it is normal, your body is just healing. I just slept and slept the week following surgery and was worried I would not be able to go back to work the following week. It will soon wear off and your energy wil return. Well done for being so active and the walking, what you are doing will also help in the healing process as well as the weight loss. Good luck.
  15. Funnily enough, quitting smoking is what got me fat. I used to smoke 20-30 a day until 5 years ago and then quit. I gained about 1 and a half stone a year for the next 5 years. I used to have a cigarete instead of a meal and once they were gone the weight just seemed to creep up on me. That said, packing them in was one of the best things I ever did. I would be dead now if I still smoked like I did.
  16. My goal weight is a BMI of 25 just putting me into the "normal weight" category which for me is 205 lbs because I am 6ft 4 inches. I have about 20lbs to go and am looking forward to it. In a ideal world I would like to drop a further 15 -20 lbs to get into the middle of the category but at this stage I dont know if that is achievable.
  17. I expected the 5 little scars after the op, and hoped they would fade over the next few years. However, 4 months in and I still have 3 round red little scars above and below each of the 5 incision scars where the staples where. So each of my 5 scars now looks like this: . . . ---- . . . I have had general stitches for cuts in the past and they never left scaring. Any one else been left with this?

    Staple Scars

I know, I know, I agree with you. Its just that I still have this wild dream that when I lose all the weight I will end up 12 stone, without any loose skin, have a six pack, and will be walking across a beach in the South of France with woman throwing themselves at my feet. Unfortunatly the reality says this will not happen and that I should just be happy with loosing the weight and not worry about any scars :biggrin::biggrin:

    shrinking

My boobs are shrinking as well but I am soooooo happy :rolleyes2::thumbup::w00t:
  21. I never did liquids before or after surgery. Before I was on a low carb diet, and after straight on to mushies. I honestly do not think I could have coped with the liquid stage. It sounds like torture to me :eek::thumbdown:

    Help bypass or lapband

No problem, thats what makes these forums so good. We share our experiences and learn from them. We would never learn anything if we all agreed :w00t: . Well done. you have done great. I have tried loads of different diets and failed through lack of will power. Funnily enough, I seem to have loads now I have a band even though I have not got any restriction yet. however, I stand by my original opinion. me and you seem to have gained will-power we never had pre-band. A lot of people will not gain that will power and will require the band to do the work for them. If someone who does not gain the will-power after their band still grazes on Snacks they will fail. I know of a few people who have not lost any weight with the band because they still snack on "slider" foods. In my opinion the bypass would have been the better option for them. However, I have to say. Even though the band was the best choice for me as a "big-meal eater" I dont think I could have went for the by-pass. I just never liked the thought of the knife hacking my stomach away :tongue2::eek:

    Help bypass or lapband

To me the choice is a simple one: If you are a snacker, and "graze" on Snacks like ice cream, potato chips, sweets and the like throughout the day, go for a bypass because you will still be able to eat all the same amounts of junk food if you get banded because they will all slide through the band. If on the other hand you are a "big meal eater" like me who liked big portions of steak, chops chips etc and do not eat a lot of snacks then the band is the better option. This is just me opinion
  24. WOW -this is a mirror of my experience, I have lost 60lb since 9/15 and my doctor will not fill me despite it all being lost through shear will power without any restriction. He told me he thought I was developing a form of anorexia and had transfered all my pre-op obssesion with overeating onto a post op version of anorexia :wink2::eek::biggrin: I'm am eating big portions of fresh healthy food, I am still hungry and misarable because I have no restriction. I feel the whole thing has been a complete waste of time and I am stuck on *another* yo-you diet that I have tried and failed with so many times in the past.:wink2:
  25. Agree 100 %, I wish more doctors read the advice given by the collective voice of these support forums. They would then be better educated to impart that advice to some of their patients. I have found the advice to be priceless. I would not have known how to cope if the only knowledge I had was what my doctor had told me.
