  1. I had my band removed a week ago. It had slipped and I had a ventral hernia, both of which were causing me a lot of pain. My insurance has changed from my original surgery and doesn't cover any baratric care so I decided to have it taken out. The thing is, I'm hungry like I haven't been for over a year and a half, I don't have restriction of any kind and I don't have any dietary limitations. My family is trying to be supportive but it is coming off nagging and as though they expect me to fail. I am scared and wish I had my band. Take care of yourselves and be good to your bands...wish me luck.
  2. In the past when I was sick I had to have fluid removed from my band. It's a bit gross, but if you have sinus drainage, it goes right to your pouch and can be difficult to get from the pouch to the stomach. When I went in and talked to the PA who does fills at my doc's he told me he does a lot of unfills on bandsters when they have colds for this reason. I would suggest getting a bit of an unfill if you have any saline in your band. Be careful what you eat. Good luck.
  3. Hi there, I just had a total unfill today. I was having a lot of pain and vomitting. I just moved to the area I am in and did not have a lap band doc so I went to my PCP. He was concerned because as he palpated my upper abdomen I had pain so he ordered a CT scan. The scan showed a hernia and a slipped band; that was yesterday. The PCP contaced a lap band doc in town and got me into see her this morning. She did an unfill and then a swallow study. she was able to see the slippage right then and showed me. i have to have a revision. I hope you have luck and I hope the unfill works for you. Were you having the same symptoms in November? If not, it may be a good idea to do another swallow study? Take care. Angie

new in Eugene, need a doc

I guess there aren't many people with the band that live in Eugene who check this website... I saw my PCP this morning, having a CT scan in an hour. Would still like any suggestions for good lap band docs in the Eugene Oregon area if anyone has any.
  5. Hi Bandsters, I just moved to the Eugene area. I am having some stomach issues, a lot of pain whenever I eat anything (even a few bites) and am getting worried since it has been going on for a week now. Anyway, I wondered if anyone had recommendations for good docs in this area. I appreciate the help, thanks in advance. Angie

    Does it count?

Agreed, it counts! I would count it (and buy it) if I could get it over my hips, doesn't have to zip IMHO!!

what do you do for exercise?

I do Pilates and I have just started the couch to 5k program (which I have done in the past, it is a good program but I got too heavy to continue on it)
  8. where can you get bio oil?

    first stuck episode?

I have gotten stuck hours after eating, as a matter of fact that is usually how it happens for me. I can feel my stomach squirming around trying to get the offending food down. My stuck usually lasts for about one hour. Sometimes it is painful, but I can continue with my routine, but other times it is debilitating and all I can do is sweat, cuss and hope for the best!
  10. many people have told me this is gross, BUT... I like cottage cheese with hummus on it. I think I had about 1/4 cup at a meal initially.
  11. vodka martinis of almost any kind, but especially lemon drops and as of last night a new favorite...chocolate martini (sounds gross, but is delicious). the chocolate is the least diet friendly, the one i had contained cream.

How long can you stay "stuck"?

I have been stuck quite a few times. My band is fickle; one day I can eat something and the next I can't. I have had dinner at a regular dinner hour (6 or 7) and been fine until I woke up at 1 a.m. due to pain from being stuck. After being stuck, your stomach swells and that makes it harder for things to go down. My doc says to go on liquids for 2 days after getting stuck to allow the swelling to go down. Good luck. If it doesn't get better soon, just call your doc; he may have some suggestions for you.
  13. My doc has said that it takes about 3 days for the swelling to go down after a fill (I am sure this varies person to person). If I ever have restricion which limits my ability to eat and especially drink for more than 3 days, my doc says I am too full and need an unfill. You don't want to get dehydrated! For me, restriction is feeling full after eating 1/2 c of food and staying full for half of the day. Restriction does not mean I am limited in my ability to drink water; with that said, I don't guzzle or I do get sick. Good luck!
  14. Hey! I'm not obese anymore! I went from morbidly obese to obese and now I am overweight! Next is "normal" OMG OMG OMG!! I was bummed because I will not meet my original goal, but I am better able to deal with that because of the positive changes I have seen. :w00t:
  15. I felt pretty rotten for a couple of days. Lots of back and shoulder (both sides) pain. I did not want to drink anything, but I did (as should you). You shouldn't worry about weight loss at the start of your journey. You should focus on following doctor directions to allow your body to heal. If you feel like your symptoms are not normal or are frightening you, call your doctor's office as they have heard everything and can your best resource. Congrats on your surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery.

