  1. I am 2 days away from my band journey to win my battle too. To read your post is probably just what I needed more than anything. It edifies the hope and enthusiasim that I have in my heart for this surgery, and helps to erase all the stories of failure that those wellmeaning people constantly share. God Bless you atgoalgirl, you have spoken powerful words that will encourage many. Thank You!

    Sex before and after Lapband

This could be a really revealing thread  This begs the question...does the sexual drive of a obese person deminish because of lack of energy, OR does it simply deminish because of being obese and we are trying to justify it with excuses,i.e. no energy?

    Super Secret

It is totally your decision as to whom you tell and who you chose not to tell, and your responsiblity to allow people to be stupid. They many times do not understand the strife of being overweight, and the yo-yoing weight cycles you have gone through all your life. Out of ignorance they often will say"You're not that big". or "Weight Watchers worked for this girl at my job and she was bigger than you.", and the one I LOVE is "I would NEVER have that surgery". Yeah right, lets see someday, "would never have"... probably. One the other hand, I have told everyone who would listen, but I guess I believed wholeheartly that this surgery is what I need, and that when stupid statements were thrown at me (and most surprisingly. most of those were by family and close friends as opposed to casual aquaintances) I blew them off. To my way of thinking, the more peole that know, the more accountability I will have, and that is what I personally need. Not to mention, by letting eveyone know, I have found, or shall I say uncovered many fellow wls sisters and brothers who like you stay mum. But they know I am a "safe person" and reveal all their secrets and helpful hints to me. Again, neither is right or wrong, just what you feel in your heart is right or wrong. But you probably should share the news with someone you trust, for support and to share as a medical history reason. Good luck with your upcoming surgery, and good luck with your decision.

    Any November 2009 Bandsters??

So-E, My surgery is the 24th so I am there with you with the pre-op diet, and I have noticed being a bit weaker both in spirit and physically. I couldn't open a jar today, and when my husband said something to me today that I would have normally let him have it for, I just sneered and walked out of the room. Just too much to think about and to much yet to do, then top it off with the darned diet...Well it's only a few more days. We are women hear us roar!!!! Right?? Hang in there girlfriend, I know we are gonna make it!

    Would you....

I sooooo agree with the other bandsters, abolutely check out the close to home surgeon, even the call to his office could be telling, as his staff's conversation with you might let you know if you want to procede further. I'm sure if they have earned the title of " center of excellence" the surgeon and his staff are perfect, but better to check the facts first. Another consideration would be that by switching surgeons, it most likely will delay your surgery, perhaps just by a week or two, or maybe even longer. I know my surgeon is booked all the way through the holidays, and with that being said, that leads you into a new insurance year...begins all the deductibles etc... Maybe this new surgeon would be willing to take you on for fills, and as far as I know support groups are pretty much open to any bandster ( at least ours are). You have a lot to consider, and a short time to do it...I would get to it today! Call the new surgeon and get in to see him ASAP.
  10. I woke up this morning with a swollen throat, and I am sooo trying not to get ill because of having my surgery Nov 24th. I go to college, where my classes at times are almost 1/3 empty due to the flu:sad:, so I practice ( as well as I can) hand washing, hand sanitizing, and avoiding as much as I can those who are obviously ill. With that all said, I would never have the shot for H1N1, I have and don't plan to ever allow any vaccine for any flu to enter my body. That is just my personal choice, but I wonder if I am alone.

    Any November 2009 Bandsters??

~Gentle hugs being sent~ Thanks CIN, your advice has been heeded, I have my chapstick, pillow, and saggy baggy stretchies all ready to go into my bag.:scared2: So glad to see you may be in a bit of discomfort yet still have your humor. Humor will take you a looooong way, and it helps comfort those of us who have yet to have the surgery. Thanks for sharing it all!
  15. Hey A, I too will be going on the 24th. We will be official bandsters then, and I am so excited! I too have some fears, but hey, I get the jitters when I have to go to the dentist, so I guess some fear is to be expected. There is plenty of info of what to expect here at LBT, but be sure to check out; http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/any-november-2009-bandsters-102014/ Be sure to read all the posts on that thread, as there is plenty of recent posts by newborn bandsters and what they are and have experienced. Be sure to join in and be part of us November 09 Knockouts! Good luck, and my thoughts will be with you, that is until Tuesday, then my thoughts will be about me:scared2:(total fear)

    Lost Too Much Weight

Ok, ok, take a deeeeeep breath, now exhale..... 1st, yes, I had a 3 1/2 hr class, seminar, whatever pre-surgery class. It was looooong, but, it was very informative and I am glad that I had that info available to me. Second, do not do anything different as far as what is normally what you eat. When your surgeon has a exact date for you he will put you on a pre-surgery diet, that is the diet that is intended to do the liver shrinking. Go ahead and enjoy your thanksgiving. Heaven knows you have already lost enough to more than qualify. Every doctor is different with their pre-surgery diet plan, but generally all that is explained to you when you go to those classes. You are fine, perfectly fine. I am disappointed that we won't be having surgery around the same time, but hey, I can let ya know what you are in for when you are ready!

    Sippy Cup?

I bought tupperware "sippy cup" lids and then special ordered the 16 ounce bell tumblers ( they are discontinued now, but the other sizes are still available) and will be using those. They, on my mind anyway are adult versions of sippy cups that I thought better than the ones at the store with bunnies and bears!

    Any November 2009 Bandsters??

Hi Jeni, I'm on day 8 and actually doing well on the preop diet. I haven't cheated except Sunday when I wanted to finish a container of cheese and had 1 extra ounce of my protein serving ( I'm only allowed 4oz.- 1 meal a day) and last night I again had a bit more than 1/2 cup of butter beans( only allowed 1/2 of veggies) left over, and again I finished those up as well, but that is all, and really probablay not worth mentioning except I am to much of a "by the book" person at times. However, honestly the thought of getting into surgery and having my surgeon open me up and finding an enlarged fatty liver, then closing me up and sending me home without a band is the absolute most frightening thought to me!:w00t: Soooooo, onward without cheating on my pre-op diet!
  24. Sooo glad to hear you are doing well. There are so many posts here that scare the bejeepers out of me claiming such pain and agony after surgery, by heart and mind loves to wrap themselfs around good reports like yours. My surgery is a week away, and the fear factor is really creeping in, not about the surgery itself so much, but about the after effects. I don't plan on having the shot as I stated earlier (just my choice), but please be aware, many of my fellow students (not all) at college that got the shot did develop flu like symptoms, so be sure your tummy can handle a few coughs or two. Continued good health with this journey, and I sincerely hope you continue on your new lifes path with the greatest of success!
  25. Hey Moxi, Calling Ms. Moxi, where are you? How are you, how did things go? Come back, come back wherever you are. We want to hear how things went, and if you fought off the bad flu bugs for surgery. :w00t:
