  4. Hello all, This is a disappointing day. I have been preparing for banding on my own by cutting out all of my diet pepsi (almost one month without drinking pop. I have also cut down on fast food and am looking for as much info on lap banding as possible. I did not see how I could be denied... I was denied because it was determined that other wt loss methods may be better for me. This was determined at my psych consult. I think this was because I replied that I was a stress eater and I had a stressful job. The psychologist saw me no more than 15 minutes! I can't believe this. I currently weigh about 340lbs. I don't feel like I can do this on my own and I need more help then wt watchers can offer me. Please someone give me some good news. I will appeal this but I was hoping that someone out there has had a similair story and was approved?

    Denied by HAP

This started out as a very good day. I got my letter from HAP today regarding my surgery. I really expected to be approved but my letter stated that I was denied because other weight loss methods may be better for me... I think this was perhaps due to me confirming I was a stress eater at my psych consult. Has anyone else had this problem? Please tell me there was a happy ending?:frown:

    Just a life lesson

On Dr Phil today they took a women (some actual beauty queen) and dressed her up to appear to be 300 lbs. She looked pretty natural and of course everywhere she went she got stares. She did not like "fat" people and thought that they were "lazy and arrogant for impeding on other peoples space." It made me think of myself and how she and others might see me. I honestly don't notice people staring at me due to my wt. Is it because I am confident in myself and take the world by the horns? No, I still worry about seating when I go out to the movies or a restaurant. I am not comfortable or confident with my appearance. I wondered how others felt? Do you really feel people staring and judging you?

    To De-Lean

Going for my psychology consult on Monday. About time! It has taken so long just to get this far. Hope it goes well and the process starts moving after that. At least I would like to meet my surgeon soon. Can't wait to get moving!!!!

    To De-Lean

Was a bit of a blue day when I wrote that last post. Thank you for writing Arb. I do know what you mean. I will ride again too!
  11. Drtoliver, I really like what you wrote. It is so true that we are all looking at making new relationships with our old friend food. This is so necessary, this new relationship, but I will miss this friend. I will miss that big bowl of ice cream in front of the TV. I will miss turning to food when I am upset. It will be hard to replace these habits with new ones that are healthier for me. Maybe you are mourning the death of your old life, your old habits, to be "born again" in your new life. A phoenix out of the ashes!
  12. Hey there Kakki. Why don't you read the "Let's Celebrate" thread? Take a look at what good things you have waiting for you. Keep your head up and aim for the prize. We will be your cheerleaders but until I lose wt I am NOT wearing that little skirt. Good luck!

    Lets Celebrate !!!!!

What a great thread. I am not banded yet and have not even met my surgeon but reading all of your successes makes me feel like I can do this too! I want new pants! I want my shirts to be too big and show too much cleavage! Hell, I want to wear tub tops and mini skirts and thigh high boots with big 5 inch heels. Well, maybe just some new jeans in a smaller size....thank you everyone. I will be keeping up with your successes and adding some of my own soon. De-Lean

I too did a lot of research and was more knowledgeable about bypass at first. I know that there are a lot more side effects with bypass and I didn't want to deal with them. I also am now at an age, thank god, that I am willing to have a slower wt loss in order to reach my goal. I know I need help to be successful but I also have a lot of life to live and I felt (for me only) I did not want to risk my health to that extent. Other reasons I decided on the band, dumping does not sound fun and I don't want to be worrying about my iron and malabsorbsion down the road. These are some of the things that helped me make this difficult decision. Best of luck making yours!
  15. The road to health can be frustrating and full of little road blocks that seem to be there just to hang you up. When I asked about the band I did have to show that I had tried at least 2 years of medically supervised wt loss before my doc and insurance would consider referring me.
