  1. I read MANY horror stories on this website about fills. I know each of us has our own experience, but I just wanted to say that my fill went fine, a little poke and it was over. I needed a fill, I was starting to feel hungry all day long and was eating more than I felt I should be. I only lost 1 pound once I started mushies which is disappointing. We will see if this helps. I am on liquids for today and tomorrow and then mushies again for two days. Good luck with everything!
  2. Ritalou - I just had my fill today. I asked my surgeon how many cc's my band held and he said, "um, let me check" and flipped through my chart...10 cc's, but his need to check makes me think it is not standard. I then asked him how many cc's of saline he put in, he put in 4.

    Fill Nightmare!

Had my fill today, it went fine. He had me stand up and I thought he was just going to look. Next thing I know he is wiping off a spot with alcohol and a little poke; then I felt restriction (felt like a lump in my throat) and then all done! It is true that this is a very individual experience. I wish everyone good fills!

  6. artificial sweetners make me really ill, I explained this to my surgeon and he told me regular jello & pudding was ok. Did you explain to your doc about the migraines? I hope you feel better soon.

    New Look and Jealousy

I have been warned by some of my friends that this will probably happen at some point (I have only been banded 1 month). I am sorry it happened to you, it sounds very hurtful. I guess we will all find out who our "real" friends are. Best of luck to you and congratulations on your success, you are doing fabulous!
  9. I wasn't hungry at first either, but I sipped water all day long and I mixed up a protein shake that equalled 90 grams of protein (that's what my surgeon requires) and drank on that throughout the day (though I didin't usually get all 90 grams down). I was able to eat pudding right after surgery also, they told me to add milk to it to "water" it down. Getting your protein is important as it helps with healing. Good luck, I know it is hard but it's important.

    Fill Nightmare!

now i'm scared...i go in on wednesday for my first fill. i was under the impression it was just a little poke...shoot.:cool2:
  12. I felt the same way...I have been on mushies for almost 3 weeks now. I usually eat about 1/2 cup at a time and I try to go for high protein items first. When I first started mushies I would look at the clock and make sure it was taking me about 20-30 minutes to eat. I also use toddler utensils when I am eating something that I REALLY like so I don't take too big of bites. I also try to drink water/crystal light whenever I am not eating so that I have a better chance of staying hydrated. Good luck to you!
  13. For those banded on or around 6/30, when are you scheduled for your first fill? Just curious. I am scheduled 7/29.
  14. I did the same thing with crab legs...was pretty sore on and off last night and still a bit this morning. I thought since I could have tuna I could have crab, not so I guess. I hope you feel better soon.
  15. I think a lot of this difference of weight loss depends on your start weight. I was banded on 6/30/09, haven't weighed recently, but at my 1 wk post op check up I had lost 12 lbs. I was disappointed at first, but after reflecting (with help from my mom) I think that is great! Just go with it, keep following your prescribed diet and remember your healing and that is the MOST important thing for us right now. Good luck to you though!

    meal sizes

1/2 cup is 4 oz, 3/4 is 6 oz. According to all my papers I am allowed 1/2-3/4 cup so I wouldn't worry too much either as long as you felt ok.

About to go into surgery- Any sugguestion or tips?

Congrats! I was banded just under 2 weeks ago. I can share some of what I experienced, but it is different person-to-person. My insurance required me to stay the night in the hospital. At first I was upset, but my incisions were pretty sore and having the hospital bed to get into and out of was nice as I had a lot of pain. My cousin had the surgery as well and she had no pain, she went back to work the next day. The gas they inflate your abdomen with stays around for awhile. My shoulder and chest were very painful because of the gas, but no longer having issues with it (walking provided me the most relief from this pain). I had family help me out...best decision ever! Get a protein powder that you like (relatively speaking!) because you will be taking in a lot of it! Don't be afraid to take pain meds if you need them. Get lots of rest after surgery, your body will need it. Best of luck to you!

    Banding on July 1

Jay Robb protein powder is pretty good (for protein powder). I have only tried the vanilla, but it is pretty good. I mixed it with lite chocolate soy milk...

    Gas, 2nd thoughts, advice

I was banded just under 2 weeks ago. I had the same shoulder pain, it was horrible! I agree about taking your gas-x and sipping your liquids slowly. The other thing that really helped me was to walk, it helped me more than the gas-x.
