    Hirsutism and Acne

Have any of you ladies had success with Spironolactone? What does it do? Is it worth getting a script for?
  2. Thanks to OP for posting this, I have PCOS as well.

    No restriction

I'm struggling with mushies also. I've reverted back to my grazing habits, which is destroying any progress I've made. I need to work harder.

    Mushies/bandster hell

Thanks everybody. I've just been logging everything I eat to keep me more honest. No more mashed potatoes for me!
  5. Hey guys! I was banded on the 17th, and have since graduated to the mushies food stage. I'm frustrated because although I can eat, I'm still not full. I can eat a cup to a cup and a half (or more:eek:) and I'm only two weeks out. I'm scared I'm going to slip or something. I guess I'm in bandster hell. I saw the photos of my band, and apparently, there was A LOT of space between my stomach and the band. What are some low cal mushies suggestions? I'm frustrated because I feel like I'm over indulging in calories, but I'm not full.

    Are co-workers going to notice?

I don't really plan on telling anyone. I was banded on 7/16, and its still a need to know sort of thing for me. My parents and younger sibling know, and so do my doctors. I don't think it's relevant to anyone else. If I get any questions, I'll just tell them I'm taking care better care of myself. Which is true, so I'm not lying. Although my aunt told me about a coworker who was banded and didn't tell anyone. Everyone thought she was dying of cancer, until someone asked if she was OK, and then she told them about the band.

    3 days post op & no #2?

I flip-flopped between constipation and diarrhea for the first two weeks of post op. I recommend the benefiber tubes that you can mix in with a drink. Mix it with crystal lite. You can't even taste it.

    Mushies/bandster hell

I didn't get a magic bullet, but I did buy something similar (a mini blender) and I bought a food processor. I've been blending up alot of tuna salad (tuna/chicken are my favorite foods). I think i might just have to eat a can of tuna for one meal, and soup for the other two, because its too easy for me to eat badly with alot of the mushies. I looove carbs, so mashed potatoes have been fun. I can't wait until I can do solids, and then get my first fill. I just want to skip ahead to the good part. :-)

    What made you do it.

@ kyotosong: I can totally relate, I have PCOS too. It sucks. As to why I did it, it was for a couple reasons: 1. I'm tired of sticking out like a sore thumb. I grew up overseas, and I was always taller (and wider than the local population). Now that I'm stateside, I want a chance to blend in. I want to be able to be in a crowd of people, and just not be particularly noticeable at all. I'm sick of being "the fat one". or "the big one". 2. The PCOS is still a big deal for me. I want these icky hormonal effects to go away!! 3. I want to get a non-creepy date. I'm sick of guys who are only interested in me because they couldn't find someone pretty. I know that what's inside counts the most, but who doesn't like a nice present to have pretty wrapping paper? So yeah, my main reason was really superficial, but I look at this as a great opportunity to get healthy. I'm going to work my butt off in exchange for a longer life.
  10. I had my lap band put on Friday, and as I type this I just finished eating a milkshake with a spoon, in hopes it woudn't irritate my stitches. Any tips for dealing with emotinal eating? What do you guys do to deal with it? Cause I don't want to waste all this pain on milkshakes. Thanks to everyone who posts.

    Emotional eating.

TY at reclaiming_ginny I think its because I tend to reward myself with food.(Good job on that promotion, you can eat somewhere nice.) But it gets to the point where I don't even do anything. (Ehh.... You didn't do anything *bad* today, have somthing to eat.) Its like every emotion: happy, sad, depresed, angry, I turn to food. Its frustrating. I need to find another crutch. like music.

    Banded Yesterday!

Hi everybody! I'm new (both to this website, and banding, I've had my band for 26 hours). I'm very excited for this new chapter in my life, and the lap-band is going to be the perfect tool help me get to my goal weight. I know I'm still going to have to work my butt off (pun intended), but I'm stoked. Also, I'm at home on the clear fluids diet, and am DYING for a protien shake (I'm hungry, the juce/crystal lite and popsicles aren't cutting it). Anyone know if its ok for me to have a pure protien shake yet? I'm tolerating liquids very well, no nausea or anything.

    Banded Yesterday!

@ sandiegokate, will try @mnorthpole I haven't gotten that feeling yet.

    Girdles, Cinchers or even spanx

@ OP I hope someone knows, because that was the last thing I thought about when I went under. I can't believe how superficial I am. I was at the most important moment of my life to date, and my only thought was "When can I wear spanx again, I want to look pretty!" :-)

    Emotional eating.

Thank you Kate! Will try the guided imagery.
  16. @ OP OMG! We got banded the same day! *hugs* Hang in there, I know what you're going though. The sugar free popsicles help alot though. I've been blending soups, and that's been going pretty well.

    Banded Yesterday!

@ sandiegokate Thanks! I can't wiat until I'm healed up/ or at least get to the mushies stage. I don't know what it is about the isopure. Mango peach tastes like watered down peaches and cream oatmeal (yuck), and strawberries & cream tasted amazing the first time, and I'm losing enthusiasim with each sip. I will try the juice tips.
  18. @sandiegokate, that sounds like a good idea! Will try soon!
  19. Hey, I was banded two days ago. Here's what I've had in the food & beverage department: low sugar apple juce, low sugar cranberry, popsicles (I thought they were sugar free, I was WRONG), sugar-free popsicles, diet iced tea, miso soup (love it!! buy some!!), crystal lite. Haven't had any problems with nausea, etc. For the multivitamin, my doctor mentioned centrum, centrum chewables, or even the flintstones chewable vitamins. For calcium, I think he may have mentioned viactive, but I'll have to check on that (I'll be giving him a call on monday). PS: Don't worry, the surgery isn't bad. I had my gallbladder removed, and its not nearly as bad as that. I'm not going to lie, you WILL want someone around to give you a hand for a little while (we'll see, its only been two days). The spot where the port is feels awful, and sleeping is a chore (my bed is low to the ground, and I'm a side sleeper).

Barium Swallow Test / Upper GI

I burped a whole bunch with the fizzy stuff. Drinking the barium chalk was icky, not as bad as some other stuff I've had to drink. I'd have to say though, the weirdest parts for me was when I bumped my head against the x-ray machine or when the doctor freaked out because the nurse failed to tell him I had piercings. It was funny to see a profesional have a WTF moment.

    Banded Yesterday!

@ thebandgirl: Thanks. I"m just trying to calm down, I accidently had a sip of flat fresca. There were a few bubbles, so I'm concerned. @ statont: I have had some trouble with isopure flavors. Do you know if it tastes better mixed with skim milk? (I'll road test it when I'm feeling better)

    Banded Yesterday!

@ thebandgirl: I found my aftercare instructions. I can my pure protien tomorrow...

Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet

I had to do a liquid lo-carb diet for a week, pre op. It was AWFUL (but totally worth it, because now I'm banded). The first day, I freaked out and smushed up 6 sliced of turkey bacon and ate them straight out of the package. I also had one cherrio. Because of my initial slip ups, for the remaning days, I went hardcore lo-carb: I tried to get as close to 0 grams of carbs as I could, but the lowest I got was 30-ish. I was starving. I think I seriously am failing on the protien part, Initially, I couldn't find a shake I liked, but I found one (pure protien, chocolate. Mhhmm...) the night before I got banded. Hopefully, I can have one soon.