    My weight loss has slowed:(

I am having the same issue, but mine has a bit to do with my love of chocolate I am afraid to say. I have boosted my workouts, but I eat chocolate EVERY day. I am working on this. I agree with a previous poster who said mix up your work out. Also if you have a very regular diet you should change that up a bit too. Good luck!

Help! My pants are too big!

My doctor's office has occasional clothing swaps. Ask your doc and if not perhaps you could ask them to hold one? Congratulations on your weight loss!

    Zumba!

My advice is no different from the other posters, just reinforcement. I was cleared for all activities 4 weeks post op, but all docs are different so ask at your next appt. Zumba IS great!!

    Hospital Stay

I posted earlier that you will want a change of clothes, someone else posted you will want baggy clothes. FOR SURE baggy! Also, just incase you have to stop somewhere on the way home, take a dark colored shirt because you won't want to wear a bra... I think the only thing I used while I was in the hospital which was my own was my phone. Also, I sleep on my side and found out the hard way that one of my incisions is on the left side. OUCH!! The hospital gave me steak and veggie soup for dinner and oatmeal for breakfast even though I told them I didn't think I was supposed to have it, so heads up regarding that. Wishing you luck, minimal pain, a speedy recovery and a wonderful journey to a healthier you! Angie

    Hospital Stay

a clean change of clothes for the day you leave. I took a book, but the anesthesia messed with my eyes so much I couldn't read it. I slept most of the time.
  21. Catherine, There is nothing obnoxious about that picture, you look FABULOUS! Congratulations! Jessica, I only PB and/or slime when I eat too fast. Like Catherine, I know when the PB is coming and have plenty of time to get to a restroom. I have some control over it as far as being able to "hold it" for a little bit, unlike puking. Angie

    Acid Reflux

Same thing happened with me. I went in and had a bit of an unfill and I no longer have the reflux!
  23. For me it is scrambled eggs (all other types are ok), bread (including soft shell tortillas) and the worst of all is steak. I have tried filet mignon and prime rib, the steak gets stuck real good so I am up in the middle of the night sweating bullets praying for it to either come up or go down. Right now I don't have good restriction, but when I do I would add french fries and mashed potatoes (but baked are ok). And sometimes fruit such as blueberries and grapes also. Great question, I was thinking of asking it too!
  24. For about 4 days I had horrible pain on my rt side and my mid back. The first night the pain woke me up and I initially thought something was stuck. It was a different pain though. I writhed in pain for 2 hours before I called my doc. I told him that the pain was not the same as a "stuck" pain and it was taking my breath away. He told me to take an ibuprofen and if the pain didn't go away in 2 hours to go to the ER. The pain eased enough that I fell asleep. The next 3 nights were the same. I hate going to the doc, I know I should but, anyway. I looked some stuff up and decided it may have been my gall bladder. I didn't eat much for a couple of days and the hunger drove me to look up info about how to eat to avoid gall bladder pain. I ate an avocado and drank a couple of cups of organic apple juice. Since then I have had no pain. I guess I am just curious to hear about other people's experiences and hear if anyone has advice aside from "go see your doctor." Thanks!

    Another gall bladder question

Thank you Chicalynn. I have been pain free for a few days now. If it happens again I will see my doc. I do appreciate your response and info. I am glad to hear you are symptom free now! Angie
