  1. My surgery is July 1st and I am 4 days into the pre-op diet. It is not as bad as I thought (although I would have to talk myself out of stabbing a birtch for a tater tot). The worst part is the no caffeine, I am a plain iced tea girl. I am so lethargic. Any ideas what I can do or do I just power through?

  2. I am new to this and have made it through my 6 months, had my EGD and am set for July 1st. Normally when I would go to a doctors office I would feel uncomfortable and like I was being judged. This is the second time in my entire life I felt like a person who was respected and not just a number. I am excited for this life change and all the good as well as the work that will come with it. Dr. D is amazing makes me feel safe and sure of my decision.

  3. I have a family member who had gastric bypass and she had a ton of excess skin on her arms, belly and legs. She had Tummy Tuck but not her arms or legs done. Insurance would not pay for it and this was some 15 years ago. I know I will lose slower however, I am very big and been so my entire life. Can any of you tell me if my skin, I know there Will be some; will be as bad as hers? Also is there any thing I can do to try and help it firm up as I lose the weight?

    Thanks:wink2:

  4. Got the ball rolling. I had my surgical consult. Finished the 6 month diet and have pre-approval. Now just need official approval and to see dietitian, then we will set a date. I am excited and freaked out at the same time. I know the pre-op diet will suck, but wow for the ability to get healthy I says bring it on! Lol I am a little impatient but I figure I have been fat for 36 years I can wait a few more months.

  5. I am soooo excited and freaked out all at the same time. I have been looking into lap-band®® for about 5 years and things have finally come together for me to start the process. With all my health issues I hope to not have trouble with insurance. My consult is Friday morning! Thanks to all of you for sharing it has been a great learning tool and comfort for me to know I am not alone in this journey!

  6. I would love to hear how it goes for you. I am in the same spot with insurance and hoping for them to give it a "go". I have been researching lap-band® for years and just now have coverage of any type. If I am turned down then I guess I will go back on the to-yo train. I want to be healthy and comfortable in my own body, but I also want to be a Momma, my clock is ticking super loud. I am 36 will be 37 end of May. Well anyways its nice to know I'm not alone. Good luck I will send out good mojo for you. :)

  7. Hello, I have been reading all the great things you have written and I feel a bit less nervous. Do you have any advice as far as what I could do to get the process in higher gear. Also, what can I expect on Friday.

I am Holly a 36 (soon to be 37) year old female. I weighed 315 at my highest. Right now I am down to 273 thanks to phentermine. I can not live on it tho and have hit a stopping point in losing weight. I have PCOS and hope to regulate my ovulation and be a Healthy Momma some time in the next couple years. I have an incredible, loving and supportive partner who will be with me through the entire process. Till I am old and grey even.

Thanks for the help, you gave with your posts.

  8. I am 36 will be 37 end of May. I was told I would never get preggers and 8 years ago I did. Lost the baby (and my mind). Now I am doing great but that clock is soo loud with its ticking. I see doc on the 26th for lap-band consult, graduate May 14th with an associates in elementary ed. and start ASU in the fall. I want a baby so bad it hurts. I want the band to be healthy for me but I also hope to have a baby. The first pregnancy was after a 90 pound weight lose doing the Atkins diet. I gained it all back and some. My highest weight thus far has been 315, and I am down to 280 due to changing the way I cook and phentermine. It has been 9 months, had to do the phentermine for my insurance to be able to consult with the surgeon. You all give me hope, now

let's just pray age is not going to hold me back. I am meant to be a Momma and being adopted want to share being preggers with my Momma!

  9. Hi my BMI is 61.5, I am 5 foot tall and weigh 315 pounds I am going to my family Doc on tue to inform him of the fact that I want to have the lap band. My Ins. will pay if it is medically necessary. Is it different for bigger BMI's? Now I am nervouse. I want to have children in the future and that is why I choose LB over GB. I like that it is flexible and can be loosened so my baby gets what s/he will need when my belly is growing from something other then ice cream and cheese burgers.

  10. Seeing family Doc Tue. to start the ball rolling. I know I can get lap-band I have a 61.5 BMI! My Ins. (I called last week) will pay if Doc deems it medically necessary. Do you have any advice that may push this along. Information I may need to help it go faster, like a list of diets I have tried (and failed). Doc knows my medical issues. I have decided I want this and I want it now! I need to save my own life and this is the first step! :(

  11. Hiya. My name is Holly and I am meeting with my family Doc. on Tuesday to tell him I want to have the lap-band. I spoke to my Ins. Company and they say if my Doc says I need they pay. I know there will be hoops but here is the deal. I am 36 years old and weight 315 lbs (143kg), my BMI is 61.5 and I have been hovering between 295 and 315 for about 7 years. I have tried many of the book diets and obviously I just yo-yo'd. I also have sleep apnea, female issues, sugar issues, high blood pressure and serious joint pain, not to mention the inability to breathe if I have to move my body for more then 5 minutes! I know I need I am however worried about all the weight loss before hand. I can't loose weight thats why I need the surgery!!! I will do it if I need to I want a baby so bad this may be my only chance! I cant be a Mom (even if I adopted) being this overweight and unhealthy!
